Eating horse meat

Yes, there are people out there who eat horse meat (not me!). I'm not at all curious what it actually tastes like and I don't want to think about it. For me, horses are pets and farm helpers --- certainly not food! Yes, there are people who treat chickens and pigs as pets too, but I just can't fathom eating a horse. I suddenly remember this particularly gruesome scene from the TV show, "The Walking Dead". Aw, the horror, the horror of it all! What do you think? Would you try eating horse meat?

Sure, it's meat. Compared to some of the stuff I've eaten it's rather normal. I've had squid, seagull, porcupine, etc. Your letting your "horses are pets" idea limit your thinking. It can be both.

Squid is pretty normal fare here in the Philippines. In fact, people here eat grasshoppers, large red ants, monitor lizards, etc. I just can't wrap my head around horses getting eaten 'tis all. I am also against people who eat dogs. And from where I'm from, there are still people who eat dogs. Yes it is a culture thing and yes, they can do whatever they want so as long as they don't violate the rights of others but... I just find it a little bit cruel. OK, not a little bit. A LOT.

I agree with you uath. I'd just draw the line at eating insects. Thats a bit gross. It is the same with dogs as with horses. I watched a documentary about a dog farm in an eastern country, where the owners had 'farmed dogs' as well as pet dogs. You cant really discriminate against eating a meat because it is sometimes kept as a pet. I had pet pygmy goats when I was little because I am scared of dogs. I used to take them for walks! But I'd still eat goat's meat if I didnt think it wasnt so tough. As long as the animal being killed for its meat is killed humanely, I dont have a problem, and here in the UK, the killing of animals for meat is very strictly regulated.

When I went to France when I was 14, the waitress gave me a 'ham' sandwich. She told me at the time that it was beef. It did not really taste like beef. When she came back, she laughed at me and told me that it was horse meat. This is one of the many reasons why I do not feel that I can trust French people. It certainly wasnt beef though, and I would not have eaten it if it was horse, which was probably why she told me initially that it was beef. I felt rather disgusted after that experience. Everything else that I ate whilst I was over there came from a convenience store at the corner of the street that sold English food, with English labeling on.

Oh you've been to France. Have you tried escargot and frogs legs as well? Oh, and rabbit? Those are pretty exotic food, if you ask me but it's just ordinary meals for French people.

I know I went to France, but I'm not that insane I did have Kangaroo a few years back on Valentines day though. It was quite horrible because it was rump, which is kind of a shame because I'm told that kangaroo steaks are lovely. I'd like to try buffalo. I've not had that before.

I think that I would be willing to try horse meat if I was hungry enough. That means that it wouldn't be something that I would do if there was some kind of other alternative. However, if I was starving and I had to choose between perishing or sacrificing a horse, I would sacrifice the horse to make sure that I was able to survive. The reason for that is that if there is something around that could be used as food there would be no reason to perish.

for some eating meat from different kind of animals are normal. Perhaps horse too. It would taste more like beef or goat because it feeds on grass. But as far as animal rights is concern, it may be cruel to kill a horse and just feed on it. Like on dogs or cats, it would be a crime or cruelty on them.

I have never eaten horse meat and it does not particular appeal to me, but I would consider the act as cruel in any way. If it qualifies as cruel to kill a horse or any other creature for food, then the same should apply to all animals. How can it be cruel to eat a horse but not cruel to eat a sheep or a pig?

I feel ya, I can't eat a pet. "I named you! I can't eat you..." lol I'm not saying It's gross or immoral, I mean idk who those people who eat em are. Either way horses could b delicious idk either. Would I eat horse meat. No way man, i had a horse before when I was a kid. A goat? I had 1 too but now some "Birria" wouldn't be the same as horse meat. Same with dogs man, some people eat dogs, ew.

I can understand your feelings towards eating a horse, but to be fair it is only because the practice does not exist in your community. Our standards of food are normally a result of what we are accustomed to, so horse meat sounds very unappealing to many people. However, people have no qualms about eating a pig, which certainly looks far less appetising than a horse.

I am quite adventurous when it comes to food and I do have the desire to try exotic foods. However, I do have my limits and horsemeat is one of them. There are places in this country where they do see horsemeat as something of a delicacy. I dont know the dishes and I really dont wanna know. I also dont think that Ill ever want to try horsemeat no matter how delicious they say it might taste like. I also see horses as pets and not as food. That might be stereotypical but that's just how I see things.
