Are you a fastfood junkie or do you prefer to home-cooked meals?

Although I personally prefer home-cooked meals my job and my lifestyle has somehow gotten me into the fastfood habit, as I don't really have time to cook for myself. I know fastfood is not as healthy as the meals we cook at home. Most of them have double the fat, sugar, sodium content of a home-cooked meal. What about you, are you a fastfood junkie or a healthy home-cooked meal fan? Share your thoughts.

Balancing is the key, my friend. I don't want to deprive myself of fastfood flavor as well, but at the same time, I also try to make sure my body gets some proper nutrients.

I prefer healthy home cooked meals. Sometimes we have to eat out but we try not to do it often. I love to cook and I'm home most of the time. I clean houses a couple days a week but I try to cook even on the days that I work. My husband loves potato salad that is homeade so I made him some today and sent him a text telling him that I made him a prize for dinner. lol

I love fast food restaurants like Wendy's or Taco Bell but I rather eat home cooked meals because they are healthy for you and you know whats in the food. I will occasionally treat myself to fastfood but I don't make a habit of it because it will put the pounds on you before you know it. It will catch up to you faster then you know it and then you will feel bad about the weight gain so for me its not worth it.

The weight gain part of it makes me rethink about my fastfood habit. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I guess I will just look at fastfood as a last resort.

I do not eat fast food very often. I prefer my meals to be cooked at home. Mostly because this is a lot healthier than fast food. I can put the amount of salt I want in the dish! I also try to cook more fresh food and less packaged foods. IF we only cook prepackaged foods, we are not being much more healthy than fast foods and restaurants anyway!
• Philippines
21 Nov 10
That's a very good point there, my friend. You're right, sometimes what we cook at home are still processed foods anyway, so it doesn't make a lot of difference. Prepackaged food may even contain more preservatives and carcinogenic stuff.

Yep, someone gave me some food not long ago. I so don't want to throw it out as that seems wasteful, but I don't want to eat it either! I am trying to learn to cook better meals myself.

I prefer home cooked meals rather than fast food meals. Fast food meals can boost up your cholesterol count and can give you a big belly. Besides, it's good to know some recipe to cook.

In a way, I prefer fastfood to home=cooked meals. Home-cooked meals are pretty staple and standard. Fastfood meals tends to be more tasty though not too healthy. So when I take fastfood, I tend to have some discipline. However, with homecook meals, there is a tendency to overeat. Furthermore, homecook meals need not be considered healthy either.

Thanks for a very honest answer, my friend. I agree that home-cooked meals are not necessarily healthy, but I guess the thing with it is that if we we want to eat healthy, we can actually do it. As with fastfood, I guess we'll just have to put our faith on the people preparing it and how it is prepared.

i'm definitely a home cooked meal person. i love to cook whenever i'm at home. on working days, i have no choice but to eat outside. on weekends, i'll cook up a storm and make up for all my nutritional needs. i don't like fast food at all. even when i eat out, i try as hard as possible to avoid fast food. it's not tasty, and not nutritional at all.

I wasvcery diligent as I am a diabetic and worked hard to keep my blood sugar under control. and now here in Gold Crest I am having a hard time keeping my blood sugar under control, They feed us too many carbs and not enough proteins.I will have a hamburger once in a long while.

When i was young i always loved the home cooked food that i had. As i started to get older and wasn't always at home i often ate a lot of takeaways. Even when going to the pub, at the end of the night i loved going to the takeaway and getting plenty to eat. Now that i am a single dad i don't get to go out often and i always cook for my son so it is rare that i now eat takeaways. I do love takeaways and im not bothered what the fat content or anything like that is in the food, but im setting a good example to my son so thanks to him i now hardly eat any junk food, but i do find it delicious.

Oh yeah, and if your son sinks his teeth on junkfood, I guess it would be hard to peel him away from it. Junk food is very addictive, I must say. I started eating it when I was little, and until now I am still struggling to get rid of the habit, even if I am well aware of its detrimental effects to my health. I salute you for setting a healthy example to your kid. Cheerio!

