Home-made Christmas wreath?

Me and my sister improvised with some of our pine tree's branches in the back yard and tried to make a make-shift wreath. End of story is that it turned out horribly ridiculous (but quite funny) looking. lol. It was a mess of twine and ribbon and pine and... was quite a spectacular failure to be honest. I'm wondering - do any of you make your own Christmas wreaths? or any other kind crafty, hand-made ornaments? If you make your own wreaths... do you have any instructions on hand you could post?

I've never made one from real trees, but I have one that I made from one of those fake green swags. I used a wire coat hanger and bent it into a circle and twisted the swag around and around it, then glued on ribbon and balls. It's not the fanciest looking, but I use it anyway.

I remember making a good one when we were in grade school using newspaper and wire molded round and used as a stiffener, we then covered it with green creep paper that has slits on all sides in a cirrcular pattern until all the newspaper that has been stiffened by wire is fully covered by the green paper making sure loose ends are secured by paste, next we tie a red ribbon on it, a little gold or candle made from toilet paper roll inner cartons, presto you now have an instant Christmas wreath Good luck on your project

I used to make my own wreath when Christmas was in my house, but the only real things were the pine cones. The first year I tried to make the whole thing real with pine branches, but the branches would not go where I wanted them to. My handmade decorations started when I was little. When my children were small we made mangers with clay or material. I still have then and love them in spite of them not being what you would call beautiful.

I was half-expecting to see a picture of your creation here with this discussion! I don't do homemade decorations. Thankfully, Wal-Mart does, and it's just a couple of blocks away from my house. Although when it comes to wreaths, I don't buy them. We bought one 3 or 4 years ago, and it's just the same one that makes an appearance in front of our door every Christmas time.

I had a pine cone wreath that I made for years. I went to a floral shop and bought a wreath form...it was just wires. Then we went out and collected pine cones. We looked for different shapes so there would be variety. Then, using floral wire, we wired the pinecones to the wreath frame in a pattern we liked. Long pinecones and little round ones, as well as any other kind we could find, made it pretty easy to come up with a satisfactory look. When it was all done, we sprayed it with a clear varnish to stop the sap from leaking and give it some shine. Then, you decorate it with whatever you choose. Mine had little birds and some fruit, but whatever you choose would be great. You could put glitter on the pinecomes, paint them, or just leave them plain. Let your imagination run wild.

When I was little my mother used to give us coat hangers and we would cut out squares from plastic bags and make wreaths with them. At the time they were so beautiful I thought but if I saw one now I think it probably would be just garbage that my mother let us do to keep us entertained lol. I have never made any other kind of wreath. You should have posted a picture for us to see if it really turned out as bad as you thought.

That was funny! At least you can still laugh over it. When that happens to me, I juts usually throw it out and fuss about how it was just a waste of time. Anyway, my parents are great at that. They usually make their own Christmas wreaths and swags. Not from fresh pine though, since that would just dry out in the heat here in my country. Their decorations always turn out good though. People who come to our house during the Christmas season always end up admiring our decorations. I would gladly give you tips, if only I were as good as them at being crafty. Sadly, I am not so I would just have to commend you on your good sense of humor. :)

I made one 9 years ago with tree boughs and a coat hanger bent into a circle. It made a mess, but it was pretty good, I added a great big bow at the bottom and that was it. It made the flat smell so nice! Now I want to get back to making my own xmas ornaments and even a wreath next year. This year is hetric, unfortunately.
