Are you open minded?

If so, why? Is it because something happened in your life early on and you learned it is better to be open to thing than to close yourself off? Or, are you really curious and open to things. What makes a person open minded? Cause and/or effect? And has it ever hurt you to be open minded?

i think being open leads to betterment of our inner-selves beside enhancing our knowledge-base.if we remain segregated and dont share our thoughts with others than we are most likely to catch various diseases emotional as well as physical, so it is better to mingle with friends and people and put our thoughts laid bare.

How do we catch these odd diseases again? And what are they?

i think the reason of these diseases vary with an individual's habitat, belief, culture, family, friends, social status, religion and prominently his own personality...if i am not open-minded and introvert than i am most likely to catch such diseases and i am more akin to physical and emotional breakdown depending upon my inner-being....

Being open minded is an asset. The reason why some people regret this is that they did not associate thinking and discrimination with it. My idea of open mindedness is to consider all that life gives me but accept things which which can make me a better person. Of course this means things that are a pain can also be accepted.

But don't you feel that be excepting and being open minded are two different things?

Open mindedness that can harm me will slowly but surely close my mind. While I do not per say oppose or hate something, I certainly think whether it is right socially and morally, and then accept it. I believe being Open minded can be good only if this can be done. Taking punches just for the sake of being open minded can be harmful. Yes they are different!

always. it really makes things tough sometimes. i think it is like that with me because my parents were both so close minded and ive found out many times we dont know the whole story from someone. it comes with the old saying of "assume" the first 3 letters tell you what comes from assuming something. ive often thought i missed my calling by not becoming a psychologist. lol.

It is interesting to see different peoples take on open mindedness. And we must not assume. hehe

I think I fairly am. I think I learned it from a young age and I remember thinking that everyone has their reasons for everything. I guess I separated myself from other people thinking, that I am myself as much as he or she is themselves. I am also very curious and I think I always was too.. maybe that did contribute to it. I think the disadvantage I had was that anything went for me so I had trouble forming opinions and decisions.

Ya, I think curiousity does lend in to it.

It pays to be open minded even on certain issues.I don't usually judge something without really looking through thoroughly or knowing the whole story. I have friends with culture different from mine. What makes us really gel is the fact that i try to learn their culture and respect the way they are and they do the same to me.What i mean is you don't have to limit yourself from what you are accustomed to, be open to any changes that come along.

I want to learn many more new things and I believe that there are lots of possibilities in this world and in our life. So being open helps us understand more things. Things do change and if we are not open enough then we'll be left behind. Being open minded enables us to discover new things and learn new things as well which leads to inventions and new creations.

I am open minded. I am curious about learning things, and such. I do think that it is important to at least try and be a little opened minded. I don't really think that it's necessarily a bad thing to be open minded about some things. I don't think that it can really hurt you to be opened about some things, at least. But this is just my personal opinion.

i think open mindedness does have alot to do with curiousity. If you aren't then you aren't as open to then because you don't really care all that much.

I consider myself to be open minded. My parents were not in fact i thought them hippoccrital in the way they acted toward me when i was growing up & really bad as they got older. I hate it when people get older & talk about someone doing something that they did themselves when they were younger. Why do older people do that,u think? What makes them think people have forgotten what they did.

I think it is called common sense. You learn as you go and you don't want your kids to make the same mistakes you did although it is apart of growing up to make these same mistakes.

I am very open minded. I think that it is because of a combination of different things. It seems like I have lived a million lives sometimes. My paths have often taken me from one extreme to another. It is easier to be open minded when you have walked a few different roads. I am also very curious and eager to learn. That's helped too. Hurt me? Not so far. So far I have been lucky enough to learn and grow. I hope it never comes to that.

But sometime i heard bad word for my my open minded attitude. And it also hurt me sometime but it's ok as i feel it's not bad habit at all so will continue.

yes, I agree. If our minds are open we will take in more. And it is, after all, all in our heads. hehe

I am indifferent, which, I guess, is close enough to open minded for most people Seriously, no, I can't say I'm open minded, even if I'm willing to learn and accept a wide range of new experiences and lifestyles, but it happens too often that something strikes too close to home and I cannot accept it. I don't even think I know anybody who's truly open minded, in all aspects of life.

Indifferent is about as opposite of open-mindedness as there can possibly be. I think that if you are open-minded in one area you are much more likely to be in other areas. They may hide but it's there.

I think I am open minded. My parents are always talking bad about how other people act and such. But to me I just go with the flow. What they do and wear is up to them, as long as it doesn't hurt you. What is the point in talking about it.

I feel when a person is at ease to accept others behavior. Something which I am not doing but the other person is finding it interesting, then I do not have any right to even discuss about his or her privacy. Basically gossip. Everybody has his/her own mindset and going to experience the pro/cons subsequently. So why to bother?

His or her privacy? What does that have to do with open mindedness? Gossip? Not ones own mindset might. Why bother? Out of respect for the other person.

That's a good question. It's hard for me to say yes or no to that. I tend to be open minded about some things but very closed minded about others. I'm not a big fan of change and if I don't completely agree with a thought or concept from the beginning I tend to be steadfast against it. Not really much of a grey area. I'm either all for it or completely against it. At the same time, if it's something that sounds good fair and decent to me I'll usually at least give something a try and be as open minded as possible. Good question.

I'm not a big fan of change either. Common sense comes into play too I think. And I think that giving something a try and being open to it is half the battle.
