My Labrador puppy won't eat steak, or chicken and rice, even if you put it into his mouth. He refuses to eat it. I just got him. I found this so weird. He spits the steak right out of his mouth. He will eat dog food, but not often. I hear Labs have big appitites and this is so weird.

If I were you, I'd pay a visit to the vet, first. Only to be sure there is nothing wrong with him, especially that you said the breeder gave it for free. Did you ask the breeder what was the reason he didn't ask for money for the pure breed Labrador? My dog was also a picky eater when she came home, but she was only 7 weeks then. After a week she started to eat like a hungry wolf, and until now, she seems to be hungry no matter how much she eats. As your other dog, she will eat almost anything, no matter if it's edible or not. Maybe your Lab is in the same situation, maybe he's new to the environment and it takes more for him to adjust to his new family.

I'm gonna have him checked by a vet,I also called the breeder and asked what they have been feeding him.I went to buy the food and he ate it with out any problem.I guess besides being new here he's used to the food he was being fed before.I asked the lady why she didn't want him and she says she's too busy with her cleaning business. He seems like a great dog,but I'm still gonna have his health checked out to safe for him.

I sincerely hope there is nothing wrong with his health. Now that you say he eats the food he's used to without any problems, I am not so much worried. Maybe he was not used to home made food and that's all. There are people who complain that their dogs don't eat kibbles, you should be happy he eats them without problems.

consider yourself lucky. i would advise you to just give him dog food. it's got all the necessary stuff for your dog to grow healthy and strong. and i wouldn't be too worried about your pup's behavior. my girl owns 2 Labs and they're sometimes picky with their food.

I guess it's a good thing because my other dog is a black shepherd mix,and if you're not careful she'll eat your food right out of your hand.At least with my pur lab he'll just be getting dog food to help avoid thsat from happening.

How old is your puppy? You should be careful if he is really young because food like that can make them sick. You should just feed him puppy food for now and don't worry, he'll let you know when he is ready for people food. My puppy did when she was four months old when she jumped up and grabbed my bowl of matzo balls off the counter..Ever since then, she eats anything and everything she can get a hold of..lol

I'm sorry,I just felt frustrated. It's probably a good thing because I also have a shepherd mix and if I'm not careful she'll eat my food right from my hand that I'm trying to eat. It's probably better with the pure lab that he sticks to dog food.He does like the dog food better.I was just asking because every dog I had would eart anything. My shepherd also eats just anything and it's terrible.I have to watch her because she'll eat non food items which is bad.

He's a puppy! Feed him puppy food. Brace yourself he will be a big eater once his stomach has matured. That's usually around a year old!

Labs can be picky eaters... You say that he eats dog food, but not often. What do you feed him primarily? I have a Shepherd/Pyrenees cross. He has the same problem in not wanting to eat food. So much so that he is about ten pounds underweight. My Mastiff must be given a diet of fresh meats and veggies instead of kibble, and my Shepherd cross wouldn't even touch raw meat. Just recently we discovered this may be due to a condition called colitis. The gist: it's painful for our Shepherd to eat, so he doesn't. Puppies should have huge appetites. If he really doesn't want to eat anything, tell the vet. There could be something seriously wrong with him.

That's a coincident,my other dog is a shepherd/pyrenees mix.But she'll eat anything, even non food items ,so I have to watch her and I dog proofed my house. The lab seems not to have a big appetite,he seems to be the right weight. It's probably good he doesn't eat human food.My shepherd/pyrenees mix will eat anything, she'll even eat off the plate while you're eating,so I trained her to stay away from the table when we eat. She's pretty obedient.I am gonna take him the lab for a vet check up because I just got him over this past weekend.I'll be taking him for shots.I got the lab for free from a breeder and I'm wondering why they gave him free.He seems like a great dog.
