Do you think there's Gap and Discrimination in MYLOT???

February 3, 2011 12:25pm CST
Oh, some are helping here but i couldn't deny having this perception that if you have more number of post, they will reply to you more but if not...you can just have to eat More Rice to be popular.. as for New ones or low number post and low star ranking. do you ever feel discriminate in some way? explain.

Some of us don't notice stars and numbers. We notice what is in the topic and whether the user who started it gets bak to comment with us. It makes no difference at all to me who started teh topic. I go and join in wherever I see something interesting. One day it might be a fun topic and the next something more serious. Who posted it does not matter at all.

Hi RebeLotter, Not sure if this helps but - First is there are quite a lot of posts daily and so many categories here. You are shown only the ones from your interests and your friends... unless anything reaches the top or towards the TOP Discussion Section. Initially to get noticed, you have either to post in interests in quite popular Categories or to participate on discussions. Get into that and rest would follow... nothing of rocket science here... simple placement of things and putting quality discussions. Had it not been that way, you would never have found so many responses (some middle lever and sub-juniors (like me too))here Cheers, theSids

There is another tab which shows all of the activity taking place. If you go to the 'recent' tab you will see the discussions which have received the latest activity. It could be a new topic, a response or a comment on an older one but whatever it is, it will show up there. I use that tab a lot.

Hi mysdianait, And I always thought it was about the recently started discussions only... a new learning for the day for sure.... And now I know the secret of how you keep an eye on almost everything happening here at MyLot

The recently started topics appear under the 'new' tab. I know it all seems complicated but once you get the hang of it and realise the logic behind it too, it makes sense - and making sense on here makes cents!

No my dear friend RebeLotter, I am afraid that you are misunderstanding the members on this site! I have seen many sites and members there too!Personally I feel that Myloters are very co operative and have concern for fellow Mylotter! Many a times we may not get good response! There are various reasons for this! Like posting a discussion at a wrong time of the day! If you post a discussion when most of the people are working in their offices there are every chances that you may not get good responses for your discussions as most of the Mylotters are working lot! Again posting on wrong days , like I feel it is difficult to get responses to the discussions posted on weekends as people are having the mood to relax and you may end up with less responses. Similarly posting a discussion on festival days or on some special occasion where people are in a mood to enjoy themselves either by going out or calling people to their places to have a party, you can't expect good responses. Serious type of discussions tend to get less responses as people they don't want to participate in tense discussions, they prefer to have some nice and quality time on this site,as most of them are earning from their offices and very few are here actually for making some money! Thus here for the above reasons together with may be few others you could be getting less responses! But believe in me I can assure you that it is not for the reason that you are a junior you are not getting the responses! I am one of the senior members of this site and I have witnessed the inception of this forum, still if you look into my discussions I still have a few discussions which were never answered by any one so far! These things happen and you need to be a sport and need to learn to adjust to such things! Thanks ! Happy Mylotting!

Yes, AKRao24 you said it all very nicely. All i can say is , there's no such discrimination here. I accept i had the the 9 stars a few days ago , but again i do have the 8 stars now because i posted a wrong format type of discussion. And i amenable to that. Besides, sometimes the topic we start on doesn't interest other Mylotters, so just let it be. In a month or two, somebody will like it, because it's their cup of tea.

I personally don't believed that if you have a star ranking or you have the most number of post you are popular. As number of post is something that you can attain if you are really active here in mylot. I've been a member for quite long time and my number of post is so little, it's because in the last few months I was busy or sometimes I really don't visit mylot. And also, it doesn't mean that no one comment on your post is because you are a newbie here. I don't give a comment if it's not really my interest, as for obvious reason that you have nothing to say. I don't feel bad either if no ones give a comment on my discussion, as long as I'm earning that's perfectly ok.. lol!

I don't even look at the numbers. I look at discussions and when I find one I want to participate in, I do. ONly time I do look is in choosing the option "New User" and that is just to be nice and help them get started. But the numbers don't mean much to me...chat if and when you want to. Just cause you have low number of discussions, doesn't mean you aren't chatting constantly on existing discussions!!!

