Do you prefer extreme heat or extreme cold in terms of climate?

Would you rather live in El Azizia, Libya, where the temperature reaches more than 50 degrees Celsius, or would you survive better in Antartica? As for me, I guess I would prefer to be in a hotter place because I live most of my life in the tropics where it's warm and humid. I've been to colder places before, and it gave me migraines, really stiff joints, and I basically couldn't move around, despite wrapping myself in warm clothing. What about you? Share your thoughts.

COLD. No contest! And I have osteoarthritis, so yes, it might be painful, but if you lived in Texas, you'd understand! I love cold stuff! In fact, the only time I ever had a drink of water cold enough for me was when I camped out at Glacier Point in Yosemite & drank some barely-melted snow!!! Mm-mmm good! Give me ice! Give me snow! You can have the hail, though; who needs nature throwing rocks at you? As for Libya, who'd want to live there no matter what the temperature is? I would rather be in a place that is warm. I love warm weather and I do not like the cold weather. It is cold here where I live right now and I can't stand it. I am actually sitting on the couch right now covered up with a blanket cause I'm cold. I have the heat on but I'm still cold. So if I had a choice I would love to be where it is warm all year round.

I already lived in Tripoli, Libya for four years and during a trip to Tunis we drove through an small ares of the Sahara Desert and the temperature was 51.5 degrees Celsius. I find the summer weather in Georgia to be worse that the summer in Tripoli, Libya as the nights were cool and we only needed a fan but the Humidity in Savannah, Georgia is unbearable and I could not survive with Air Conditioning. I prefer to live in a cold climate as one can always add more clothing to keep warm.

I'm from Chicago and really don't like the cold. I moved to California and school and can't take the 112 days either during the summer. It shouldn't matter that much if you have heat or air conditioning. I think I would prefer the hotter so long as there's air conditioning, but if there isn't I'd prefer the cold. I'll just stay by the fireplace.

I am from India and live in the Northern part of it. Here we have extreme climate. we have severe summer where the temperature shoots up to 43 degree Celsius with lot of humidity and in winter we almost go to 2 degree Celsius. Though both the seasons are not pleasant. I prefer summers because we can adjust ourselves in AC rooms after a days hard work to relax. but in winters in the extreme cold I need to work out in the field as I am a Vet working or a Stud farm, where we breed horses for the purpose of racing. Horses I mean the mares deliver the young ones invariably during night times and winter is the time when they foal the young ones. So during winters I need myself to keep awaken during night hours in extreme cold. though I cover my body with insulated clothing, I need o work with the horses where our manual intervention is required in assisting the foaling and while doing so we often get soiled which require cleaning and to clean this i need to have a bath in the night. some times if we have any problem then we need to forget about the cold and we are practically engrossed in our work to relieve the horse from pain and under such circumstances we are exposing ourselves to the cold unknowingly as we are having our full concentration on the problem with which we are involved. Though i get lot of job satisfaction after completing my job in such a cold weather, but doing such job on routine basis makes me bored too! That's why I prefer summers where I need not work under such tight positions! Thanks !

Isn't it just interesting how climate also affects our jobs? I feel you, my friend. I used to work in a really hot country, but I was saved by the air-conditioning. But I was in Mongolia for a few weeks and all I could think of was to keep myself from having a frostbite.

Extreme cold is preferable to me, too hot I cannot bear, stops me sleeping and gives me a headache. England is quite hot enough all the best urban

Oh I didn't know England is also hot. I always have this picture in mind of really cool summers and harsh winters. I guess I'll have to pay that country a visit sometime.

I was born in January, on the east coast of the U.S. From birth I have been used to cold weather. During the summer I Hate being too hot. So I'll take a satellite dish so I can see my shows and move to Antarctica.

Personally, I would choose the hotter climate every time as one can always cool down in the heat fairly cheaply, but it can get expensive to keep warm. Not only that, but sun helps the body to manufacture Vitamin D which is a very important nutrient and best got from the sun. _Derek

Another good point there. A bit of sunshine allows our bodies to produce Vitamin D. But too much can also give us skin cancer, eh. But still, I would prefer hot than cold.

