OFW means Overseas Filipino Workers, right? For me, the meaning is Online Filipino Workers (OFW). I observed lately, that online jobs were in demands here in the Philippines including call center agents. What can you say about it and give me your reason/s?

I have nothing against with the call center agents but call center agents are only required to speak English fluently and to suffer from unusual working hours for work. Though they haven't finished with a degree, they're paid well. Newly grads suffer from unemployment in the country and most of them weren't even qualified. Online jobs, for me, are the easiest means of getting paid. It doesn't require us to get some Visa and flew from other parts of the globe. Online jobs are helpful because for one, it wouldn't bloom if one doesn't gain benefits and it's a job that appreciates every individual's skills without the need of important papers.

I saw my friend last time who works in a call center. She was paid 10,000Php plus incentives if she performs well. By next semester, she's planning to go back to school. I guess she already save a lot of money.

Clearly answered by you eLsMarie. Call center job needs a standard in speaking English and they're paid handsomely. I've got your point, at least online jobs have a freedom to choose whether you work or not. without any qualms.

I'm not sure whether there are more online filipino workers than overseas filipino workers these days, but I think that the business process outsourcing industry as well as other online companies have created many jobs for Filipinos who would've otherwise left the country for greener pastures. My mother who was an OFW for most of her life has returned to the country and is now a Technical Support Representative in one of the country's leading call center companies. Both my brothers have been in the call center industry for more than six years, as well as their wives. I, on the other hand, am an online English teacher and have been so four more than four years. I teach English online to students who are in Korea. We often joke that we are Familia Call Center. I think that the online jobs have been very helpful to many and I think many will agree when I say that these jobs are financially rewarding. From what I heard, call center salaries are better than those of nurses, flight attendants, school teachers, and other office workers.

Those homebased jobs are cool, too. All the members of my family go to work in offices but my boyfriend is a homebased customer service representative so he gets up just 30 minutes before his shift starts and takes calls in his boxer shorts.

Kat my friend, I'm happy to know that your family worked in an online company. Well, I observed that most Filipinos worked home-based as online workers. I'm happy for them that they can support their family in a good way. Unlike some Filipinos are getting certain jobs that's unlawful and indecent. I salute you for that and thank you so much!

Oh yeah.. I love the new abbreviation. I think many Filipinos are OFw since it's quite hard to find a job here in the Philippines and since lots of Filipinos have access o computers they use it to earn money instead.

I thing online filipino workers (OFW), is a good alternative to Filipinos going overseas to work. Perhaps with the globalization of the technology, the economy of low income countries like Philippines can improve and create more jobs close to family and friends and minimize the need to leave the country to work.

One reason, we don't have enough opportunities here so we have to go out and look for a better place to work where one can earn enough to sustain and give a family a decent life. Online jobs flood the Philippines because Filipinos are patience, skillful and ready to do things ask of them. Every opportunity that comes our way, we must grab in order to survive and try to lessen the number of Filipinos going hungry.

That's true Edna, we have to find another way to fulfill our dreams. So, lots of Filipinos went abroad to work. Cheers Ms. Edna.

Hi there Sir FX! I like your meaning of OFW,lol! I do believe in what you have said that online jobs are "in" to filipinos these days especially call center jobs. Since online works are in trend, filipinos are sure to go with the flow. As we all know, majority of us are unemployed in our country. Call center jobs are their chances for it is now in demand and what's best about it is it offers a big compensation to workers. As for online works at home,it's the best alternative for moms like me who can also earn at home.

Nobody wants to leave the country. but they don't have a choice, it's just there are no opportunities here. Even if there was something, it's not enough for their families, i think you should consider lucky that filipinos have mostly adopt to their surroundings overseas despite of the abuses that they experience first.

Yes, that's true Rebelotter. Filipinos have a courage to work abroad even though their lives are in danger because of they want to help their family here in the Philippines. Thank you.

Hmm .. you say online jobs like call centers were in demand right now . Isn't it good news? That means more jobs, more Filipinos can stay here for good, instead of going abroad with no secure job and bet their lives on the line there . Yeah ,I still believe majority of Filipinos abroad are OFWs , if not , immigrants . Our countrymen are scattered throughout the world with almost the same purpose , to work. You can see them everywhere .

For call center agents, I think they are enjoying their lives because of good opportunity here in the Philippines. But, what about Filipinos that can't be accepted in the call center because they don't have enough abilities and skills to work at the call center? I agree with you that every place in the whole world there's an OFW's. Thank you.
