Winters are dangerous for walking here. Today was the first day you could find dry pavement. I went on a half mile walk. I know I will need to do this every other day until I don't feel muscle or joint pain after walking. But after loosing 100lbs over the last two years with 30 left to go I know of no other way but kick starting my metabolism now. I have to be prepared to go up to the summer place and manhandle the boat, chop wood, ride bike to the neighbors, and an endless list of other activities. I'm kinda known as the woman to go to for help getting things done. This all begins in April. I can't wait! What are you doing to prepare for summer?

Hi 2004, Over here on the other side of the world, is sun all year round. Sometimes, I do get bored by the bright, hot sun all day long. It just get on your nerves, it makes one lethargic and weak due to dehydration. However, looking at your winter, I have second thoughts. What to do with the snow on the pavement and everywhere. Then, I fell more conscious of the early morning sun and a promise of another bright sunny day and cannot stop singing to myself "Sunshine on my shoulder makes me happy, Sunshine on my eyes can make me cry... Sunshine on the water look so lovely Sunshine almost always makes me high." (John Denver, Sunshine) Just like that, summer all year long.

It is the end of winter in our country now. It snowed the day before yesterday. I would like to answer your question: What to do with the snow on the pavement and everywhere? It is really inconvenient for us go outside our home. We must be more careful no mater we are walking, riding bike or driving a car, as the road is so slippy. The spring is comming here. I think it will become warmer and warmer. I do like walking everyday. It is a good habit for our health.

I don't know who to respond to?! Here in Minnesota we book winter vacations in climates such as yours rog! In my youth winter didn't bother me much. I booked horseback riding and ski trips during the winter and didn't have a family to raise. With air conditioning we can get a good nights sleep in our "hot" weather. We do not get the over 100 degree weather. What gets to a person is home ownership. Shoveling snow and ice dams damaging roofs. Apartments and condos are the way to go for single women. The older men get the more they realize they should start considering the same.

We've been lucky this past summer. Our "cash crops" did well. I predict however, this will change soon. I'm glad I accidentally stocked up on pepper corns! We do not grow pepper. As far as the walk, you have to be able to get out of your house first. After two strokes you have to be careful about what you do, especially on your own.

Jogging in the park is my favorite way of keeping healthy. Every evening after I get back home from work, if the weather permits, I go out to the park near my home and join the people who do jogging for atleast half a mile. That is an excellent way to keep physically healthy, and also to get rid of the stresses of the day. I become physically and mentally refreshed after the jogging.

I know what you mean. I remember the words from somewhere-sometimes it feels so bad it feels good, or something like that.

I'm not really doing anything yet because I am recovering from surgery. It won't be easy to get motivated to do much over the next few months either because I will be going through chemotherapy. I do go out and walk around the building during the day, but it really isn't enough. It is better than just sitting around all day, but it is hard to do much when you don't feel all that great. I hope that your preparations for summer go well!

I am impressed that you are hiking after strokes. I do sleep a lot right now, but I know I need to do more than I have been. I don't feel like going out where people can see me because I am still not comfortable with the colostomy and I'm afraid that people can see the pouch, especially when it fills up with air. When I got out of the hospital three weeks ago, they wanted me to get a walker because they were worried about my balance when walking. I started out just taking short walks up and down the hall in the motel. Now I go out and walk to the convenience store or around the building just to try to build up my strength. I can't wait until I can start going places, but without transportation, it is hard. I am not close to anything since I am about 3 miles out of town to the freeway exit where the mall is. Who knows, when the snow is gone, I might walk there although I don't know if there is a safe way to do so without actually walking on the freeway. Talk to you later.

I hear your dilemma! I had two strokes in Sept. I am hiking in Feb?! It still has been a long road back. Those things can take a lot out of you! I NEED to move. The first two months I just wanted to sleep. Then I just wanted to sit. Then I had all I could do to climb and descend stairs! I am just starting to move and was surprised by how fast I felt comfortable walking! It's a road all right. I'm praying for you. Fast recovery to you!

I can't wait for the spring to come as soon as possible... The snow finally has stopped and the temperature is been warmer, snowing is melting. I hope the groundhog is right that the spring will be early! I just want to get out to play with my dog and take my baby out for a warm walk. It is not a good idea to be out for a walk when the road is so icy... I am planning to visit my family in the summer and spend time with them.

The meteorologists say we have about a 10 percent chance of spring coming early. Our deck on the west side of the house can make it seem like spring really early in the year. When the sun is shining in the afternoon it can be as much as 10 degrees warmer there. I study this stuff. I know, I'm weird that way. Yesterday I went to the store and bought about 10 lbs of stuff to carry home. Good for upper body strength. Tomorrow I will walk in the other direction. About 20 blocks in total, but I won't be carrying anything. My arms are the only thing that's sore today!

I'm doing sth to make me strong and agile, so I need to exercise to put on weight. To gain weight, I guess I need to improve my diet to be rich in meat.

I don't think winter is dangerous for walking. In fact, it is good for wealth as our body get warm by walking and that is very good for our health. If you started walking, i would suggest you to continue walking, even summer season. If you are fat, it will loose your fat from your body. And moreover, it will make your body fit.
