Do you bring home your work?

Do you and how often is it that you bring your work home? For me, as much as possible I try to finish everything while in the office to avoid bringing home some work, but because of the nature of my job there are days in which I really need to. Like today, instead of just leaving my laptop in the office, I had to bring it home to finish some month end reports to meet tonight's deadline. I couldn't finish it while in the office because there, I had to attend to a lot of things and and be there to look out for my team, while hear at home, I can work without any disturbance with only mylot and the whole world wide web distracting me. How about you guys?

Every job is different, but I didn't bring it home. Why work for free? Granted if you don't mind, but still...the more you do the more they expect you to do but where is the raise? I did that...gave 150% to the job etc...all it got me was taken advantage of and doing the job of 3 people for the salary of one. Granted this day..you have to be concerned of getting layed off if you don't do enough...but then again..just don't let them take advangtage of you. I finally had to put a stop to it cause I was working 10 hours a day, 2 for free, taking it home and 6 hours on sat (for free salary) while no one else was doing it! Yet they got the same pay as I did and all the same bene's....all it showed was that they could all "count" on me to do their work so they didn't do their own work. I put a stop to that too...if it wasn't complete as they were supposed to complete it bfore giving it to me....I just handed it back to them with a "to do list". It stopped within a couple weeks!

Yeah, don't let them abuse you for it. In my case it really is part of my job to be on call when needed so there are times I'd really have to work at home, but as much as possible I try to avoid it and finish everything I can while in the office. Right now though, I'm working from home again, after calling in sick.

Yes, there's a lot of people to disturb you at work, but the downside is there's a tendency you might get lazy while at home because you just wanna relax and all and since no one can see you anyway you might not do your work as seriously as you would in the office with other people watching you. I guess it's a matter of self-discipline.

There are times you have to bring it home...depends on the job. Hope you don't have to to often! And sometimes...nice you can do it at home....often you can get it done faster than at the office cause of no intruptions!

I usually do my work in the office, but sometimes when I cannot finish it, I do it at home on my computer. I find that I can do a more efficient job in the office than at home. Back home while working on the computer, I might do some other things on line besides work. Out of this reason, I prefer finishing my work in the office. Have a great day, silentwill.

That's true. At home there may be a lot of distractions not to mention your bed may be calling you a lot and you'll just suddenly wake up not realizing you fell asleep. For me though there are more disctractions at the office especially with the position I was holding when I posted this discussion, I had to be able to be there for my team answering their queries, while finishing some reports so I ended up bringing home the reports.

I have made it a point not to bring home any work, I want to be able to give quality time to my two boys. If I am home, I want to be really home, not just physically there but still working and thinking about office stuffs. Besides, I think that 8 hours of stress at work is already too much, I don't think its good to extend that unless I really need to. Good thing about my work is that if I have to stay for overtime work, there are not much people around to bother me anymore hehe

Yeah, one thing that really slows me down when in the office is people asking me a lot of questions, if only there weren't that many people around, I could finish what needs to be done and get home without worrying about anything.

I am working in a Credit Union or a Cooperative and we are cutting expenses. At exactly 6PM, our AC units had to be turned off. I am having a hard time staying in our office with ACs turned off so if by 6PM i'm unable to finish my works I bring them home, although, only if, I think I will not make it on my set schedule. If I am working on an account that needs to be done as soon as possible, I try to finish my works at home too. Otherwise, I finish them the next day.

Hmmm I have heard some companies do that turning off the AC to cut costs but I don't remember the name of company.

I tried bringing home my work but I don't finish it. I'm too tired and lazy to work when at home I want to rest and enjoy.

Never! At the main company that I work at, I pretty much float around from store-to-store doing cashiering and other things (tagging in dry cleaning, cleaning in general, etc) and that's not something you can take home (luckily) - you just have to stay late and finish up your work if you can't get it done in time. So, I can't say I can relate. Luckily though. I figure one day, when I have a much better job (an actual 'career', that is) this might be something I'd do..I'm a freak about getting work done. lol.

I hate to involve my family in my boring desk job, and I try to spend as much time with them as I can. I try to finish every task I have to do in the office, so I can get home to my family and help my kids with their homework, enjoy a nice family meal, etc. One of my work mates got in a row with his partner over him not spending enough time with his family, and consequently, they split up. This is an ever present warning for me to keep my work and my family life separate at all times. Despite enjoying my work, I do always look forward to coming home to my family at the end of the day, and that's what keeps me going ;). Luke

You're right Luke. That is also the reason I hate bringing home my work. Work and personal stuff should be separate. Work should not interfere with the quality time we spend with our loved ones, because after all, it is probably them that's the reason we are working hard for.

You're right. Fortunately for me we have a new house helper so I don't have much to do at home except cook a little and wash clothes.
