Well, that is a piece of 'non-news' if ever I saw one! My best guess would be the very severe and unseasonal weather which hit both the Eastern United States and Northern Europe at about the same time in late November last year. Many wildlife populations are much more sensitive to extreme and unseasonable weather conditions than we realise and a cold snap, a heatwave or a drought in the wrong place at the wrong time can wipe out huge numbers of a particular species. This does happen quite regularly (and always has), though not often in such remarkably large numbers and in such a concentration. Fortunately, populations do eventually recover. If, say, 90% of a population is wiped out one year, there are still 10% who survive and carry on to breed. Since there are far fewer, there is usually more of their natural food available and the next few generations will thrive and the population will recover.

By 'non-news', I meant the link, of course. It gives very basic information which has already been published many times and shows no research or attempt to 'inform'. Sadly, this kind of 'news' report is becoming commoner, especially with the increase in Internet usage. I don't in any way mean to lambast you for quoting it! I'm just sad at the general state of the media.

well, I have to say, it's the polutions that ended the animal's life. Just like the extinct of the dinasours. Things happened for a reason.

Good Day! Maybe its because of the bad condition of the Earth now that made those birds and fishes die.

poor animals. we could say that we, the people are at fault. we always think of our industrial advancement and yet we take for granted the natural environment that God has given to us. Thanks to your comment
