A cough per se is not harmful, it is not a disease but a symptom of an underlying medical condition, cough is a body defense mechanism to expel harmful virus and bacteria from the body , and sometimes with the aid of mucus which we also term as phlegm or sputum which engulfs or wraps the invading microorganisms for easier expulsion.

hi Wet cough is caused when there is accumulation of phlegm or mucus in your lungs, when when we cough, we find the mucus coming up to to our throat hence it is called wet cough or productive cough. Dry cough is caused by allergy or throat irritation. Though both are not desirable, wet cough if not treated can lead to respiratory tract infection. Doctor initially treat it with expectorant, which helps to clear off all the phlegm, if it does not improve then you have to resort to anti biotic treatment. Dry coughs are treated by anti-allergy medicines also called anti-histamine.

I think the dry cough is a couch without phlegm and the wet cough i with phlegm, lie you could really hear it when a person coughs. They are both harmful though, and has to be treated with antibiotics. Couch is just caused by germs so avid it by keeping yourself and your things clean.

I am not really familiar what is the difference between them what i know is dry cough is the one that you will feel there is something burning inside your throat if you have an asthma usually you can experience it,when the acid from our stomach pass to the throat while we are sleeping it can also cause dry cough, if you have sinusitis or allergies too. While the wet cough is the one that has a mucus on it occurs if we have a respiratory problems like pneumonia, bronchitis etc. Both are harmful since it is coz by bacteria so better be aware of the surroundings and of course consult a doctor for a best advice. Have a great day! :)
