How old are you at myLot ?

Years ago, I learned that asking her age to a woman was not polite when she was more than 25 years old. In real life, if a woman does not look very young, don't take the risk to be impolite ! Passed 25 years, a lady is always 20 years old... and a few weeks more. And it is not cheating. Some persons are always 20 years old in their mind, and I have fabulous friends here : a few days ago, I asked for help at myLot and got a kind and beautiful response of one of the older mylotters. Honestly speaking, her response is not the best response, but a response coming from the heart. One less than 25 years friend left myLot yesterday, and I was sad for... It is too personal, I will not tell you ! We don't always see the difference between a "real" world and a "virtual" world like myLot. For myself, the main difference is that the "age" does not count so much online than in real life. Some friends, older than me on their ID, are younger in their mind. Is age difference important for you in myLot ? Are you hiding your age -- if yes, why -- ?

I no longer show my age in my profile because I don't believe that age matters one jot on a discussion board like this. Maturity is fairly independent of age and I have seen youngsters with a very mature attitude and others, who according to their age should know better, behaving in a very immature way. I don't really have a problem with revealing to those that ask that I am past the allotted life span, according to the Bible. Perhaps I am living on borrowed time.

I am really pleased to read a response from you here : I am impressed. Since I have been here, I received a few responses from you and I have read others. You are a model for me at myLot, and I never dared to do a friend request. I have to confess you why : your responses are so good that... it is impossible for me. I am doing it today and I hope to be agreed.

Initially when I signed up to myLot I had no idea what I was signing up for. Therefore, my intention was to hide as much as I was not sure if I would be harmed via fraud and or God knows what. It took me two months to actually dive in, now that I am in I find that myLot is no different then the great many people who surround me off-line. I do not reveal my age as I am one who has issues with many seeking whatever instead of seeing me for me. I do not post pictures of me and or avatars of me, for the same reason, I do not want googly eyes and or false intentions. In the real world many way, way younger mistaken me simply for my looks. Therefore when I come on here I find sincerity to be of up most, so when you read what I write, I want you to know me for me and not for what I look, like. My avatars are very deceiving and I appreciate it that way, I want all to know me/attract, for me and not for what I look like. I do not list my birthday and or age as I work on hundreds of sites and the last thing I need is for fraud and or identity to be stolen.

hi hardworkinggurl what I see when I read your discussions is a person who is always willing to help others and age is never even a thought with me.I am like that too I want to be known for me and not for my age or looks either. I have always applauded your willingness to help other mylotters newcomers or oldies like myself.

HWG - I am similar to you. I am a private person, although I speak honestly when I answer people. The way that I am here is the way that I am off-line - I do not put on or take off a mask when I sit down at or get up from the computer. Unfortunately, I also get judged by my looks and not necessarily my abilities or what I am saying, so it is nice to be able to be here and have people respond to me merely for my words and not any physical attributes that I may or may not have.

Ms. Hatley, I would have never known your age had you not mentioned in a discussion once, by then you and I have interacted hundreds of times, and it would never have been an issue. You type from the heart Ms. Hatley and I so love that of you. You came to my rescue when I was a newbie and ready to give up with life. You informed me of all your issues without holding back and you inspired me to continue who I was and look forward to better days. It was the inspiration that keeps me helping every where and any where regardless of who, what and where they come from.

I have my age on my profile for a very important reason. If my age was not visible then I would have to put something to the lines of 'hey I'm a grandma' because it would not be fair to allow others to presume that I am not that age. Age is just a number. There are no rules as to how one should behave or feel at a certain age and because of this I do and say what I feel like doing and saying but I feel that it is my responsability to inform others that I am already 'as old as that' so that they do not get ideas in their head that they really didn't ought to Of course if they then get them anyway well that is up to them as no-one should tell them what they can and cannot do at their age - but at least they were warned

I'm hiding my age coz ........ I do not want my responses to be brushed aside based on my age factor! I do visit new profile pages daily not for their age though --- one profile update which got struck in my mind is "I'm a pakistani...and i'm no terrorist" That mylotter is few months old in here ... how sad to come up with an update as such.

"I do not want my responses to be brushed aside based on my age factor" It is sad that you feel this way, Sunny. Unfortunately, I am beginning to realize that some people really do base what a person says or does or how they feel they are or are not allowed to act on their age. That is not right, especially when people have different experiences and learn at different rates, so everybody can have valuable input and insights regardless of age.

