I am a roman catholic and my girlfriend is protestant. I'm a bit concerned with the difference in religion. Honestly I am not aware of the differences between the two religions. I'm hoping and praying that it would not be an obstacle in our relationship.

hi. I don't think there's a big difference since Protestants profess the same beliefs as that of Roman Catholics. But I think one difference concerns the Virgin Mary. We Catholics elevated the Virgin Mother to sainthood and that we could course our prayers through her. I don't think the Protestants did the same. I also don't see anything wrong with you having a Protestant girlfriend. I have lots of friends who are in the same situation. But I'm not too sure if there would be obstacles when marriage comes into the picture.

Thanks! I do hope there will be no obstacles. But we have no plans of marriage yet.

Hello zenk. Actually there is a big difference between Catholics and protestants. You pray to God through Mary the mother of Jesus. We pray directly to God the father. You confess your sins to a priest and we confess directly to God. You have the Pope as the head of your church. We have Jesus as the head of our church. Your church believe in infant baptism and most protestant church believe in waiting until the person understands what baptism is all about. Many Protestants believe in immersion not sprinkling when baptizing. There are more but these are some of the main ones. These may or may not be important to you or your girlfriend. You need to discuss these and any other differences to see What you or she is willing to give up.