Going by this discussion alone, you should see that theres no discrimination here.how? just by noticing that you've received quite a few comments from veteran as well as new members who found your discussion interesting and this proves that it doesn't matter how many posts you have.you spoke your mind and how you felt about a certain subject and not only did you receive positive reinforcement, you also received comments from members who took the time to explain how to make the most of your membership and that's about as much as any of us can ask for here.
1 Apr 11
I am glad i got responses from the veterans anyway. i am starting to love this site. i like this kind of community and i hope it last longer than it should.

I tend to respond to almost anyone unless the topic is full of obscenities or words that I don't like used. If it is a topic of interest, I will respond. Perhaps you post topics where there aren't many people? Or maybe the topic just doesn't promote general interest even if there are many people in that interest area. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't discriminate against a person if they only have a few posts. You have to start somewhere! If you keep responding to posts and making new ones, you will eventually have a higher rating. And it is in people giving you a positive rating that your rating will improve. I'm not saying you have to agree with what anyone says, but try to make it known that when you reply to someone that you understand where they come from and that you don't necessarily agree if you don't. Just don't try to antagonize anyone and you will grow. Good luck and happy mylotting!

I don't want to antagonize any one. before i did but now try to change they hang it out against me which is unfair and very sad indeed. hope that won't happen again because me a bit sensitive to things that can be rude.

When I was a newbie I received few responses when I posted a discussion, but I think it happened because I had few friends and not because I was new or unpopular. I think that MyLot is a very friendly site compared to many other discussion sites. I have experienced dicrimination on other sites and on those sites I have seen how new members got ignored by the seniors, but when I was new here on MyLot I didn't feel ignored and I received friendly answers when I asked a question. When I respond to a discussion I don't look at number of posts or the star I only look at the topic.

it is a very friendly site. despite of my behavior here in the past, people have gotten to know about and ends up being more patient with me since.

People are more popular when they comment. It´s just like in real life: if someone asks you a question, you answer and the person simply goes away you don´t talk to him anymore. It happens that way at mylot. I like to have my answers commented. I don´t make a new post everyday. But I respond to my friends posts as much as I can and we start a dialogue. It has nothing to do with the stars or the low number posts.

Hello, Rebelotter.:) Everybody has started as newbie and with low star ranking.I'm not an exception. But, I never felt I was discriminated despite of my being a newbie and to think that I am also an Asian. Matter of fact, I felt that I was so welcome her from the very beginning and until this very minute. Oh, thank you for the friendships I have gained here while cruising my journey here in Mylot. Though my star is higher now, but, I don't feel like I want to discriminate someone here. It is to my full knowledge that there are wonderful lotters here who are very supportive of the newbies to the extent that their responses also get deleted whenever the newbie's discussion got deleted. I have see a lot of elder Myloters here who are trying their best to guide the new ones. No, discrimination doesn't exist in this site, dear.

I don't think that number of posts, star, ranking or something else like that matters for the responses you will receive in your discussion. It matters only the content you posts, the number of your friends and how you pick your friends, also how they pick you. I can say for example that some of my friends are really active people here and they respond nearly to each of my discussions. The one reason i think that happens is because they are open minded and feel interesting to answer to different topics. For myself i can say that i don't participate if i got nothing to share with the poster of the discussion. Usually daily life discussions are most visited here, because we all live in the same reality and at times we face same problems or same moments of happiness - that kind of topics are appreciated by everyone, because sharing real experience can be useful for the others.

I see, thank you for your response. i do appreciate the inputs coming from every one here. this makes me participate even more to the discussions at hand. you have such a brilliant beauty, thank you so much.

Besides the points made by AKRao24, which I'd say are all valid, I'd also like to mention that people with more posts probably have more friends, since they've been in this site for longer, so the notifications about their discussions go to more users, thus attracting more answers. There may be some who feel more confident responding to veteran users, because they know the rules better, and thus there are fewer chances of having the discussion deleted by the admin. Besides, some veteran users are quite the hosts for their discussions, "entertaining" their "guests", providing new twists during the conversation, switching to and fro all the time, making jokes and saying a kind word to everybody, it's quite a pleasure to participate.
1 Apr 11
I am not sure which twist are you referring to in terms of discussing stuff. but i just don't like being neg rate and i don't want to antagonize either. but i don't understand why me being treated this way.

Suppose you have high rank and number of posts, then will you reply my post whereas I'm a new mylotter? if yes then there is no discrimination here but if your answer is no then don't wonder if the discrimination happens.
