I was sitting in our living room reading a book to my children before bed. My son got up to go look for his truck he wanted to take to bed with him. All the sudden we heard these breaks screeching all the way down the hill. My son started crying in complete fear I told him it was ok that it was just a car outside had hit something and I took him to the window with me to see what had happened. The truck then backed up and flew down the hill. He was obviously angry after that. What he had hit was a metal garbage can. I put my son down and went outside and crossed the street and took the garbage can out of the road and threw it in the ditch beside the road and my parents house. I didnt want anyone to come along and wreck their vehicle if they hit it. I went inside and called my parents to see if they were missing a garbage can. It was terribly windy today and my garbage cans almost rolled in the road earlier but I noticed and took them and put them back where they wouldnt blow into the road. My sister was the one who answered the phone she said it was the neighbors garbage can not theirs. My sister said it had been in the road all day. The last time I had been outside was around 1pm. It wasent in the road at that time or I would have moved it. The truck hit the garbage can and totally destroyed it when he hit it. This was at 7:20pm. Now my thinking is if someone saw the garbage can in the road all those hours ago why didnt anyone move it out of the road so it wouldnt cause an accident?

I would have the same question! My next door neighbor works out of state, and he only comes home on weekends. The garbage is collected early Monday morning, and I've grown into the habit of getting his garbage can and tucking it away near his garage door. Sometimes, the garbage collectors just leave it on the street where cars could hit it. When I'm getting my garbage can from the street, I don't mind grabbing another one. Specially if it makes the road safer. I guess some people just don't see it this way.

Thats awesome that you help your neighbor out like that. It only takes a few seconds out of your time you know so I wouldnt mind doing that either. The garbage collectors are rude here they just throw the cans wherever they want denting them and ruining them at times. They have a horrible job but still thats what they are paid for if they dont like it they can find another job.

If I see something out on a quiet country road I will move it so that doesn't happen. On the road going back to my grandparents house I've stopped 5 or 6 times in one trip just picking up turtles and moving them out of harms way. On busier roads it's just not safe to be stopping and risking your car getting torn up or you getting run over.

This road is busy but not like horrible. Its a main road from one town to the next so the traffic can busy but I cross the road all the time with my kids so its not that bad that someone couldnt pull into my driveway which would be off the side of the road and walk to the road and set the can on the side of the road out of the vehicles path. That is so funny that you stop all the time and move turtles out of the road. I do that to. My ex used to get so mad at me but thinking of them getting killed is so sad. One time I heard the loudest popping sound outside my house. It sounded like someone threw a full soda bottle and it exploded. When I went out later I noticed it was a big turtle that had been run over in the road. I felt so bad. I kept thinking if I had been outside a few mintues before that I could have quick moved the poor turtle out of the road and it would still be alive.

I guess as there was heay wind around the garbage can wod have like bee dislocated in a fraction of second and may be it got hit by the truck in as soon as hit was on road probably and i think if people had spoted it out the would have put it back may be.

Well my sister had said that the garbage can had been in the road all day. It couldnt have been there literally all day as I had been outside at 1pm and the can was not hit until 7:30pm or so. But I know she means it was just out there for along time. To me that tells me that plenty of people would have drove past it and not stopped to move it out of the road. To me thats sad.
