Cickbank for extra money

Has anyone tried Clickbank or other affiliate marketing sites and had success? I've tried promoting a few products on Clickbank with articles and have had no success. I've also tried Click2sell products and have had no luck. I'd really appreciate any advice on how to pick products to promote and the best (preferrably free or inexpensive) ways to promote products if you've had success. Thanks!
