--- I'm very particular about being hygenic! I do offer money "only" to those beggars who are handicapped ... as its really hard for them to work physically on their own! Now the problem is with these category of beggars who are damn FIT ... they believe in minting money from public at the traffic signals,multiplexes,bla bla --- they have got their own spots to earn money. Thing which seems disgusting to me is they hold your hands or keep on bugging you until you offer some money... Awwwww their hands are so untidy and not to mention the stuff they have been part of until last minute! If i'm not wrong they least care about being tidy and i really wonder if they ever wash their hands ... so i do not wish to touched! I'm not trying to be discriminative or implying something bad against these beggars! I have got no problem in offering money until they maintain some distance --- meant to say "they shouldn't dare to touch me!" How about you ... how would you react if beggars touch you asking for money ??? Is it common for people not to be touched OR you're one of those folks who wish to be touched? lol *just kidding*

If it wasn't for my daughter I would probably be one of those people out there asking for help. I haven't been able to find a job and it isn't that easy with the economy the way it is. Anyways, no I wouldn't care if they touched me, there is always a shower I can take at home. I feel for some of these people, because I look at them and realize I could be one of them. I understand that some are just scammers, still there are many out there that have lost homes, and just don't know what else to do to survive. If you don't have an address you can't qualify for assistance... I just want to say I am one of the lucky ones that has blessed with a daughter that is willing to put up with her old mom..

Yes I am grateful for my daughter.. Thing is not all beggars that look like they could do the work, doesn't mean there is work for them to do. Like I said, there are some out there just to scam us, thing is there are more that look like they can do work, act like they can do work, Just can't find work and has lost everything and left to live on the streets.

I was talking about the beggars who are perfectly fit yet they prefer to beg and annoy people --- which isn't right! I would prefer to Offer money to those who are in real need than to those act or make excuses. You must be really lucky to have such a caring daughter --- i see that she loves you so much

I have experienced this at least about 3 times, in a food centre. Well, there's this woman who is very unkempt and has untidy hair and dresses almost like a beggar. I heard from other stall owners that this woman has children but those children doesn't care about her and doesn't give her any money, which explains her actions. Many times, she went on the bus without paying and even had to resort to begging, which also became a harassment to other passengers. Now, here's my very own experience and it's quite harrowing, lol. She would often go to the food centre and then target those people queuing or sitting down, and then tap their shoulders to ask for money. Many people ignored her and one man was so disturbed that he hit the woman's hand, scaring her away. My family met her again, this time, that woman spoiled our appetites. Okay, we were there eating pork trotters, and it also happened to be one of her favourites. We were even sitting opposite the woman and suddenly, when we were eating, that woman took her chopsticks and lunged to our food and tried to take some of it and EAT IT!!!???!!! Oh my, that sure spoiled my mood and appetite. After that experience, we still ate pork trotters but cautiously. Now, that woman is nowhere to be seen. I think she has been kept in custody or sent to the mental hospital or what.

Ahhh that must have been such an experience --- she could have asked for food than to barge in and get hold of it just like that. I would prefer to stay calm than to raise my hands over beggars to scare them --- irrespective of the level of annoyance.

Sunny.. i had experienced this before.. And I really don't like this. I guess they are learning new stuff for getting money.. I only offer money who really needed i mean who can't do any work for earnings.. And still mostly i prefer to give food packet rather then money...

Fortunately our streets are not swarmed with beggars. The local council is very strict and ensure that beggars are rounded up and put in social welfare centers if they are homeless. We are untroubled by this public menace who make a living out of public sympathy. When I went to a neighboring country I was shocked to find the whole family sitting along the pavements in a busy shopping area begging passersby. Their hair are unkempt and their clothes are so worn out and dirty as if they haven't changed clothes for a long time. It is so pitiful that they chose to live in such a pathetic situation without personal hygiene. In that kind of physique they portray, I better not be seen near them.

