Unemployed? Many companies won't even consider hiring you.

http://www.npr.org/2010/11/16/131367533/some-will-only-hire-if-you-already-have-a-job It doesn't matter what the reason or circumstances were. If you are unemployed right now, many companies will not hire you. While ere may have been good reasons for this in the past, like most likely you were fired for not being the best person for the job, would that apply to today's market? Are you a hiring employer who follows this policy? Or are you looking for work and had this happen to you? Or are you just appalled that this happens in today's environment? Or are employers justified doing this?

I know some companies who are a bit wary of hiring people after they have been unemployed longer for 12 months. This is why when I was unemployed I looked into volunteering, because it looks better on your CV/resume saying that although you have not been in paid work you have volunteered. It shows that you are willing and that you want to work. It is bad though because today there are a lot of people who really want to work, however there can be thousands of people applying for the same position, so a lot of people can be out of work for ages, and these are people who really do want to work. And after being unemployed for a while people can feel quite down, they feel like they will never get a job, and hearing this news that a lot of companies wont hire you, its not going to make anyone feel better.

I've heard of this from long ago so it was always important for me to keep a job even when switching. But now that I have been jobless for a long time, it worries me even more. I think it is reasonable in a way because having a job keeps you in that mode... but I also think it is not unfair because a lot of people are flexible and people can adapt quickly... there are people who have jobs who shouldn't be qualified to get the job too.

I don't think that such a thing is happening here.. because when you are unemployed the companies may hire you at a lower pay you need the job more the they... so if you have a relevant experience then you could get a job..

I think it makes a good impression if you are currently an employee but if you want to apply for Govt. Jobs then you will see that they have some different procedure for you. They will conduct a written test throughout the country which is larger than conducted by any other public sector company. Then they will take an interview and they have a good criteria to get you inside. I will prefer to apply for a Govt. Job instead of the public sector jobs. I have applied for two jobs in Govt. sector and I am also doing some other work at the same time and I have to continue it until I don't get the Govt. Job.

there are lots of companies who will usually hire those fresh graduate coz for them it is easy for them to train young, fresh graduate coz they have no experience and easy to follow you instructions, unlike those who have long & many experience that are hard to trained coz they will apply what they have learned from their previous jobs and follow what they have been used to...
