Disturbed sleep

I am not used to a very noisy environment because I used to live in a "noise-free" studio apartment then. But last August, since I moved to a bigger apartment, my room is exposed to noise. I hate the noise from the second unit beside ours. I can hear a over volume TV sound or music sounds and worse is the shouting of my neighbors. I stay in a 4-door apartment and ours is on the 3rd door. What annoys me the most is when I am sleeping. I am a night worker and sleeps at dawn like 3-4 AM. When the clock reaches 5 I am awakened by my neighbors sound of their TV, watching for morning news. I end up covering my ears to go to sleep. Then by 8 AM, the kids play in our common garage and I always hear the shouting. Darn! Can't really get a good and continious sleep. Do you experience this kind of scenario

Prob w/ my neighborhood would be lots of dogs barking when there's someone crossing our street, I am just annoyed because I dont own a dog and I have two kids sleeping, and I hate the thought that these dogs would wake them up. There are also times when it is already dawn and they are still listening to noisy type of music and their speakers are in a blast! Whew! :S

Hi there Staria! Sorry to hear that my friend. That is really annoying because it is your kids who gets disturbed. Perhaps, you can talk with the dog owner to at least transfer the dog from a place that they will not cause from barking and barking. Dogs get irritated and stressed when they hear strange things. Although, that is the purpose of having a dog to prevent the house owners being entered by strangers. Yet, they have to consider their neighbors too.

Hi, I just need to understand that dogs need to bark, lol. Would still be able to keep up w/ that, as long as they keep it clean and urine/poop smell free. Thanks for the suggestion:)

you should look into getting a white noise machine which may drown out the noise or maybe getting ear plugs.

Ear plugs would be the best my friend. Well, I can't get used to their noise too badly because my job requires me to have a quiet one.

Same here. I could easily be disturbed with noise or even just a slight noise around. I need a quiet room to be able to sleep tight. So far now, I use ear plugs.

well i never fall in such a situation. I also don't like noise when i sleep. And one good thins for me is i can't hear anything when i sleep no noise can break my sleep. I think you can ask your neighbor to reduce the sound but i think you can't stop the kids so batter you change your time table. I mean why not work in the morning and sleep at the night.

Oh dear, I wish I can change my time table, but I can't because I am following my employer's time. That is the main reason why I have to follow theirs. I think, I cannot also request the reduction of the noise because it is their habit. I can tolerate the kids playing, they are kids. But the old ones are irritating. They talk much so loud even when they are just beside each other.

Hello maean, I am one of the luckiest persons who can sleep in any conditions. I can sleep if there is a lot of noise in the building (and it is, believe me!) it doesn't matter to me that my neighbor listens to some bad music with the volume turned to maximum. But I can understand your sadness, as I have a cousin who can't even fall asleep if there is any noise. She stays awake all night long if there is any noise and she's so tired in the morning! I don't know what to say other than suggest you to find another apartment, maybe you find a more quiet neighborhood.

Good for you my dear. I am not like that, too bad. I can easily wake up with little noises. I can wake up even to a slightest running of a cat from outside. Can also wake up when my housemate enters the door downstairs.

I stay just a few yards from the highway and I am so used to the noises of the non stop traffic flow that is 24/7. My neighbors are far and wide so they aren't a nuisance to my peacefulness. But will be moving to a new housing estate soon and that will be a challenge to me to bear with the noise pollution from all corners of my house. I have never lived in closed proximity with others. It is my first time staying in a terrace house where only walls become the boundary to my next door neighbor. I hope my neighbors are civic minded people who are considerate and won't create unnecessary noise disturbance.

I see, so that would be another adjustment for you my friend. Well, as for me, I am trying to get used to it, yet still not used to it because my job requires me to have a noise free. I would try to adjust with my sleep using ear plugs perhaps. lol

I hate sleeping in the noise. Recently some people moved in next door, they play wicked loud music all days... all nights... it is very disturbing. I cannot sleep at all at night, I have to sleep in my son's room because his room is on the other side of the house so it is a little better but still... I don't know how long I still have to suffer from this...

I'm sure I would also not be able to sleep in that kind of environment. That's one of the reasons we have chosen to stay in an apartment in the sub- urb. It's a single unit detached. The only person we see in the compound is our landlady and her husband. All her children have a house and family of their own. The place is just 5 minutes away from the city by cab but you'll be surprised that within the heart of the city lies a small and peaceful village. I also work in a night shift so I need to be able to sleep peacefully at noontime.

Wow maean 5 am that is not be courteous even if you did not work so late at night they really are mean and rude. Have you spoken to them, but then I know it would be a waste of time as we too here have the same issue as the upstairs neighbors pound at all hours with music blasted even on weekdays. They have a two year old that 3am is running back and forth and they don't care. We have nicely spoken to them, we have complained to the landlord and nothing. The are very inconsiderate to say the least. So I know what you are going through.

Complaining to the landlady would be useless my friend because the people on the 2nd door were relatives of the landlady. Besides, they came from the mountain province, so their behaviors are expected.

Yes!It is so annoying. We have Mexican neighbors who goes home at midnight and he will knock hard on their door.If no one will open he will yell. IT is so annoying. Then early in the morning our Black American neighbor will turn his radio so loud as if he is the only person in the world. In the afternoon if I want to take a nap, the owner of the house will close and open the garage door with a banging sound. It is so hard to find sleep here. But I am fine with it, because other people do not have a house to live. They live in the streets, like the homeless people that I see in the downtown. It is too cold and too noisy too. So I guess I am still lucky to have a home with noisy neighbor.I think I get used to it.

The best thing to do is at least befriend to them so that in a way you can tell them that you are working at night and sleeping in the morning. That way, they will be conscious that one of their neighbor is sleeping while it's their time to wake up. On the other hand, you can't blame them, too because your working schedule has nothing to do with their own life, and adjustments actually must be made by you, probably 70% because what's normal is that people are awake in the morning and sleeping at night. Let them know :-) have a nice day

I have befriended them. Besides, we only stay in a very close units, so you can't avoid talking to them. I think, they are just behave differently because they came from the mountain province. And they are not used to have close neighbors. They act as if no one is around. Anyways, I cannot explain how they act.

Yes, I share the same sentiment. Our next-door neighbors involve a family of loud-mouthed individuals. Early in the morning, you can hear them shouting or bickering at each other and the radio is turned on in a very loud volume. It's as if they were the only ones living in the neighborhood. At night, it's the same routine. They talk as if they were angry with each other and have this karaoke jamming session. Once, I asked them to tune down the volume of their music, but after a few days, they were doing the same thing. I was really pissed off, so what I did was to ask the help of our community officials to reprimand them from turning on their music so loud. I notice some changes after that. Their music is not so loud, but still is irritating to the ears.

Oh my dear, our situation is very much similar. Unfortunately, I cannot complain because they are relatives of the landlady and I think their rent is free that is why they act like that aside from it is their natural acts.