I'll rather lived in my country the Philippines. It's neither cold or hot. but of course everybody is experiencing the so cold GLOBAL WARMING. In our country the weather is eratic. In the morning it's cold, then mid-afternoon it's very hot and in thge evening it's raining. For the first time we will have a rainy Christmas in our country. Because it's Global Warming. 2012 is nearing, ha!ha!ha!. I think if what they are saying aboyut the MAYAN 2012, is true, for me their will be POSITIVE CHANGE for the world. They said what is happening in our world today is part of the so called MAYAN CALENDAR 2012. We are entering in the so called AQUARIAN AGE. Let's see. OK, SALAMAT ( Thank You in Filipino)THERESQUILL. Nice meeting you friend. I have a new friend now.

I've been travelling a lot in the past two years, and I agree with you that the climate everywhere is becoming erratic. It's not only in the Philippines, my friend. About the Mayan Calendar, that's new information for me. Thanks for sharing.

i hate heat and hot places and usually prefer colder places. but in this case i think i'd have to choose El Aziza in Libya because people can survive there in comparison to Antarctica where chances of survival are minimal with no vegetation. that's why Antarctica is uninhabited except for the expedition and research teams. it just cannot support life (humans) but Libya does. besides, i have experience staying in similar hot places in India during my schooldays where average summer temperature is well above 40 degrees Celcius. at one point it soared to 49 degrees with average temperature around 45 degress. but overall i prefer colder places to hotter places, though not extremes like Antarctica because it's just cannot support life.

Very good point there, junil_jk. In fact, I think your analysis is just brilliant. I agree that Antartica might be hostile to living things that's why only a few organisms aurvive there in the first place. Thanks for your reply. Now you got me thinking.

I choose the second, the cold. Yes, I live in a cold place. I love that, coldness rather than heat. In cold weather, we can fight it against blanket, heater, or whatever. But in hot temperature, even though I have gone naked, still the heat burns me. In heat, I can hardly feel the sense of smoking. But in cold situation, smoking is so really great experience.

For me it would be very hard to choose because i like many things that both climates can offer. The heat is much better for outdoor fun, going to the swimming pool, going to the beach, chilling out with my friend till the break of dawn. But then again i like sitting in my cozy chair, watching movies, cuddling with my girlfriend while it's snowing outside. But then again, i guess i would choose the hotter climate :).

theredquill in the middle at least most of the time. sunny southern 'california c an get cold in the winter but usually warms up during the day so I will stay here and not go to Libya or Antartica as ' I would melt in one and freeze in the other. I was born and raised in South 'Dakota and love the summers but the winters are awful so I will stay here for now. lol

I hate the cold weather it gives me the brainfreeze effect. I get that but it's okay as long as I can keep myself warm. Hot climate is harsh too but as long as I can keep myself cool and adjust to the conditions then it's okay. Going to the extremes are pointless when you can stay in the middle but if your looking for something it can be worth something too.

Haha! I agree, but this is just for the worse case scenario. Like you, too much cold gives me brain freeze and ultra-stiff joints. Although being in a very warm climate can be unpleasant, if I were to choose, I think I would survive in hot than cold.

Well, I prefer also to live in hot places than in cold places. Because in hot places there is aircon but in cold places like antartica there is no aircon for cold but only hot water..hehe

Dear theredquill, I am living in a monsoon climate area. Temperature range from 7 to 35 degree celcius during spring, summer, autumn and winter. I don't think I can live with extremely hot or extremely cold area. If I must choose, I think hot would be easier for me. I have been to Haerbin, a place in northern China. It was -23 degree celcius. It was too cold and I couldn't talk and move when staying outside. Fortunately, the internal area got heater. Otherwise, it was too hard for me. Everywhere of my body was wrapped except my eyes. hahahaha...... Have a great week! Agonyaunt69 (11:32pm 29 Nov 2010, Hong Kong time)

I guess you can't really win either way in extreme climates. My first response was to say that cold is better because you can always add more layers and try physical activity to warm up, but there are times when I just can't get warm no matter what I do. I would rather be in a hot climate near water where I could stay in the shade or go for a dip to cool off.

I would rather in an extremely cold place than an extremely hot place. I am a kind of person who just can't bear heat. Of course cold is unbearable at times but heat becomes more unbearable to me.
