Decorations are down and packed away...the house looks so empty!

When I finally got them all packed up and in the closet I looked over the house and it seems empty. I am thinking when my little granddaughter comes this weekend we might make some Valentines decorations to replace the CHristmas ones. Does your house seem empty now? Are you going to do decorating for Valentines day?

Hi Jillhill, I do have most of my decorations down now except for a few wintery ones which I'll take down probably by Valentines. It's funny but my apartment is done in mainly burgundy and some other bold colors. I collect hearts and have so many in my kitchen that my girls commented that when I decorated for Christmas that it looked like a combination of Christmas and Valentines. I guess I don't have to do too much to decorate for Valentines as it always looks like Heart Day here.

Hiya sid and Jill, I love those fibre optic fairies too and I am trying to get one of these in this House to buy me one. Eventually I will send for one off the Internet I suppose there used to be a lot of them on but now I can´t find many good links of them at all. I would have to send a Money Order too but I will send for one because I love them. They are for all Year round like the Valentines Decorations they don´t go out of Date.

I am going to leave my lights up on my porch. They are all white lights, so it won't really look that bad to use them year-round if I want to turn them on to provide some light when I am sitting out there. The rest has GOT to come down though, because I am tired of looking at it all...

Hi jillhill, I'm a little late in responding because of being so sick however, I'm here now! Hubby and I didn't decorate this year and don't know if we'll ever decorate for the holidays anymore because it's just us, no kids so it's kind of like a waste of time to do all that work for just us two. I used to decorate every year and every holiday but it's gotten to be a real job to get it out and then put all away. Now the Christmas tree is another thing, we'll still do that for a few more years but even that will get to be too much and we'll probably get a smaller tree to use each year. Other than that, naaaaa..... it's just not worth all that work. I'm not being a humbug, just that it's a lot of work. But for those who want to continue doing it, I'll continue to enjoy seeing their displays! lol

I downsized last year....I looked at all my snowmen and thought... I can't do that anymore...so I sold most of them. I even got a smaller tree....and I love it.

No and No. My house was cramped with our Christmas decorations up. We have a tiny little place, and we had to move the love seat to the other side of the room to put the tree in front of the front window.. which meant the toy boxes had to be squished wherever there was room, and we could barely squeeze between the tree and the hallway.. and I could barely see over the sofa while watching TV. We took the tree down the day after Christmas and got the house back to normal!

AH....I can totally understand why you did too!

It wasn't just the lack of space. The kittens loved playing in the tree, and had pretty much destroyed the bottom half of it.. that just made it look awful!

Hiya Jill, Taking my Decorations down on the 6th of January when the Three Kings of Orient finally arrive (grin). They will be down just after Dinner. I have not even thought of Valentine´s Day yet not really. But I bet you and your Granddaughter will make some very fine Cards indeed. I also can´t wait for the Three Kings to arrive and go as it seems so long for them to get here too.

Hiya jill, To tell you the truth right now it´s nearly midnight and I am sort of wishing it was already tomorrow night so I can just sneak a bit of peace and quiet for myself. Yes the The Three Kings tomorrow this is the moment most Spanish Children wait for of any other. A few get Father Christmas but the Three Kings is the mainstay always. I hope it never changes because you should see the processions they have in Madrid and Barcelona. They televise some of it. The things they put together is quite spectacular also. Tomorrow in the Streets of all Cities, Towns and Villages will be the Procession of the Three Kings through the Streets in spite of the Credit Crunch. Most of the Spanish Children will be out in the Streets in spite of the Cold to see "their Kings" as always. The Three Kings throw Sweets to the Children pick up the late letters of "Pedidos" things that are asked for and wave to them as they go around the Streets. The ones here were not that good last Year but I am hoping they will not be so stingy and let the Kids enjoy themselves you are only young once and for the "older Kids" like me too (grin). This is a big favourite with all of all ages so I doubt they will ever get rid of it Heaven forbid. Actually in Spanish they are called "Los Reyes Magos". I love them and Father Christmas too. Here is a link that is about the Procession of The Three Kings in Madrid about two years back now I thought some of it was brilliant. Not an affiliate link to do with this response as you can see. Hope you enjoy it.xxx http://il.youtube.com/watch?v=pOokR4yrtko&feature=related

That sounds like a really cute idea. Hope you have a great time with your granddaughter this weekend. I don't do anything for Valentine's Day anymore since our kids are grown. Only one grandbaby lives in town and she's little so she wouldn't notice.

Actually since I am a clean freak where everything has to have it's place and prefer the "hotel room" type look as I can not stand clutter, I am content when the Christmas decorations come down and are put away. Don't get me wrong. I love Christmas as well as the Christmas lights and shiny pretty decorations. I was home for Christmas and took the decorations down there but now that I am home, I still have lights and decorations up. No tree at my place this year. I am in no hurry to un-decorate my place. Although at Home it was nice because suddenly spaces are clean and tidy, airy and open. I like that! Makes it so much easier to dust, clean, sweep and vacuum. I don' think that we will be doing any Valentine's decorating, no. I do have some beautiful shinny neon pink hearts up from Christmas that will likely stay there. Perhaps they can carry on for Valentines. How's that for dual purpose decorations?

I started this morning when I got up and before the sister got up. She has gone to friends for a few days so I will have to get it done before January 6th all on my own. And I hate doing it aloneall those balls on the tree etc.

I know! Seems like its a bigger task when you are taking it down...well not really if you take care when you put it up! I miss it already!

It's hard to believe what a few decorations will do. they do so much not only for the atmosphere but for the spirit of the holiday as well. Taking down decorations can be a lonely task. the only solace that can be taken is looking forward to the next holiday to decorate.

My kids are grown. I decorated for them and for the parties we used to have. No more. I spend too much time traveling to enjoy them! Maybe when grandkids come along. I will be a dollar store shopper.

I don't know if i'll do any decorations for Valentines day, but, i do now what you mean when you say the house feels so "empty" I was going to take my tree and other decorations down yesterday, but , when i looked at my tree and remembered how long it took to decorate it and how pretty it looks, i just couldn't take it down and decided to leave things alone for the next few days. A home just looks so much brighter and livlier when it's decorated.
