Ajit's issue later in his career was that he was being erratic rather than being consistent, though his age was on his side, Dhoni probably thought that he was old and did not favor him over other bowlers...the other issue was his economy rate as he would go for plenty of runs...but is this the problem only with Ajit...i doubt, look at recent indian bowler all of them have a economy over 5 barring zaheer and harbhajan...so his economy is as good as any other fast bowler...his pace is also better then many of them...some of his positives: 1. Good fielder 2. wicket taking bowler 3. very fit 4. can bat unlike other bowlers 5. very agile 6.has a strong arm 7. has one of the better averages with the bowl 8.potential allrounder(if at all) negatives: 1. high economy(like others) 2.not consistent(like others), infact everyone experiences up&down form in their career(Ajit is no exception)3....don't know

you forgot 2 other things about agarkar. he can bowl slow deliveries quite well and can bowl 6 good yorkers in an over. a match winner. may be you should have tried some stunt to catch media's attention.

ha . A Agarkar fan. well its simple. he got wickets more regularly than any of our pacers. he had the strongest throwing arm in the indian squad for the past 3 decades. he can hit big ones. the thing is people expected him to get wickets in every match he played and probably hit 30-40 runs in every game he bats. they pretty much wanted him to turn as the new kapil dev. he tried but seemed not enough for the people so he is playing domestic cricket. incase you are not satisfied. lets compare him with the present spearhead zaheer and the legendary Kapil dev agarkar's bowling average is 27.85 while zaheer is 29.42 and kapil 27.45. even better was kapil took 225 matches to take 253 wickets. zaheer took 230 matches for 247 wickets but agarkar overtook both of them by taking 288 wickets in just 191 matches. isn't he our best bowler of the decade?

Great statistics stardust. I am a fan of Agarkar but I never knew about his statistics you have provided, which is better than not only that of Zaheer but even that of legendary Kapil Dev. Actually Agarkar was in good books of selectors and his fans until he virtually gave away a match to Pakistan in last T-20 world cup if I am not wrong. Please correct me if I am wrong.

thanks for notifying MSD. actually he believed 2 matches in that world cup and went 10 an over .infact he was part of the T20 international squad only for matches. even more shocking is what people say the same thing about agarkar. he gives away runs.he gives away runs. when i checked it now, during his last ODI series against england,he went over 6 an over but before that series, for almost a year and half, his economy was under 5 most of the time. taking out a consistent performer based on one bad series?

Lets be realistic, despite his heroics & impressive statistics Agarkar cannot make it to the Indian Team now. Most discussions have ignored his pathetic performance in IPL & very average seasons in ranji trophy. Yes was a terrific swing bowler at his peak & was was dealt with rather unjustly by the selectors. But then so has the case been with many other talented Indian players. Let us remember Agarkar for the good moments he has given to Indian Cricket fans & close it at that. Any team has to look at the future. Domestic cricket has thrown up so much exciting fast bowling talent, many bowlers seem much more impressive than Ishant. Indian can soon expect some really fine pace bowlers soon from Karnataka & gujarat.

Ya I too have to agree that Agarkar is one of the finest all-rounders Indian team have ever witnessed. He also holds the record of fastest Indian to take first 50 wickets in just 23 matches. It's a truth that he give away runs very easily but at the same time ho took wickets a lot.Remember that in ODIs it is wickets all that matters and not the runs.If you are able to take wickets at quick intervals then definitely you can stop the run flow, and I am sure Agarkar was very good at doing this.Even doing all these I too can't understand why he is not coming into the selector's mind?

Agarkar was such a good player. His batting was actually entertaining and he immediately gained the tag of a pinch hitter. I still remember the innings when he scored 95 against West Indies in an ODI. Bad that he got out of the team. Very bad if poor performance was not the reason.

hello karthiaa.. I think his performance are now past stories... Have you seen him at the last IPL? He was playing for KKR? If you have seen that,I think this kind of question will not arise in your head. Just look at his economy rate and last 2years performance you will understand why he is out of the team for so long.
