I have this theory that our lives have a sort of balance in them. What I mean is that we can't just live always happy or always sad.Happy times are followed by sad ones and sad times are followed by happiness. Its just my theory and I'd appreciate it if u guys share your views and experiences on it..........

it is called the law of relativity....it is like this...you do not know what happiness is till you experience sadness. you cannot appreciate success without failing. life is a perfect balance which means that if one thing is present, an exact opposite of it will always be there as well. otherwise, you wouldn't know or be aware of its existence.

That makes sense. But do you think that the happiness and sadness we experience in our lives is directly proportional?

i believe that ultimately...no matter how bad a situation is, you can make it a whole lot better depending on how you decide to "feel" about it or how you decide to "act" on it. for example, you got fired from your job - yes, it is not a good thing but it would depend on how you deal w/ the situation.maybe you never really liked your job to begin with and you realized you actually wanted to start your own business so you decide to go ahead and do that with the savings that you have and end up being grateful for getting fired.so like i said - ultimately, it would depend on how you decide to take things and how you act on it. it makes all the difference.

Hello mate, I agree completely on what you said. Things are balanced yes, but when do we find it balanced is a question mark always because, it depends on us and it also vary from person to person! Well, a few people have all the happiness when they are young, but struggle a lot in the older phase of their life and there are the other few, for whom life works the other way round. But, there are even a few people, whose life is all balanced right from the beginning to the end. I must say, these people have the best lives and their living is always a peaceful one! Whatever happens, happens for a reason and we must remember one quote always in our mind and heart! When you have bad times, "Don't worry, this moment will pass on! " When you have the bad time, again, "Don't worry, this moment also will pass on! " Ultimately, it just says that, change is the only thing that doesn't change and we should not expect things to be the same and a one way traffic always. Its always two sided, just like the two phases of a coin. Both happiness and sadness comes along with each other. Happiness teaches us the value of life and sadness teaches us the value of happiness. Cheers! :)

Hello SomniatorIdealist! I believe that this alternation between good moments and bad moments in life happens because the mind can't stand just one state: of happiness or sadness. It needs the change, so, after being happy for a while, our thoughts drift to less happy thoughts, or less fortunate people, and than bad feelings become to emerge. What happens next, is us being in a not very good situation, to mirror our thoughts, that wakes up other unpleasant thoughts, and we stumble upon other bad situations. Things go this way, until we can't accept it anymore and we seek good things, happy people or memories, to make us feel better. With those good feelings, we start to see interesting things around us, nice situations and ideas, and we immerse ourselves in those...until...and then it happens all over again. At least this is my experience of life with it's good and bad times.
