First of all, you should know and understand the Guidelines. They tell you many of the types of topics which DON'T make good discussions. Then you should read and know what it says in the FAQs under Discussions and under Earnings (How do I increase my earnings?).
Think about your topic and the way you can best word it. It must actively encourage people to give quality responses and you MUST be prepared to give quality comments in return, otherwise is is NOT a discussion!
'Quality' is being descriptive, relevant and original, amongst other things.
Before you jump in and post, use the MyLot search bar to see if there are any other discussions on the same topic. Not only can you earn from using the search facility but it will also help you to avoid posting duplicate discussions and you might also earn just as much by posting to earlier discussions ... with less effort.

You have given a good guidance. But I see a lot of mylotters start discussions on topics that do not prompt any comments most of the time. You are very correct in saying a discussion means there needs to be a to and fro exchange of views and also make other mylotters reading it worthwhile to join in.

A large proportion of those 'discussions' will get deleted (and nobody will earn anything from starting or participating in them). People who don't comment on their discussions are missing out on the whole concept of MyLot and on the chance to earn more from their discussions, no matter how many responses they get.

I don't have an answer to that, robingrg64. I guess if there was one, MyLot would instantly be a better site. People come here with all sorts of misconceptions and if only they would (or could?) read, they might understand better ... perhaps!
