Spending Christmas 101

I was thinking that Christmas is spent differently by each and everyone of us and this is due to cultural differences (like religion for instance). For the last 3 years i have spent this holiday with my girlfriend at her parents house, and there are differences from what i am used to - like they open the gifts on 24th evening, after coming home from Church. When i was at home, we would go to sleep at night on the 24 and build up anticipation until the 25th morning when we couldn't wake to wake up faster and get to the tree and see what was under it. This year we will be spending Christmas at her parents as well, and we will participate to festive dinners on the 25 and 26th as relatives from their side come to dinner - i must say i do miss my home Christmas as it was once celebrated :) What kind of Christmas are you used to ? Do you celebrate with family, with your loved one only and maybe get dressed as a sexy Santa or elf :) Do you even celebrate Christmas, or another holiday instead ? Wish you all the best for this holiday season even if you don't celebrate, with respect, Alex.

When my ex and I were together we used to go to his family’s house on Christmas Eve and open the gifts then which I found rather odd at the time because in my family it was a ritual which was always done early on the 25th! It used to save arguments because we always did the 24th with his parents and Christmas Day with my folks so it worked well. Hope you had a great Christmas...

Every year we celebrated christmas in my mother's place. All the siblings and family will gather here on 25th December celebrate Christmas as one big family with friends and relatives who come over to join in the celebration. We usually open our gifts after lunch and the children are the most happy people around as they the one who received the most gifts. Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.

My Christmas was like yours and I don't understand why people open gifts on Christmas Eve! My family always went to church on Christmas Eve. On Christmas day we opened gifts and played while Mom made breakfast then went to our grandparents' houses where our aunts, uncles and cousins were visiting. It was a wonderful day! When I had my own family I started baking a birthday cake since my husband wasn't a churchgoer (he is now, with his new wife). My boys knew the reason we celebrated and we always had fun decorating the cake and singing Happy Birthday at dinner on Christmas day.
