Any non mainstream artists I've never heard but are well worth a listen?

Having tired of the TV voting formula I've been listening to music sent to me by family overseas that hasn't made it internationally, yet. Thirsty Merc from Australia are definatly worth having a listen to. Anyone got any other recommendations for bands/singers from around the world that I should check out ? Any genre, just looking for something different

You say any genre, but noone likes all music. I don't want to list a bunch of bands if you probably aren't even going to like them.

That's true, but I don't like all classical music. I don't like all Indy music either. A particular genre doesn't mean I'm necessarily going like it, and besides, I don't have to like it to appreciate it. Restricting suggestions to a type of music I already know is hardly going to stetch my horizons. But - I take your point. How about this, rather than a list of bands, pick one that is unique to your part of the world. Somebody I'm unlikely to hear if I turn the radio on anywhere else in the world. If I like it, I look for more. If I don't, I'll still have experienced something from your corner of the globe.

I listen to music all over the world, but the music I listen to isn't really on the radio at all, anywhere. I guess I will just say OPM because that is what I'm listening to right now.

OPM! Aw, that takes me back to when I worked at McD's! I may have to look for Menace To Sobriety. Somewhere there's a box of CDs from the days before the iPod! Cheers
