In our place, it's so hard to shop because the prices of the products are extremely high. Whenever I get to watch videos from YouTube, usually haul videos, I get shock to how many shoes, bags, clothes, and etc. they were able to buy. The prices there were a cheaper than what we have here.

Actually, Philippine commodities is not that high if we will refer to shoes, bags and clothes. As per my personal observation, these commodities are cheap in the Philippines except maybe for those imported ones due to high taxes that Philippine government is adding on the goods. I have been to different countries and the best place I have been to do shopping is HongKong and Dubai. But, what expensive there is the house rent. In Thailand, these goods are also not that expensive, maybe a little cheaper than the Philippines. In Europe, these goods are somewhat costly if you will convert them to Philippine peso, but food is cheap there. In the US, these goods are really cheap especially when they are on sale, but please take note that signature goods are always expensive. Electronic items are very cheap in the US. However in these countries, some services are expensive like beauty salon, massage, spa, etc. I lived in three different countries in the gulf region. Here, food is cheap, gasoline very cheap, water is more expensive. Cars are affordable even by an ordinary employee like me, but to get the driver's license is very expensive. I am living now in Oman and I buy my clothes in Dubai when I have the opportunity or in Manila, it's cheaper in Manila and has better quality. But for electronic items, it's much cheaper here in the gulf as tax is less. Commodities in the Philippines appears to be expensive because of the low salary given to Filipinos, lesser purchasing power. But if the Filipinos will get the salary we are earning here abroad, commodity prices will appear to be cheap because of higher purchasing power.

Wow! Such a long post. Thanks hexebella. You visited a lot of countries already. I'm happy that I posted a discussion like this because I was able to find out the things or necessities that I should avoid or buy less when I will visit a particular country. Manila has cheap stuffs, but here in our place, it's quite expensive. Whenever entrepreneurs preferred buying stuffs from Manila, it's expected that the prices are two times higher than the original price. I hope I could visit the places that you've mention above. I think you've got lots of cash. By the way, where does Oman located? I'm so poor when it comes to geography.

I've thought of that before, but I still don't have any money for investment. Right now, I'm busy with our Sari-Sari store. My mom entrusted me to do all the necessary work to make that small store become a bit bigger. I'm still a student. Next week, I'm going to Manila; I hope I can find some cheap stuffs to buy and be sold. I know there were a lot in Manila, but whenever I go back here in our place, my friends and family thought that it was meant to be a "pasalubong."

Hi eLsMarie! It's not that I have lots of cash, in fact I am cash strapped LOL!!! Whenever I have little money, I travel, making me no money waaahhh! gone are the days that I spend money on clothes, shoes bags and those stuff. I only buy when I need. I put my money in traveling. Oman is located right below the United Arab Emirates, near Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Oman is not that popular like the Emirates but this is rich in resources. Anyhow, I do understand that the commodities will be more expensive if transported to your place as the goods are manufactured mostly in Luzon and the ports are in Manila. Don't you think that it's a good opportunity for you to open a business and be an entrepreneur?

Hi again eLsMarie... I can tell you not to got envy to someone situated in other country. Like me, I'm here in Israel working as caregiver, everything here is gold in price. Very high cost of living and we need to work hard to earn for our family. Maybe your fooled by some pictures of every "kababayan" that only show the good things happened to them in abroad (buying shoes, bags, and all of the luxurious things). But the truth is we're not such like that. You need also to sweat to make money here in abroad so you can buy whatever you want. ( at least I'm talking about from my experience) The problem is the mentality of our love ones in the Philippines that once your in abroad, they think your already a millionaire and you have a dollar printing machine.

I've always been interested about the lives of the OFWs. When our teacher shared his experience in Madrid, he was telling us that most Filipinos there would take pictures and send it to their family in the Philippines to shows that they are happy, but the truth is they're suffering from having no permanent home and shelter.

May I ask you something personal? It's okay if you're not going to answer it. Uhmmm... were your families in the Philippines knew that you are a bit suffering there or having some tough times? 40000 is such a big amount.

That's what I want to pinpoint.. for our love ones to be proud for us... so we send almost the most happiest moment in our life here in abroad and for us also... its called "EGO" just to say that we're in abroad and we were in this place that not all the others can go. Your teacher were right, many of us suffered for the high rental of the apartment. For example like me, I have my wife and my daughter her in Israel and we paid almost 40,000 in our money just for the apartment not including the food, the bills for water and electric. But still I'm happy because my wife and my daughter are with me. Just need to work a little bit harder to earn for a living and of course to send some amount of money to our love ones in the Philippines.

Hi eLsMarie, I think not always like what we see. It could be at your house a cheap goods, while the place is expensive. Remain grateful for everything we can. Thanks

Hi, really depends on where you are situated. There are certain countries where prices are really lower compared to other nation. But sometimes this is because, they are producing these products there. Transporting these products might not be hard or costly. There's really a lot of factors that affects the product's cost, not to add the demand for those.

When we buy things online we usually get it at a discounted rate because there is no transportation cost and various other factors involved. At the same time we get variety of things at the same price because they usually sell things with various promotions like combos.

Wow! That's awesome. We don't have that kind of promotion here. Usually when it comes to online products, the prices are expensive because of the shipping.
