How much time do you wait before selecting a best response?

Best response - Best response For any discussion on mylot

I have been wondering about this ever since I got bat at myLot and got enough responses in my first comeback discussion. How much time should one wait before handing out a best response ? I am not just sure on this. Once I feel I have enough responses in the discussions and some good ones too, I feel I should select a best response, but on another thought I feel that there might be some more responses on the way. So in a way that will be unfair to them. One more question: Does the best response has any other meaning apart from being the best response to one discussion? This question might have been asked before but I couldn't find any relevant discussion in my search or else I wouldn't have posted this. How much time do you wait before selecting a best response?

Hi kingatul, It all depends on what the discussion is all about. If you're asking a question about something you want to make sure you receive as many responses as possible. I usually don't start too many discussions, just usually respond to them. For the discussions I have started, I usually give it about 2 weeks or so to give everyone a chance to respond. Unfortunately, if you pick the BR too soon, there are alot of people that won't even respond to your discussion because their only hope is to be picked for BR...so sad. I'm here for fun and to make friends, and not for anything else. I've seen BR's picked the same day and that kind of kills the discussion for further responses, so I'd give it a bit of time, there is no rush to pick and about 2 weeks is an appropriate time to wait, at least in my opinion.

Hello Kingatul, i don't wait so much for picking best response. Long ago i forgot about that option and i had around 3 or 4 pages with unresolved discussions. I don't want to make that kind of delay, because for me best response is one gift from the giver to the receiver, so lately i started to do it impulsive. Sometimes when i read someone's opinion i know that's the best answer to my question. When i post after the responder i explain why i picked exactly his answer. Middle time for me is a week. I know that many people can respond after him, i know that some of them may give something more useful, but for me best response is kind of appreciation, it doesn't affect our earnings, it's one more way for me to say - thank you.

It is up to you to decide the best response anytime. According to me, I will select the best response after my discussion was posted one week later. I like to give enough time for people to share their views. In my opinion, it is not very fair to mark the best response so early. But if I am very busy, sometimes it may be delayed. However, I won't choose the best response earlier anyway. I love China

Hi kingtagul I make it sure first that all responses are in.Sometimes it took me a week before giving the best response.and i don't based it on the length of the response.i based it on the content and the quality of the response.there are some members who gave best response to their friends, which i think sounds unfair for those members who exerted their effort in responding to the discussion.most of my friends respond to my discussion, i don't give them best response unless their response deserve to be mark as best response. Best response actually has a bearing in the star rating.so if you will receive a best response from time to time, you will get a good star rating.happy mylotting!

Hi Kingatul, Initially when I started out here, it was like a day or two before I did the BR Selection. Now I wait for 2 weeks before marking/selecting it. I had a similar discussion here http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2441694.aspx Maybe that can help you have a better idea Cheers, theSids.

Your discussion had really nice points and was quite helpful thesids. I always have been confused when to select a best response and what effect it has for the user who receives it. But most of my doubts are now cleared.

Hi there kingatul!!!! Here in mylot I am actually waiting for a week to pass before choosing the best response.I think this is an enough time for me to decide weather the answers i received are enough to answer my query. I am not saying that we should all wait for a week to pass to choose the best response, we all have different views and sometimes it takes a longer time for us before we can even choose. There are answers that are against our views and some that are not.We need to consider many things before choosing the best response that is why I can say that there is no definite length in waiting when to choose the best response.

Personally I think there is never a right time or a wrong time depending on the type of responses one does get back from their discussions as well. I know I have started New discussions and will choose a Best Response within that day or two, where others I started a long time ago I have yet to choose. For me it always about timing and who really seems to spark something worth choosing that one as well.

Yes I also thought that way but it happened so that after I selected a best response I got an even better one. I think one should wait for a certain number of responses before selecting the best one.

I keep seeing peoples discussions that they have chosen the best response before even 2 days had past. To me thats to soon. I try to wait about a month before I leave a best response so it gives more people time to comment. I also do not choose a best response unless my discussion has gotten 5 or more comments. I mean if I only get one response of course that response is the best lol but it just doesnt make any sense to choose a best response if there isnt more then a few to choose from. I went through my unresolved discussions the other day I went through about 15 pages and left best responses for every page over page 5 that had more then 5 comments on each of my discussions. It took a few hours but I think people deserve to get the best response and I never used to take the time to choose them. A few members laughed and said thanks for choosing mine as the best response 4 years later lol.

on one of the discussions yesterday, I found the BR was already marked within 3 hours and it had just 4 responses by the time I landed on that - Wonder why the one who started was in such a haste... The question too was not something that had an emergency kind of thing

I like to give an appropriate amount of time to a discussion before choosing a best response. You never know when that one response will jump out and grab you. I usually wait until the end of the month and decide which response hits me.

I had to first thank you for bringing this topic to my attention. I really never realized that one can actually mark a best response. I will begin using that option in the future. I think that I would probably do it within 48 hours.

I haven't been here for awhile, so I haven't really got the time to give the BRs. But I started clearing them yesterday. I still got one page left in my unresolved discussions. I usually give myself a week before I give it out or when I feel that there are no more responses to my discussions. Even if get one response and it is sitting there for so long in my unresolved discussion, I still give the BR. At least, there is one kind soul who noticed my discussion and has given me his valuable time to participate.

I usually wait two to three days. It could be quite an unnecessary if I marked the first response as the best. Honestly, I did not choose any best response in most of my discussions. For me it depends on the need of the answer and the importance.

Hello .... wait about 2-3 days it's clear that not getting any answer because then everyone is caught by the new talks and rarely get to answer the question earlier in May,now depends on how many answers you get, if I only have one, wait a little longer!Have a nice day!

Usually, I wait a week or after there are at least eight people responding, whichever happens first. Sometimes--though--an answer just strikes me as 'exactly the direction the discussion should go,' and I select that one. I DO wish--however--that we could un-select a previously-selected response if a later one comes up that proves to be 'better'!

it depends on. sometimes someone just touches me with their response and i know right away that that is the best response. then there are those post where i need to let alot of people respond before i can feel out what is going on with the responses. then every other month i go to my topics that don't have a best response yet and make sure i give one out

I usually wait a week or a little more before i choose a BR.but, it also depends on how many responses i've received.if it's just a few i might wait a little longer, just to see if anyone else might better deserve the best response.it's much easier to choose one when you have a lot of responses and have waited at least a week before choosing one, or when you feel absolutely sure the discussion probably won't be receving any more comments.
