Many online stores require that your PayPal account is 'verified' (that is, linked to a bank account or credit card) before they will accept payment by PayPal. This is so that they can be assured of receiving their money. The payment system has no way of checking whether your PayPal balance is enough to cover the purchase. It can only know whether your account is verified or not. If your account did not have enough in it to pay for the goods, the system is such that the order would be placed but the transaction would fail (because PayPal does not allow negative balances in accounts). This may sound slightly crazy but it is because of the complicated way that orders are placed and transactions are verified. You can 'verify' your PayPal account (so that PayPal can transfer money to you AND so that you can authorise PayPal to withdraw money to pay for any purchases if the transaction exceeds the balance in your PayPal account) by giving the account details of a credit card OR a normal current or checking account. You have to have - or have access to - one or the other in order to do this.

Good to see you here! I wanted to link my paypal account to my bank. How would I do that? I know someone someone who did and the payments through paypal goes directly to her bank account. In fact she has already cancelled her membership in the credit card that she used for the verification. She can't remember how her husband did that. Do you have an idea on this?

I am not sure if you can only link it to credit cards. I think you can also link your paypal account with debit cards. I haven't encountered this problem since I used my credit card to link it on my paypal.

Hello, I believe that it is not needed to link your credit card to your paypal account, but you would need to select the option to pay through paypal, as opposed to creditcard through paypal. If you have enough balance on your paypal account, it should work out without problems. If the problems persist, I would reccomend either contacting paypal customer service, or the customer service of the website your buying from.

My PayPal is linked to my bank account, so I've never had any issues using my PayPal. It is verified, as well. But that is a good question you raised there because I don't have any working credit cards either (I completely lost one due to a pyramid scheme a family friend got us in to, and the other one is barely active but I'm paying down my debt on it's in rough shape, and will be for at least five years. But as I said, if you can contact your bank as you're linking your PayPal account, they should help you, that's what I did, and I got verified very quickly. Best of luck! PS - if anyone knows, do you have to have a credit card attached if our paypal is already verified? I hope not, as it's my favourite processor.

Aaahhh. Well spotted - I didn't even think about verification, although I used mine before it went through verification with the bank. I don't have my paypal linked to any card, just my bank account, and I use it all the time with no problem, though I don't know if some companies would prefer you to have the card linked? I don't see why though, because they receive instant payment via paypal, so you shouldn't need any kind of backup.

Ok first things first, you said you have money on your paypal , maybe the money in the account is not sufficient to buy the item you want so you need to fund your account with either a credit card or from your bank. Assuming your money is sufficient, when you press the paypal pay button, you are redirected to two boxes, one is if you have a card on the left side and what type you want to use, and the one on the right asks you to login to your pp account, choose this and follow all instructions like confirming the cost in order to complete the transaction. Hope you find this helpful, good luck

I have a paypal account and also a debit card. But, I just tried to withdraw from my paypal account to my card. But, I never tried buying online. But, I've read a paypal's guidelines when you use paypal you just use your email address. That's why your card number is safe because you dont have to give it when buying.

If you have money in your paypal account then you can certainly use it to pay for as long as the store accepts paypal. But if you do not have money on your paypal, then you have to fund it. If in case you have linked your credit card to paypal, then paypal can facilitate the processing of payment using your credit card or perhaps by using your debit card.

There are 2 options whether you link to your bank account if you are in the US or link to credit card/debit card. Its free to apply for debit card in Malaysia but I am not sure in your country as well. Linking will cause some fees if I am not mistaken is USD1.95

I have it linked to my credit card but you can also link it to a debit card or even to a Bank account. Check at paypal and see what you can do. There are lots of posibilities.

You can link your paypal account to a credit or debit card, or to your bank account, if you want to, but you don't have to. Some sites don't accept paypal, but if they do, then they shouldn't ask for your credit card details to make a paypal payment at all. Just the email address that you used to set up your paypal account with. Hope that helps.

Paypal needs to verify if you are an actual person in order to ascertain that there will be no "hot money" being "laundered" through their system. As such you are required to verify your account using an identification system vetted by the banking system. Thats why they require you to verify your account through a visa/mastercard credit card or debit card. The credit card is more difficult to acquire than a debit card. A debit card is just like a regular ATM card connected with visa or mastercard. It is easy to get, ask your bank for one and you will be verified by paypal in no time

I have linked my paypal account to a debit credit card so I can get my paypal account verified. I haven't withdrawn from it yet. I have known someone who used a credit card to get verified but she has linked her paypal account to her saving account and had her credit card can canceled after verification. That's what I want to know too. I want to link my paypal account to my bank too so I won't have to pay subscription to the debit-credit card which I have enrolled in for paypal verification purpose only.

No you don't need to link a credit card, unless you are doing some sort of business, where a customer pays you or you are paying someone. But if you're just having a paypal account for transferring funds and buying things, then you just have to verify your account by linking your paypal account to your bank account.

additional of what they tell you, when you buy online your paypal account must be verified to verify it. You should get credit or debit card and put your card number into your PayPal account. So that, you can able to make transaction ;)
