One of my travel photos was chosen in a city guide

Just now I am so happy when I found out that one of my travel photos was chosen in a City Guide. It was in 2007 when I spent holiday in the north east of England and shared my photos in Flikr. That same year I received an email from the publishers that one of my photos was shortlisted to be included in the City Guide and that they will confirm to me if they will push through to include it, however, they will not be paying anything, the sad part of it :( but anyway I'm still happy about it. Since then, i haven't heard anything from them anymore so I assumed that it was not chosen after all. How I found out? I typed one of my usernames in myLot's search engine out of curiosity what would appear and voila! I clicked the link and it brought me there! Here is the link http://www.schmap.com/newcastleupontyne/introduction_neighborhoods/ .... then click on the Quayside, browse the photos by clicking the left or right arrows...mine is the one labeled "Photo: la_belle_hexe" When traveling, it is recommended to take good photos, good angles, choose nice spots...share it and who knows it could give you far better rewards. Do you also upload your travel photos on websites like Flikr or Photobucket? Any good experience from doing so?

Hello hexebella, Wow that is nice! Anyway, are you a pro when it comes to photography? I had been taking photos but I upload it when I write some articles in triond. I wanted so much to share my photos too to sites accepting photos but I am an amateur photographer. I use a digital camera and not the sophisticated one. What sites do accepts amateur photos? Of course I want to earn some extra money.

It was really lovely that the city guide for Newcastle chose one of your photos. It was amazing that they look at photos of Flikr. I haven't yet downloaded any of my photos to Flikr or Photobucket. On the top of my shelf I have my travel photo albums. I have got a digital camera with an excellent zoom on it. I love to travel to different countries in the world. When I go off traveling somewhere I take lots of photos and the best ones of these end up in my latest travel photo.

Your photo is very charming Hexebella! Those bikes there remembers me the Flinn story at the Mississipi river. They are like inviting us to have a while of rest and peace and to look to the horizon... to the Quayside bridge! I do not take photos, I used to when I was single, but then I got married and kids arrived too soon, so I got pampers, bibs, and all that kind of stuff, and it is my husband who best takes some family photos... hehe... Blessings!... Dainy

hi Dainy! Thanks for the compliment! Indeed that being single and being married are far two different lifestyles. When your kids become grown up then you would have the chance to take photos again. Photography is a hobby and a profession that has no age discrimination LOL! Thanks for your comment and happy myLotting! God bless!

Hi sender621! Thank you! Indeed that I am appy and proud and excited with my little accomplishment. You are right, I feel so inspired to keep on sharing even in the smallest way I can that others would benefit from it. Though there was no monetary reward, I'm still happy and will continue sharing. hi danitykane! Thank you! I was really overjoyed and excited when I discovered it that I announced it here in our community and thanks for your response and appreciation. Well you could start saving to buy a good one. I am also very much interested with photography but until now never had the chance to get formal lessons. Thanks and happy myLotting!

Looks like you are on your way to becoming a professional photographer. All it takes is one paying job and viola! In the meantime, the picture being included in the travel guide will look good in a portfolio if you decide to take your education in that direction. Congratulations! I keep getting asked if I am using any of my own photos in my zazzle store, but usually I end up using public domain ones because it is so much easier than going out and taking new photos every time. Maybe you could sell some of your pictures on some of those sites?

Excellent! It is always exciting to know that our photos are appreciated and desired for publication by other agencies. I don't use Flickr or Photobucket, but I do publish my travel/hiking pictures on other platforms such as targeted forums, waymarking.com, my own websites, Associated Content and I have received a couple of requests in the past asking permission to use 1 or 2 of them. While I may not receive any fee for it, the photo is credited to me and who knows who else might see it and like it. Never underestimate the power of the internet. Exposure like this can lead to bigger and better things. Have you ever tried selling your photos as microstock? Microstock photography standards are stringent, but you get paid a commission for each time a client wants to use a photo.