I feel the same as you - I don't want to be "just a number". I hear many people say that twenty is too young to get married, settle down and start a family. Then I hear other people say that thirty is too old to do these things. People have different views ... perhaps it is a cultural thing or just an individual thing ... but I think that people should do what they feel is right when they feel it is the right time to do it. If you try to rush things, then it might not have a good ending. Similarly, if you wait too long or do not do something simply because someone else said that you were not at the right age, then you might miss out on the best experiences of your life.

Hi topffer, First I am not a lady... and this might be one reason. If you hopped on to my profile, you would see my age is 36 in real world and 13 months in mylot world. I love the 13 months of me here more than the 36 years of real world... No it is not that I am young here and so I like it, it is because I can play and re-live my childhood here. If you scrolled my discussions you would have ample proof of what I say... I am happy to be the 13 months here as I can play innocent, child, confused and even insane me...

Pls let me know what this meant because at the moment I interpret it as - "I experiment a lot" going by my discussions. I believe MyLot is my family and that is how I treat it and its members... They are all my family members... some my parent's age, some my grandparents age, many my age, many younger... And I feel blessed to be in their company

Wow if you will realized the post according to the title you will be mislead. Better I read the post 2 times. I understand what's all about. I thought you are asking how many years I am here in myLot. Anyway, I observed also that the age will become old but the mind still young. Some individual when you saw their faces we can call them old already but they are still acting like teenager which are common nowadays. For me, age doesn't matter, as long as they are friendly, all of them are welcome to be my friends

"Some individual when you saw their faces we can call them old already but they are still acting like teenager" There have been a few people that I have seen and thought that they were quite a bit older but just acting young. When I came to know their real age, however, I was surprised to find out that they really were young (early twenties). Some people wrinkle sooner than others, especially the ones that use artificial tanning salons it seems. Also, people turn gray prematurely or start to go bald in their late teens (usually guys but it can also happen to girls), and that tends to make them look older than they are. Knowing their age was not what I originally thought it was did not change how we interacted, though. "I agree that age does not matter in friendship" If it does not matter in friendship, then when does it matter? Does it matter when you are romantically involved with someone? Don't the best relationships combine friendship and physical attraction? Therefore age really doesn't matter much in interpersonal relationships, except of course if it is a child and adult kind of relationship.

I think that a difference of ten years does not matter in a couple. More is difficult, but I know that some couples are in love and happy with a great difference -- 30 years or more --. Most of the time I think that these relationships become difficult with the time. I can be physically attracted by young students and joke with them, but I don't want to begin at 50 years a relationship with a 20 years old girl : I keep my distance and stay of my side of the border.

Hello julyteen ! Based only on the title this would have been a poll type discussion and it is forbidden by the guidelines, as you already know. But those who are saying that many members are reading only the title are liars : quite all responders have responded to the discussion . Your mental age can be old or young, but don't rely completely on your physical age, and I agree that age does not matter in friendship .

hi topffer I am going on my fourth year here at mylot as I was off for 11 months due to a whole ton of huge problems. but am back now with my trusty computer and fairly new monitor. I did not put my age at first because no one really loves elderly people much here in the US but finally after an irate poster accused me of lying about my age I posted my age . I am elderly and so what,my mind is clear and not senile. I am 84 going on 85 and age I cannot help. I feel a whole lot younger and thats all that counts anyway. Age here is not important as we here are flexible and making friends here and sharing and caring are more important than our respective ages.I have friends here ranging in all ages and all I care about are the people themselves, not their ages.

I have seen so much responses or comments from you Ms. Hatley, so kind and so young, that I could not believe that you were so old in real life. You are a sort of young knight wearing a bright armor here, always helpful. Hardworkinggurl says it better than I can do : you are "a person with a loving and helpful heart", and age has nothing to do here.

I want to confirm to Ms. Hatley that her age has nothing to do with the fact that she is a person with a loving and helpful heart. One regardless of her age we should all respect as she enters discussions simply to shed cheer, care and assist where ever she can. We all love her for that, not for her age, although I have to say she is speedier and has most energy than way more younger people I know.

