Finding a kitten that has been thrown away and bringing it home

December 29, 2010 12:35pm CST
I was once walking to our house when I met this kitten. By the look of it has been thrown away by its owner. It was inside a small carton box. I took it home and cared for it. It has been six years now and he has grown to be a wonderful cat. Have you the same experience of bringing home a cat that was thrown away by its owner and caring for it? Please tell me your story.

which one do you want? The kitten I found on my doorstep? The kitten I found behind the cinder blocks besides my door? The one that was found wandering around an apartment complex? How about that black and white kitten in my avatar? I didn't actually find him, but the family who did, knew they couldn't take care of a week old kitten, he didn't even have his eyes open yet. I ran right off and got kitten milk replacement and a bottle. He was almost 4 months old in my avatar picture, he's now over 5.

hi goodhunter well when I was a kid on our farm in South Dakota' we found more kittens and puppies lost and bewildered that some towns person had dumped onto our road to our farmhouse.we would feed and care for them then find a farm family who we knew would take good care of them. we kept a collie and I named him rin tin tin after a movie dog. I had that dog for several years then she disappeared and I finally found out that our neighboring farmer shot and killed my dog as he thought the dog was bothering his sheep . This was an out and out lie.I never had another dog til I was twenty.

Hello Hatley, your neighbor was a cruel man ... I hate that kind of people, how can they hurt so easy something alive, something which is not a toy or electronic, it has feelings and it can be our best friend. I love dogs and i can see a lot of them on our streets, most them are hurt by people and i just don't get it how is that possible for us, humans, who are the highest in the evolution to have no respect about the other creatures of the nature.

Despite the fact that we already have four cats to care for (3 were my brother's that he didn't want anymore but we loved them so we kept them) and a 6 month old baby to care for on a limited budget, I have a feeling if my husband and I came across a lonely abandoned kitten we would take it home and adopt it. We're soft-hearted like that.

Hi. I'm a pet lover. Our pets at home aren't the ones that have been bought somewhere but homeless animals we found lost in the streets without someone to feed them. Recently, we had the same experience, My mom and I found a kitten alone without his mother to feed him. So we did the same thing as you. I think our home is closer to being an orphanage for cats and dogs. Lol. But we never regret adopting them. I love animals.

Same kind of thing happened but it was not a kitten...but it was a very cute doggy. Actually he lost his mother and simply was sitting and shivering infront of my hostel. I was returning from my office. and then noticed him while entering to hostel. He was vry very cute...small puppy!!!! I took him to home and took care of him for 7 or 8 days. After that one day when I took him outside in my balcony, noticed that his mother is roaming infront of my hostel. I felt very vey bad...but reurned him to his mother. Felt very happy to see the poor one to get his mother.

I did it once when I was a kid. But unfortunately, the other members of the family doesn't want to keep the kitten. So what they did is they threw away the kitten again while I'm asleep. And when I woke up, and found out that the kitten wasn't there anymore, I cried the whole afternoon.

That was good of you All of my seven cats have either been taken is as strays or have been adopted from a shelter. One was living in a friends greenhouse and I was asked if I could take it since the greenhouse was going to be demolished. It was a small black and white female of indeterminate age and who I've found, has serious mouth problems that will mean that I'll be taking her to the vet soon to see if her problems can be dealt with.

We run a cat and dog shelter, so yes we've had a lot of "found" kittens in the past couple of years. This year alone 45, dumped in our garden!

I love to hear stories of people giving homes to abandoned animals. it sounds so much like what my teen daughter would do. We have rescued more stray cats than you can imagine over the years.

I would never bring a stray cat home because I dislike cats, and I don't think I should live with a being that I dislike. However, even if cats can adapt really well to live in the streets, it's nice if they can find a confortable house to live in, food on a regular basis, etc. Of course it's important to check the animal's health in a vet when you pick a stray animal, as it can have some disease that might be threatening for the new owners too.

My cat named Tigger was only four pounds when we found him. He was deathly ill and tried to crawl under our couch to die. I took his temperature rectally and it read 107 which is very high for a cat. Through the grapevine we learned that the people who had him before fed him table scraps and chocolate then when they moved, they put him outside and tried to run him over with their car. He is very afraid of cars so he is an indoor cat. We took him to the vet and he got iv fluids and seven different meds. He had to be wormed and needed a steroid to make his lungs stronger. Now he is nine years old and a happy kitty. He does have a sensitive stomach and can't eat foods with high ash or dyes in them. Hubby saw him under the neighbors truck, brought him in and he has been here ever since. He loves our son and even used to get in trouble for crawling in his crib to snuggle with him at his feet when our son was a baby.

There are always stray cats scattered outside our house. I adopted once a kitten which I think 3 weeks old. I took care of her until one day, she became somewhat a house raider. She didn't stay in or house anymore. She'll just show off whenever she is hungry. When she finished her food, my neighbors said to me that my cat will enter their house and will find or ask for food (the cats' way).

I have such an experience too. Though, this cat was living on the street where it was tortured by kids. They used to throw rocks at him and lock him in basement of our apartment block. So, we (me and my parents) decided to put a stop to this ugly 'fun' of those mean children. We took him away to live at grandma's house which is about 100 kilometers from the town where we were living. He became curious and successful cat as his offsprings soon flooded the entire village. We know this thanks to the fact that he was the only black and white cat in the village up until the little ones showed up.
