Do you prepack for a trip and then pack?

Whenever we are going to take a trip my husband nags me to prepack. I am supposed to put all the stuff I'm going to take on a chair in a room in our house that is seldom used. But some of the stuff I'm going to take I'm still going to use until we actually pack for the trip! Then there's the stuff I couldn't find to prepack for the trip. But really gets me is the stuff I thought I couldn't find but did, but I didn't know I did til I looked in the suitcase. So I'm running around looking for tons of stuff at the last minute because everything was sitting in three different stages. Either not packed at all yet, prepacked or packed and didn't know it! So, how do you pack for a trip?

I do pre-pack. It makes things a lot easier. I also make a list to make sure that I don't forget anything and then I can keep the list and use it to check and make sure I don't leave anything behind when I return home.

Wow! I can never do that! I have always packed the day before. One time deal. That way I know where everything is. He is so hyper about it he's always asking 5 days before. Yuck.

Two weeks before I go on a trip I write a packing list for myself, my toddler son and my baby daughter. Then I go shopping for any essential things that I know I haven't got. One of these items would be ear planes (small plastic screw like things that go in my ear) so on the plane I can avoid ear pain. Then about one week before my departure date I get my luggage and began packing. I take few clothes and just one travel book to try to keep the weight not too heavy. I have a Phil and Teds buggy and my son that is unable to walk goes in the back then my daughter goes in the front. I have one bag on the bottom of the buggy and one bag on of the hood of the buggy. Then I have a backpack to put on my back. I have to take my son's catheters and four to six tins of soy formula. I use my bed to lay out the items I am about to pack. Good luck with your packing.

I'm impressed. That's a lot of stuff to organize. I saw one woman at the airport make sure she had made it to the 50 lb mark with her checked bag. She had two young children with her to boot!

About a week before I go I bring out the suitcase and start putting things in there that I can pack....other things are checked like my toiletries...to make sure everything is full or still useable....I also have my last minute list. Things I can't pack until right before I leave as I am still using them...but if I don't make a list I usually forget something important!

Not really. What I do is i prepare a list of things that I would pack. Then on the night before my trip, that's when I actually pack.

No, I do not pre-pack. I make a lift a few days before, buy any items I am missing, and then 1 or 2 days before the trip, I lay everybody's clothes (except my husband's) out on my bed, to make sure the clothes match, that everybody has enough socks and underwear, an extra pair of shoes, PJs, etc. Then I pack my clothes and my kids' clothes. Finally, the night before the trip, in a separate bag, I pack the cosmetics, medicines, contact lens stuff & toiletries--and throw in a book, too!

I never prepack. I usually travel 2 or 3 tmes a year but I never had the chance to prepack. The reason maybe is due to my work. Everytime I tried to have a vacation, I have to double my time and effort to my work before I leave the office. So it takes me til the late hours of the night to finish everything and that leaves me 3 or 4 hours to pack before my flight. hahaha....
