A Cheap Buck

MTV Ills - What role in the Amber Portwood issue do you think MTV should play? Does MTV have an obligation to intervene when someone is being beaten in front of their cameras such as Shirley was, or viewing said beating such as Leah was? Do you think that Reality TV is contributing to the ills of society for the sake of making a cheap buck?

Anyone familiar with the MTV Reality Show "Teen Mom" is up to speed with the perils of Amber Portwood. ~ For those who aren't, here is the cheap rundown. Portwood has been filmed beating her on then off again boyfriend Gary Shirley in front of her toddler Leah. Other incidents of abuse have lead Portwood to a felony warrant and possibly three years in jail. ~ Under-aged though she is, there are photographs of Portwood partying, despite being on prescription drugs, a combination that could kill her. ~ What role in all this do you think MTV should play? Does MTV have an obligation to intervene when someone is being beaten in front of their cameras such as Shirley was, or viewing said beating such as Leah was? Do you think that Reality TV is contributing to the ills of society for the sake of making a cheap buck?

Although I am sure MTV is feels that this is also making people aware of wrong doings. I certainly feel they contribute to wrongful things as how on earth does anyone watch this and find it makes for great entertainment. It is beyond me. I am sure they take no liability as the buck is greener to them.

Also, do tell me where is the MUSIC in what was once "music television"? Now we are seeing "reality television" or "exploitation television".

I think if they are video ing a crime they need to report it. It is probably safe to say that it is desensitizing people to the fact that this is abuse and that it is wrong for the child.

They did so again with a teen mom called Jenell. This girl was caught on camera fighting with another girl and had to go to court, and is possibly facing jail.

I have heard of this show. I think that MTV should be held totally responsible. what about the toddler. Is any one watching this that could take control of the situation. This is an example of why domestic violence in society has gotten out of control . some one has an obligation to that child. actually alot of people have an obligation to that child. and no MTV should not be doing shows like this. It is pathetic that you stoop this low to make a dollar.

That kid really had no business in the scene. If MTV felt they just HAD to film it, couldn't they have plucked the baby out of there? Shesh!
