My old PC is failing. Last time the RAM was dead. Now it's either dead (again) or just slipped a bit, I can't use the PC anyway. So I use my laptop. But I work with it for over 8 hours a day. Is that bad for its life expectancy? How many hours is okay to use laptop in one day?

I use my laptop all day, and I've had no problems. I would just make sure you don't use it directly on your lap so that overheating doesn't become a problem. They make lots of little lap trays that you can use with your laptop to make sure it stays cool while you use it. Keeping it free of dust is also important, that might be what caused problems with your PC.

Will do. I bought a cooling fan a long time ago & have been using it along with my laptop. Even when I feel like lying down and put it on my lap, or my stomach even, I still use the cooling fan on top of a very thick book so it'll keep spinning.

Think of a laptop as basically a miniature desktop computer, as long as your computer can breathe and you dust it regularly as was already stated you should be fine. I use a laptop for serious web design, scripting, hand coding, and graphic work and have no problems. Just do simple everyday maintenance like dusting vents, disk clean ups and defragmentation, and keep your laptop in a good clean dry place you should be just fine using it as your main computer. If my gateway can withstand the labor intensive projects I use it for yours should be just fine for general web surfing, email, etc. I hope this helps and if you have any more questions feel free to ask me.

I see. Thanks for the info. I was pretty worried 'coz I need to use it a lot every day. I tune it up every few days, so I guess that's okay? I just use if for web surfing, typing, watching videos. By the way, I use an Acer Aspire series. I hope it'll be just fine.

I travel out of town often on my business trips, and I always take a long my laptop then to work on the projects and to keep in touch with my office back home. So, I would be using it many many hours each day. It works well, no problem at all. Yes, whenever possible, I need to have it recharged.

I use mine for about 18 hours or more in a day and I don't see any problems with that at all. I've been using laptops for 3 years and I use it all the time. As long as you regularly clean your fan assembly to see to it that it's not full of dust and is working properly, you can definitely use our laptop even for 24 hours. If you want to save the battery life, you can just take it out and directly use your ac power.

So it's actually okay to use it that many hours everyday? Um, okay. Usually I take out the battery, but sometimes when the electricity's down a few times in a day I use it just in case. You mean the cooling fan that we put under the laptop?
