Obama freezing Federal salaries -- Does that mean nobody will deliver our mail?

I was just reading about this and I'm concerned that we're going to be facing something similar to the MTA transit strike in New York City a few years back. If Obama freezes all federal salaries, then that includes the Postal services right? They're government employees aren't they? If they don't get paid, they're not going to deliver our mail/packages. Thoughts/comments?

Since the majority of what I get delivered is bills I suppose I will not be so upset by not getting them right away. However, we are expected to be on top of due dates so I suppose our creditors will not hear of excuses. I tend to believe that if this is so then there will be such a back log and more room for errors. Our US is sort of screwy as it that dong this will cause yet more havoc.

Maybe they will all quit and those who are out of work or earning low wages can take over their jobs. I wouldn't mind making even a fraction of what some of these people make.

I hear you with this as I would be one of the first in line trying to obtain one of those jobs as well. I feel I perhaps could do a better job serving the public, as so many of them seem to totally hate their jobs. Too bad.

Actually I feel that some government officials should take a cut in pay, or at least cut back on the costs they incur that we pay for. Freezing salary means they will not be able to get raises in pay. They will still get paid the rate of pay they are currently getting. I would like to see this happen to what it costs us to cater to the governors, senators, and other officials in those capacities. Cut back on the parties they give for whatever reasons. That just may help....

Ahhhh so that's what they mean by salary freeze, no more raises, gotcha. Sorry, I misread it.

Thats what I figured, that it was misread. It is ok, I have done the same with things I have read before. Could you imagine if they froze all salaries of President, past and present, senators, representatives, as well as governors? Cancel all these extravagant parties, just do what is needed instead of taking advantage of their positions.

Hi Handsome, I am not overly worried about this. I actually think it is a good idea and so do some of the federal employees that will be affected. It does not mean that they won't get paid. It just means that they will not be getting any raises for this year. Most of them get paid very well as it is and have benefits that are worth more than most people earn each week. I know there are some that will moan and groan but it's ridiculous. Some of us have not been able to get a raise in years and earn far less than these people. It's just a temporary thing aimed at trying to help get the economy back on track.

They'll get paid, they just won't get any raises for two years. And they are screaming about it--there are millions without jobs, living on unemployment and food stamps with no hope. Why shouldn't they chip in and sacrifice a little to help the country get on its feet?! I can understand their rage although it's not for the right reason. They're angry because their income won't be as much. They should be angry because politicians allowed the mortgage meltdown to happen and start the economy sinking. They are angry for selfish reasons, from what I have read.

wow I missed that on the news why on earth would he freeze federal employees wages? That doesn't make sense to me in any way and I think it would also mean the postal workers because they are government employees. How awful I hope that this doesn't really happen because it is going to be a disaster for everyone around.

I agree, I'd like to see federal employees take a pay cut as well. I think a salary freeze is more then reasonable. I can't see why they'd strike over this. I'd imagine very few people are getting raises in this economy.

Actually there have been more pay cuts than raises..

Hi handsomeitaliano, I haven't seen this yet. What is the reason for the salary freeze? I think that Obama should freeze his own salary. Maybe that would give him a taste of how some of us are having to live. Not enough money and no health insurance. Not having mail delivery would really suck!

All I get from snail mail is bills, so it's an absolute certainty, strike or no strike, SOMEONE will deliver it!
