An important part of SEO is back links. This is having your website link on other "relevant" sites. You find other sites that compliment your content in a number of ways. One way is to search for blogs that have relating content and leave comments.

I think that the best is to learn it with a free e-book, "SEO Fast Start", by Dan Thies. You can download it here : http://www.seofaststart.com/download You have not to register : you will find the direct download link under the "Download Now" box. It is a great ebook to learn SEO basis, with valuable piece of information. Definitely worth the $0 price.