Heard a lot about rules being imposed in your place and they seem to be really good.With the kinda population in my country its pretty hard to keep a tab on beggars and no state government would even think of providing welfare centers for the needy.Its really sad that these beggars are spoiling their kids future too by encouraging them into this begging stream than to educate them in government schools for free.

They had better not touch me. Here that would be considered an assault. But that would go for clean looking strangers equally. No strangers are supposed to touch us in my culture. That just is not done.

Hello sunny, I have experienced the same in when traveling in bus by small children. They accompany with a big child or an elder person and started to sing some hindi songs (with broken words) in an annoyed way. We have to tolerate the song then we have to pay for it too. Some conductors in bus are smart and they will give some money before starting the song and ask them to leave the bus ‘without eating the ear’. Some are sympathetically allow them to do their business too. The small kids with dirty dress and hands will ‘scratch’ us till they get money. I too can’t enjoy their ‘scratching’ with dirty fingers. I like kids very much but can’t do justice to these kids, as they are begging money on behalf of some other…

You won't understand the real meaning of charity unless beggars touched you. Yes they are untidy. But,have you ever think why rich people got sick too? aren't they hygienic enough for germs to attack them? How sure are we with the air that we breathe in now? Yes,those beggars looks dirty,untidy etc..might carry all the virus. I also don't want those dirty beggars touch me,but,i am not sure either if someone who is clean looking beside me is not sick or had any illness that i've never known. I have a friend who is very healthy,hygiene conscious and then one day he felt a terrible headache,went to the hospital for a check up and the result is,he has a brain tumor. For just a month after he was diagnosed with the tumor,i couldn't even recognize him now. He is not the same person i've used to know. So skinny and lifeless (waiting for his time) Again,i also hate people who asks for money but looks fit for any job (i never gave alms to those kind of beggars) Anyway,i don't really give money to street beggars,i am into charity works. So,what i did is,asks them if they are homeless and if they want i helped them (put them in a home care or in an orphanage). Have a great weekend

I am totally with you. Many times these people would go up to you and get your attention by poking you, which I hate so much. I would usually get mad and tell them not to touch me. They can always ask and say what they want without touching us, right?
@sunnycool (12714)

Absolutely --- they poke you for money and they never care to move on despite of me letting them know that i have got no change to offer! Getting mad at them is something i have never done --- i would prefer to walk aside than to shout at them.

As far as i'm concerned, no beggars has ever touched me when they are begging. MOst of them are seated in their own space while stretching out their hands for money. As begging is illegal here, so it's a rare sight to see beggars walking around trying to ask for money. IN other countries such as africa, once u give one beggar money, all the rest will come out of nowhere, surrounding u and won't let u go easily. As such, i won't allow myself to pity them at the expense of my safety.

Helping them who really deserve it is a good thing. But who are fit enough no need of helping them. So dont help people who are really fit and can earn money. They just fool around instead of working. The people who are handicapped can be touched and given money. Even physically handicapped people so many of them try to earn money themselves. They dont get into the business of begging. It depends from individual to individuals.

Hi sunny..I too experienced this..Really it will not feel good if they touch us.. I think their thought will be, if they touch us we will give them money..So that these beggars are reacting in this manner..I have seen some beggars who just sit simply and allow their children to beg..I hate this kind a beggars a lot than those who touches us..Both are not acceptable but I get irritated a lot if I see some children begs and their parents sitting idle..

Sorry I arrived a little late on your nice little discussion, anyway I think all this discussion has got to do with invading somebody's private space, you see even wild animals has a primitive instinct that when you get to near they become dangerous or perceive a threat. Humans no matter how civilized we think we are still retain some form of it, that's why we become uneasy when somebody we do not really know comes too close and what more with dirty stinky hands ugh, this can be refined especially at an early age, so with my children when playing with other kids I tell them that they can talk and play with the other kids but do not touch them if they do not want to be touched and vice versa. Well this kids on the streets never had parents to teach them manners or how to behave or how not invade a persons private space, driven by hunger they think touching you is the best way to get your attention and give in to what they want.
