There are many people at church that read their bible on iPad's.I am wondering should I get an iPad,that starts at $500 or a Kindle at $139? Which would you get?

Hello dfollin, You know that you can also read a free bible and that our Lord will not reject you if you are humble . This said, if it is to be noticed by other people at church, a 5 feet long manuscript of a medieval bible is probably the perfect device . I am using ebooks readers and PDA to read books since ten years. As all color devices, an IPad is only good to read indoor. It is very good to read during the night or with dim lights. If you project to read your bible or a book in a public garden or in a place with many light, a black and white e-ink device -- a kindle or a Sony PRS (I prefer the design) -- is the best choice ; reading with an IPad is quite impossible outdoor by a sunny day.

Yeah that is some what true they do have screen protection that have a glare decrease effect and it can help you read in the sunlight the iPad already cost $500 so if you want to spend that extra money they that's up to you I don't because think the iPad is very thin and light scares me haha sometimes hah pa but I haven't broken it or anything it's very strong at the same time to me. And solid. Maybe with the new iPad they will have something that will have reduce the glare or maybe no glare in e future. So we wil lare they will be coming out with one soon. Oh yeah Im on my iPad right now haha

Hello payout, An IPad is a very good device and the best tablet that you can get today. The problem is that a color screen has always glare, but a color device is always better than an e-ink one to read during the night. I think the best is to have two devices if you want to read outdoor : I have tried anti-glare filters years ago on Palm and Compaq PDA with no good results ; I have a Sony PRS 600 -- same size than the IPad -- and I use it outdoor to read. Indoor, I am still using an old Palm LifeDrive -- LOL : it is in my kitchen actually -- to read ebooks. Maybe I will buy the next IPad -- I have not one yet --.

Hey drfollin, I own a iPad I love it and there isnt one day I don't get on it. I never read the bible or download it on my iPad Probably because I have a Bible haha. That is a good idea. If you want to be Hip and get like everyone else I would say go for it I think its worth every dollar and penny and fraction of a penny haha. Plus when you go home you can use it like you portable laptop or netbook I use it for the internet and email and notes and almost everything haha. I have my resume and everything plus netflix which makes it a awesome Entertainment as well. It does everything really. The kindle is I think is just for reading and you can surf the web but. to me the iPad is a better experience. Also the battery probably last longer then the Kindle. If you do Buy one I would say wait a little long before you do Apple will soon bring the new Generation of the iPad with a camera and more features and better and faster. so you will be even more better then everyone else ipad at church yours will be faster better and.. the battery will most likely be longer and you can recorder and facetime with people as well . I honestly will recommend the iPad to anyone just wait the New one is coming out soon. Im going to get the Macbook Pro but the new MacBook Pro is coming out as well and so Im going to wait for that. :) Apple makes awesome products and its worth the money believe me. if you aren't sure still then go to a local store and test one out. Thats what I did plus I even watch youtube videos too and saw opinions of others and reviews. but remember a newer one is coming out and would be better. so keep that in mind while you test it out and watch reviews. :)

Yes payout, you were very helpful. Now I am going to have to wait anyway because I need to save the money.Just to let you know that I do have bibles,3 different ones in my bible case,a KJV,NIV Rainbow and a NIV Study. And,I have more for around the house for anyone else to look at if they want, mostly KJV.But,on an Ipad or Kindle it's lighter to carry to church. And hexebella,I am glad that my discussion helped someone else.

I'm not sure what the difference is between the two. I'm sure that I would go for the Kindle because of the price. Not knowing what the capabilities of each is, I don't know that the higher price would be worth it unless the iPad was able to do much more than the Kindle. I hope that helps.

I just got my ipad about 2 weeks ago, just before they announced iPad2 is on the way to production. Still, I do not regret. It is such an amazing workhorse. Besides games and ebooks, I recently bought 2 apps from iTunes to aid in my guitar learning. The apps are fantastic, well worth the money. The iPad's large screen makes it worthwhile and the user friendliness simply blows me off. If you are buying for church use, do it soon. Don't wait. YouVersion is offering the NIV2010 for offline use. I just downloaded mine yesterday. In addition, there are other versions as well if you are interested. I don't think you will regret it. I sure didn't. iPad!

Hi, I am not sure about Kindle, but I would vote for iPad as I am a Mac user. Consider the usability of the product as well as the price. Consider your needs too, if you just wanted to use it for reading bible verses then a cheaper one might do. :)

If you just want to read the bible from iPad or kindle, then I don't think it is necessary for you to buy it. If you are interested in playing the games, reading the e-books, surfing the net etc., then you can consider to buy it. I still think that the iPad is expensive. And there are many similar products like it and I think it will have a better product soon. So it is not a hurry to buy it now. I love China

ahha no i can't believe that people come in church with their ipad ...ahahah..it is really a funny image for me!!Anyway i think you shouldn't buy an ipad considering just this purpose so may be a normal ereader as kindle can be better for you...in reality i never understand the real deal about these kind of devices...anyway if somebody want read the bible ..eheh they can...

That a lot of difference in price. I don't know the capabilities on the Kindle but i think it's just something that can store ebooks. On the other hand, the Ipad can be used as an ebook plus so much more. It would boil down to where your priorities are, if you will just use the thing to read the bible or any books then the kindle would be the easy choice since but if want more like make phone calls, play games occasionally, etc, and you have the extra money, then the ipad is an option. It doesn't really need to be ipad, there are several gadgets or adroids that basically functions like the ipad if has even more, yet very affordable too.