I am definitely a fast food junkie. I do enjoy home cooked meals but I rarely get them. I myself hate cooking. Fast food is easy and there's virtually no waiting for you food. Plus it tastes great. I know it's not the healthiest, but I'm young and I can afford it now. Plus I exercise nearly every day. I do desperately need more vegetables and that is one thing fast food does not offer.

Exercising is a good way to shed those unwanted fats, but I guess there's nothing like eating healthy. I don't exercise myself and I eat junk. I'm in big trouble. Sigh*

I was once a fast food junkie like you. And i think we have same reason - work, right? When i was still an employee few years ago i really don't have much time cooking food for myself so the fastest way to please my tummy, FAST FOOD. Yeah i agree as well that foods in Fast Food area aren't that healthy. But i really don't have a choice until i became a businessman. Now that i own my business, i have the time of my life. Name it, sleeping, drinking, watching TV, movies, etc. And of course eating healthy. I think i just eat out maybe 2-3 times a week, mostly when i watch movies. I guess i had a healthier body now that i cook fresh and healthy foods. Biggest advantage in home-cooked foods is you know the content of the food you are eating.

For some of us, I guess we really have to make a firm decision to have a healthy lifestyle and eating habits. You have made it, and I think I can do it too. Thanks for your comment. It's very encouraging.

I used to be a fastfood junkie especially during the time I was working 6 days a week and I can't manage to cook my own lunch to take with me at work so I resorted to fastfood. It was so easily accessible what with the office located within the metro. But then I got sick and I had to change my diet so nowadays I prefer to eat healthier by cooking and preparing my own meals. I think it's all down to the time you allot for preparation, if you prepare in advance, you won't have any problems taking it with you to work or to school. :)

i prefer a home-cooked meal... i don't really like to eat fast food unless if it is really necessary and i don't have any other options... like you say, home-cook meal is healthier and also i get the satisfaction of preparing it myself for me and my hubby... :-) take care and have a nice day...

Oh, it's always good to cook for someone else (i.e. your hubby). Thanks for your response.

I like abit of both. I think if im honest i do prefer junkie fast food more than home cooked meals. Home cooked meals are nice though, i'm just quite a picky person and tend to have a certain thing i want to eat that day and that time.... so i stick with that. My kids really like italian home cooked meals like pasta bake and spaghetti bolinese.... i don't think kids would complain if my wife cooked it them everyday.

Hi, Joey (hope you don't mind me calling you this), I guess you will agree with me that sometimes fast food are tastier than home-cooked meals. Haha! But you're lucky if you have a good cook at home. If I had one, I would eat home meals because of their health value and because they're cheap. But will definitely treat myself to junk food once in a while.

Hi. I am more of a home-cooked meal fan than a fastfood junkie, though I still eat in different fastfood chains. I just try to eat more at home because I want to be healthier. I also love to cook that's why I spend more time in the kitchen than eating out. The food is still different when prepared at home. I think it's more hearty and comforting. I make it a point that when I eat on fastfoods, I eat less or I drink water instead of juice or softdrinks. I want to somehow get rid of those sodium and not add more sugar if I take juice or soda. I guess we should just balance the food we eat and pair it with exercise if we don't have much to do. There are also new ways on how to prepare foods at home faster and easier like those slow cooker which we can leave while we work or recipes that involves lesser preparation time but equally delicious meals. I think it's not an excuse for us to take for granted our health just because we're busy with work. In the end, we will just suffer the consequences so it's better to address these issues now and find better solutions than just accept the fact that we're too busy to prepare healthier meals. But I guess, it would be different for every household especially for those who are really on a tight schedule but it's good to try. =)

You've nailed it right in the head, and can't agree more. Fast food = health problems. Argh, I better give home cooking a try then. Thanks for your valuable advice, my friend.

Though I eat fast food but personally I prefer home cooked food, when it is cooked by my mom or my wife I really love it. Its natural for anybody to love home cooked food when you get delicious food at home. Home cooked food is healthy tasty and hygienic, I had a bad experience when once I had street side fast food my stomach was upset. I suffered from diarrhea for around three days. My voice is for home cooked food. Happy mylotting

You're echoing the voice of the majority, my friend. And yeah, I can't agree more about the hygiene of fast food. You now remind me of a very bad tummy experience after stuffing myself with junk food. That was not funny at all.
