Have you heard the saying,'man proposes God disposes'.It looks very strange and why God should dispose of what we propose. What does it man?.Is it true? if so how far is it true and like that so many doubts arise in my mind. We are all His children and He is our father and creator. He is all mercifull. We pray him and seek His blessings always. So there may not be any truth in this saying. But many people use this often. I am not able to understand. Can any one of you explain what this saying really means...?

God disposes what? Our unwanted wishes. As children (small children)we don't know what is good for us and bad for us. But God only knows what is good for us and bad for us. So he dispossess some of our wishes. This is only my openion.

I also think that way.As children do not know what is good and what is bad for them the parents give them only good things for their children.Similarly as children of God we may ask many things and some of them may not be good for us.But God knows what is good for us and He grants those good things only and not what all we ask.I think that is the meaning of the saying...

Whenever man makes a plan or aims for something he has self interest foremost in his mind. Whenever God plans for something He has everyone's interest in his mind. He helps those who need his help the most and not those who are able to help themselves. If God sees that our plans are going to disrupt his plans and are not in agreement with what he wants he does not allow our plans to succeed. Therefore, this saying is true, "Man proposes and God disposes".

As you rightly said that when a man makes plans he keeps his self at the top forgetting the interests of others but God keeps the interest and welfare of all humanity while approving any plan proposed by man.In this process He may have to reject some plans made by a man.So the saying....God bless you.

To answer your question, it simply means that man can make his plans but God will decide the outcome. This may be based on the scripture Proverbs 16:9 A man's heart deviseth his way; but the Lord directeth his steps. Our fate lies in the hands of God. Even in our prayers, we can ask for what we want but if it's not in God's will for us we do not receive what we ask for. It is always best to pray for God's will to be done. I always pray that I am in His will for whatever I am doing. The bible says, you have not because you ask not. Then it says that we have not because we ask amiss. Meaning we have asked for the wrong thing. If we ask for God's will to be done we will have what He has planned for us. And being the good Father that He is, He would always have only the best in store for us.

Man makes plans thinking that they are all good for him but God knows what is good for him so He won't approve all plans but only those which are good to him. That is why this saying.Secondly God may be prepared to shower many favours but if we ask only some thing He may grant those favours. But by asking God what we want we are limiting his grace. But for our asking He would have given us more favours. Therefore just pray saying"Give me what is good for me.You are the best judge".May God bless you

How can take care of us except God.Those who are now with us and taking care of us may not be there throught till the end.But God will be with us throught our lives to take care of us and guide us from time to time.He is our father, mother, brother and sister and a friend who wants to be with us in thick and thin.So pray God sincerely and what can we give Him when He is there to give us all as evrything belongs to Him.That is what our scriptures say..May God bless you

That is so true, chayapathys. We often limit what blessings God has for us by asking for the wrong things. Sometimes He will say, ok I will give you what you want, just to teach us a lesson. But all the time He will be waiting and ready to catch us when we fall. Then we can give God the glory when He brings us through our difficulties. That's why I always try to pray for His will. As you say, He is the best judge.

I think many people just use this praise because they are fed up with their lives. I mean these people only want to force GOD to give them what they seek of them even though it is not the will of GOD. God on the other hand really wants the best for us. If we ask HIM and He thinks that it will not be bad for us, He will grant our wishes in His right time. On the other hand, if He thinks that what we ask for will not be benificial for us, he will not grant our wishes but he will give us what will be benificial for us. And we must not forget that God is always caring for us. Being alive is a big proof that he really cares for us.

As He is our well wisher He grants what is best for us and as we are ignorant of what is good and what is bad for us we may ask things which are not good for us.So when we ask things which are not good for us He will not give. That is what is man proposes and God disposes. This what you want to say.Am I right. .?