You are not old, so why do you say that age counts more in the off-line world than on-line? Have you had experiences that have made you think this way? I would not think that age would be much of a factor in either the off-line world or on-line, especially for a guy. The reason that I say "especially for a guy" is that I have been reading on here a lot lately that women over the age of thirty-five or forty are "past their expiration date" so to speak, although this is definitely news to me. Perhaps that is why women are so hesitant to state their age, because if men do not know that they have "expired" and these men are interested in them, then why should it change if these men know their age? Are they not the same person that they were when these men thought they were younger?

And well speaking on behalf of women and all women who hide their age are so justified!!! Sorry Sir Top!! But i beg to differ!! Have you seen the number of products out there enticing people to be young, feel young, look young etc etc.. Not to mention the interesting prospects awaiting you when the softer gender is so Young!!! Parade all the gorgeous young things!! Hold one beauty pageant after another!!! And people still wonder why we hid our age!!!

"I am not old enough to be able to do what i want and this is speaking professionally" The age bias does not just go towards people that are considered old. I was younger than you when I started working in the field that I had chosen, and most of the people that held similar positions were older than me. I was looked down upon by quite a few people at first, and many tried to suggest that I had gotten my job for reasons other than my qualifications, although over time they realized that was not true. Still, when asked about my age, I hesitated to tell people, because I was afraid of what their reaction would be.

People are jealous purple. I had the same experience, and you would not believe what I heard about how I had my first job, even if I had the qualification to get it and was proving every day that I was deserving it... At 26 you are not so old mystical : you will have to wait to be elected as a senator . It is great when you are able to do what you want in your life. I think I have always do like this, and I am old enough now to chose what I want to do. Youthism is everywhere in western culture today. I have not a particular cult for youth or old, and I think that traditional societies, keeping a place for everybody are better.

Its very hard to prove yourself in the world and this amazes me! Half of my immediate seniors have their priorities all muddled up, and its thus not so difficult to show one is so much better at doing job than them but because if your immediate superiors are inefficient than so are their seniors and there is no way in hell you can enter this system and get away with doing a good job!! Thus the maturity in age and i guess all the necessary qualifications alongside to enter at the top and get the hierarchy into shape!! Unbelievable! To do some good in this world you will be facing a fierce opposition!!

Hi,topffer! Age difference is not important for me at Mylot at all.I mean, why should it be important? We are here because we share our problems and thoughts with each other. Some wise people doesn't have to be old and some old ones have better advice to offer. And as you said, age doesn't count so much online and mental age is more important. For me,even age in real world is not that important. In my school, there is one foreign teacher well above 60,and he is just so funny and he make many friends with us students.I don't mind others asking my age at all,as long as they have no offense.Maybe I am saying that because I'm just 20.And I always believe that sometimes soul mates can be the ones who have a large age gap.Again, the thoughts are the things that count. Have a nice day!

Hello babyanna, You have a nice smiling avatar, and your response is also smiling. I think it is more rare to make true friends with a great age difference in real life : is your foreign funny teacher a true friend ? I am not sure. But it is true that you see some happy couples with large age difference between husband and wife. Online the age difference tends to difference, and, like you are saying, the thoughts are the more important. At least, it is what I have noticed at myLot. By the way, I am also 20... in my head. Have a nice day too babyanna.

I will not hide my age here in mylot or anywhere else, at the end of the day it is my age and that cannot be changed. I like to respond to discussions in different ways. There can be from the mind, or from the heart or even from both. I would like to hope that i do respond well to peoples discussions. I maybe 34 years old and to some that isn't old but i do have a good head on my shoulders and i always like to try and think about how to respond to a discussion, but for sure even people older than me can still be very young in their mind and in their ways. But this is what makes us us.

For me, age is not that important. What is more important is how you deal with other people. There many old people who did not learn anything in life and still as immature as a kid. There also young people who know how to treat other people with respect.

Having some fun is not forbidden, and a good thing in life : it is proved that people who are never smiling or laughing are dying younger... Frankly, I don't like when a teen seems to be enough old to take an early retirement . Treating others with respect should be a rule for everybody. It is already in the guidelines : DON'T "Post to “flame” other users! Being mean to others is just not fun. Anything derogatory that is directed at a myLot user is strictly prohibited. Just be nice and have fun!" Happy myLotting !

Well, it is OK to be immature sometimes. I also do that some of the time. But there are people who act immature and throw tantrums as if they are some spoiled brat. Thank you Topffer. God bless you and Happy Mylotting too.
