Taxes Here, There and Everywhere!

How many of you have the habit of looking at your receipts and squirm with additional taxes you had to pay? It seems that everywhere I go, whatever I do I get taxed! Here in BC, Canada, there is 12% Harmonized Tax (GST,goods and services tax, PST, provincial sales tax). When buying CDs or DVDs and electronic equipment, we had to pay extra environment disposal fees. How about in your country, do you pay so much for taxes? What is your view on taxes?

Taxes is necessary so that the government will have enough in the coffers. But that does not means that I agreed to all the taxes. In my country, there is income tax, GST, road tax, tv licence tax, property tax, etc etc. Likewise, too many taxes.

Taxes are a necessity to fund government spending. What I disagree with is excessive government spending, which in the long run will result in an increase in the taxation level. In my country there have been talks to introduce a General Sales Tax. It is claimed that the tax will not burden the poor. I am not too happy about this because in the past there were traders who took advantage over ab overall slight increase in price of certain items to increase the price of products using the items. When questioned they blame the government. Maybe a better way is for the government to cut down on spending, starting in a real decrease in ministers' salary and allowances.

well, in the Philippines we also pay so much taxes, but the problem is we dont really see a lot from the collection. in fact, from time to time there is a news on tv saying some collection werent remitted by the officals.
