Using both shift keys on the keyboard.

You know, half of the time, I forget that there is a second shift key on the computer. I always use the one on the right side of the computer. Which I'm pretty sure is wrong, as you're supposed to use the shift key opposite of the key that you're supposed to type. Do you use both shift keys? Or just fallen into the habit of using one or another.

ah. Now that you mention it, I also only use the right side shift key. It's probably because my right pinky is stronger than my left or maybe you're right and it just habit.

Yeah I think for most it is in fact a habit. Although like you mentioned there is a reason and this is very sound reasoning. So I think that it could very well vary for many people. Thank you for responding. It was appreciated. Have a nice day.

Well i exactly the same as you and only use the right hamd side one i dont know how this habbit happend like you said you dont know but i think well i am nearly positive it is because it is the biggest one i think they should make a computer with only one but with more space between the keys that are air gaps so the hot air can escape so the computer dont over heat i also think they should make laptop fans so that then the computer would cool down quicker.

Yeah, it just happened because I did it over the years. No one told me any different. Therefore, was I really going to make the leap to do different, because no one was telling me what I was doing was wrong? Therefore, I kept doing it and I'll keep doing it. Old habits do die hard. Thank you for responding. Have a nice day.

I ALWAYS use the left one. I also only use the left CTRL and ALT. Don't know why. Maybe because it's by tab, and CAP LOCK? But then again... I use the enter key and arrow keys a lot (gaming). Haha computer habits...

I've been on the computer roughly for about twelve years(give or take). Or at least that's how long I have been typing. Twelve years in this day and age is a long time. Therefore, there is going to be some time where we are going to be some level of retraining for me to use it "the proper way". If I have to think about it, that's just wasting time. Thank you for responding. It was appreciated. Have a nice day.

I have people get upset because I use a keyboard like I was taught along time ago in what they called "typing class" when I was in school. They had us do exercises to help memorize the keys without looking. So yes I use both shift keys. The only problem I have is the numbers, I was never able to do those without looking.

Oh yes the numbers. Or to be more accurate, the symbols on the numbers. There are a couple I know off hand, but the only time I really look at the keyboard is to look at those symbols to make sure I am right. Thankfully, I do not use them that often. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I type with both hands so I can't imagine just using one. But I suppose if a person was a two finger typist it could be easy to stick to one key only.

I just think that it is one of those things that it has always been that way. We have fallen into a habit when we type. Then we just do it and forget why. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I tend to only use the right one as well, I dont know how I got into that habit, its a good thing I dont have to worry about any typing tests!

I'm pretty sure when I took a typing test in school, that might have been the only thing I got docked for. After about ten or eleven years, its pretty much hard wired into my brain. Thank you for response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

yep, it was proven by the fact that my left shift key was washed out, but the right one was not. hmm.. should i use both of them? i guess not. :D most of the right handed must used to press the left side shift key, in other case, the left handed used to press the right side shift key.

Well at the very least, if one shift key goes out, you have another one to use, until you can get a replacement keyboard. Of course, it is an awkward transition. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.
