hello myloters! I am interested in joining the military. I have heard of the honor, recognition, benefits, travels, and salaries that come along with joining the military. But I am curious to know which branch is best? If you have opinions, facts, experiences, and stories to share on why, then please feel free to comment. YOUR say will definitely have an impact on my decision. So please help me out and thank you!!

Well, let's see here...I'd think there's be some things you might want to consider... If you can't swim or are afraid of water then the Navy would seem like a good fit for you...or if you are afraid of flying you might want to reconsider a career as a jet pilot... Although there are land based jobs in the Navy, not everyone in the Air Force flies a plane, and in the Army not all end up being Rangers, and of course the Marines do it all. (or so they say) I've known people in every branch of the military, each has it's pros and cons... The major question is which branch will fit you the best, and which one will you be best suited for. I think a question you should be asking yourself is if you plan on making the military your career, if in parlance, you intend to be a lifer. I believe such a life important decision is one that should be made based on your own research, desires and abilities. Although I could say, go Army, join Air Borne and jump out of perfectly good air planes.

Hello, thanks so much for the insight. To be honest I like the fact that you don't sugar coat things. As for the go army hahahaha well to be honest i hear people tell me to not join it! but i think it's the best branch at the moment. And I think Air Borne rangers are awesome! I'm still stumped though at what site should i search. It's hard to find objective ones these days without the element of bashing.

I know my first response was a bit tongue in cheek, but I also made one especially valid point. Do you intend to be a lifer? To make the military your life's career? I ask that question (I'd say those but in effect they are the same question), because if you do or even don't, there are further considerations to take into account. If your plan is to join a branch of the Armed Forces for a tour you need to consider what applications and training you will receive that will help in your civilian life. Each branch has a few specialties that are exclusive to them, and some are cross overs with a bit more emphasis in one branch or another. If you, for instance, want to spend your career working on jet engines or airplanes or as an Air Traffic Controller, Air Force or Navy are the better choices in my estimation, and in the order listed. If you want to be a helicopter pilot, not much chance of that in the Army, although as I said there is some cross over training. If you plan on a lifetime in the military, then you need to look at advancement opportunities. After all, you won't want to be a private or an ensign for years on end. Talk with the recruiters, ask about educational opportunities, ask about availability of your spec choices, and take a trip to the local VFW and talk with some of the folks there...then ask the recruiter if he/she can direct you to anyone locally that was mustered out in the last five years or less, that you can talk with. My grandson joined the Army last year on what's called a split enlistment. He went through Basic Training last summer and in the fall returned to finish high school, and will be going for AIT when he graduates this spring. His MOS is engineer, and the Army will be sending him to college. He will do his tours as every soldier does, but his education will be finished first. After all, those engineers are needed to build bridges, air strips etc. There is a wealth of information the recruiter is required to give you, and to direct you to more...both pro and con for the branch he/she represents.

I am also looking into joining the military. So I have talked to quite a few people in different branches of the military. And from what I have heard and learned about the Air Force is the most liked and everyone encourages me to choose this. I rarely hear good things about the Army. I dont hear much about the Navy. And the Marines are Jar Heads and are all stuck up and think there the best because there a Marine. But I dont know if your going to school but what im doing is going thru AFROTC which there is no obligation of joining the Air Force if you go thru ROTC. It gives you college credits and lets you see how the Air Force life is like. And best of all after two years in AFROTC. You only have do 65 days in officer trainging and you are a Commissioned officer in the Air Force and get twice as much as if you were to just join and go to BMT. But I encourage you to go to air forces website look at what BMT is like read about life in the Air Force and all the jobs you can get into. Then do the same for each branch. Because when I was looking into it at first I wanted to go Army. But after looking over all the different websites. I thought the Air Force was more well rounded. But just do some of your own research
