Last few days, a lunar eclipse was happen and i know that most of us are aware of this. Before, when i was a child, i was asking to my mom where did birthmarks come from and she answered that before when she was pregnant by me, she go outside looking at the moon where a lunar eclipse was happening. That is why i have a birthmark. Here in our place, pregnant are not allowed to go outside during eclipse because the baby will have birthmarks when it will be borned. How tru is this??

It's an old wives' tale! Completely false! There are many different kinds of birthmarks and they come in many different colours. Some will fade within a few days, months or years of the child's birth; others are permanent. Just a few types may be inherited but, for the most part, they are not genetic and the actual causes are not properly understood. Most of them are completely harmless but, depending on where they are on the body, may be disfiguring. Most can be treated with surgery if that is the case. Just because there is always a very small risk that a particular birthmark may be malignant, it is always a good idea to consult a doctor about a newly discovered birthmark in order to set one's mind at rest.

this is the first time i heard about this... and i don't think that this is true at all... i think it is just a myth... a lot of my friends' baby have birthmarks even my own nephew... but his mother never go out to look at the moon during lunar eclipse... so i think it is just a myth... also, eclipse doesn't happen often as well but so many babies have birthmarks... how can we explain that??? take care and have a nice day...

It's the first time I hear something like this. I don't think it's true at all. I remember when I was a kid and my mother was pregnant (my sister was about to be born), we used to observe a lunar eclipse outside. It was a warm summer night and we decided to make a picnic outside. I don't think my sister has abnormally many birthmarks, so I don't think that lunar eclipse is responsible for birthmarks occurrence.

No birth marks are what you get from your genetic make-up and doesn't involve looking at the moon while pregnant. Although the visuals of the moon looks like a birthmark but its highly irrelevant when you got one.

I think this is just one of the old traditional superstitions that most of our elders might have been practicing when they were younger. But the truth is, anyone can have a birthmark whether a lunar eclipse is present or not during their conception.

This is just an old-wives'-tales. There is no scientific basis on it whatsoever. Birthmarks are just anomalies on the baby's body before and after the baby is born. It don't have anything to do with any eclipses, lunar or solar.

Well, that's a cute story to tell a kid, but it's not true. Birthmarks are non related to eclipses neither to the moon in any way. The origin of birthmarks is something still unknown, so there is a lot of superstitions about it, but they are just that, mere superstitions. Pregnant women should be allowed to do normal life like a non pregnant person freely.

maybe just a fairytale or folklore because i don't have birthmark too. My mom told me when she was pregnant on me she saw the lunar eclipse but she felt that I move inside her womb like a sudden twist! and it really hurts she thought she's going to give birth earlier than expected time for her delivery!
