OK...I just heard on the news (radio station news) that WAL-MART is going to start selling discounted tickets to NASCAR events. Is there no limit to what Wal-mart is going to try to make a dollar from? At the Wal-mart stores around here, they have a hard enough time getting people through the check-out lines as it is now. They certainly don't need to start trying to sell anything else...

Wal-Mart is crazy. I hate to say that I support them by shopping their occasionally...but it is what it is. Of course they're trying to maximize their profits. Apparently the big wigs aren't making enough - probably want 8 figures instead of 7. Or something. LOL. I have a few hardcore friends who are against Wal-Mart and they go there to just buy stamps..Apparently that's the only thing they don't make a profit on. lol.

So Walmart doesn't make a profit in the stamps? Wow...I didn't know that. Actually, I didn't know they even sold stamps. LOL Unfortunately, I don't use many stamps, and even if I did, I don't think I would go to Walmart and stand in their half-hour cashier lines to buy them, but it is good to know that I can buy them there after the post office closes if I need to.

Wow this is the first I've heard of this. I wonder what this will do to the price of tickets. IF they are more accessible, the price may go up. Of coursewe all know that Walmart only cares about making money, so I guess we shouldn't be surprised. But this may start a trend of ticket-buying at Walmart. Maybe one day they will even sell Superbowl tickets! haha

Don't give them any ideas. I am curious to see what this will do to the prices of the tickets as well. This was the first I have heard of this as well. I was listening to the radio when the news came on, and it was mentioned on the news...

Wal-Mart needs to leave that up to the ticket selling companies all over the internet or even at the ticket box offices at the location of the event. The owners of walmart have literally gone to far with this one, and should think this one over a little more before doing so. There are alot more things that walmart could be selling besides event tickets and should look into other things to seel besides this. Like more board games that they dont offer they should think about selling for kids or think about more stuff that a hardware store sells because they arent a home depot yet and maybe they should think about that stuff. There is just so much more things they could sell rather than event tickets.

They need to get a handle on keeping the stuff they already sell in stock before they start trying to sell more things. It is very rare that I go to Walmart and get everything I went in there to get, especially if I go in looking for a specific brand of something. They are usually out of at least one thing on my shopping list.

The sale of a Nascar ticket does not sound like a typical Walmart purchase to me. I wonder what kind of benefit or promotion Walmart is to gain from the sale of tickets to these sporting events. Can it just stop at Nascar? Will other sporting events become available too?

My thoughts exactly...is there NO limit to what Walmart has enough money to buy into? Also, what is there to gain in this deal for them besides a percentage of the sale of each ticket? Will you be able to buy tickets for ANY race in the country at ANY Walmart, or will this be a regional type sale where only the Walmart stores within a certain radius of the race for that weekend will have the tickets for that race? Will they sell tickets to ALL NASCAR events like the Truck series, the Nationwide Series, and the Sprint Cup series, or will it just be for the big Sprint Cup events? One of the main things I am wondering is how many of these tickets are going to be swept up by collectors rather but being bought to use by fans to actually go to the race? There are many questions here that I am curious about, but being a NASCAR fan, this is a very interesting topic for me to say the least...

It is stores like Walmart that are running the individual businesses out of business. It is also stores like Walmart that have very "smart" marketing research teams. Either way it is a shame as Walmart employees will not have the experience it takes to accommodate such events so it will further cost customers more for lower quality of service.

Walmart's senior management is running that company into the ground. Sam Walton is probably doing cart-wheels in his casket...and if he isn't, he SHOULD BE...

What?!?! Where are you located? I'm up here in PA near Pocono Raceway, and a couple of hours from Dover, DE (the Monster Mile), so I can see that taking off. I agree, Walmart doesn't employ as many folks as they should in the cashier position but maybe this is an online thing? Or a separate window/line dedicated to those of us who only know about 'pressing the gas and turning left' kind of life? ;) This is news I have GOT to check out....thanks for sharing!

I think Walmart is trying to corner the market on everything. Walmart and Amazon. I don't think they will be satisfied till they each are the only businesses left in existence. Of course that would never happen, but sometimes I think that is what they are going for. So I don't doubt that they are dabbling in selling tickets now.

Hi goldeneagle! I don't think there is a limit to what Walmart will try to make a dollar on. I have often thought that before its over with, Walmart will have taken over the industry and then they will have the power to set the prices as they see fit. They have put a lot of little mom and pop stores out of business in my area which is a shame.

I don't really think that something like this is a completely new innovation for the large chain retailers. Meijers around here has been selling discounted tickets for Kings Island and several other localish attractions for several years. The Krogers around here also sell discounted tickets to local attractions. Of course it is time for Wal-Mart to get into the market of selling discounted tickets to things because they are missing out on a stream of income.

Yeah Agreed Wal-mart is taking over one thing at a time.. one day wal-mart will be the only place to shop.
