i have always thought it was cute to call your partner a special nickname in a relationship. that is why i have been using the one for my hubby since about a month or two after we got together. i almost cant remember when i called him by his real name lol... but whenever i am around other couples i reakize that they never seem to use these names (even when they dont know that i can hear them) to refer to each other. is it juvenile to use pet names? is there an age limit?

I don't think it's juvenile :) Some couples like pet names, some don't. Whatever you are comfortable with is what you should do. Personally, the only names I really use are things like sweetheart, love, baby or sweetie. I don't really go for other sorts of pet names but that's just me. Anything that encourages people to express their love and affection for one another is a good thing, in my opinion... and there is no age limit on being in love :)

well i mainly based this discussion on the fact that i have been around alot of much older married couples (like decades older) and they always seem overly formall when talking to each other. i was just trying to make sure i wasn't a weirdo for being informal with my hubby

Understandable that you sense a generational difference... even when I think of my parents, they didn't use a lot of pet names... my dad called my mom "Do" (pronounced like "dough") because it was a shortened version of her name (Doris). She occasionally called my father "hon" but mostly she used his name. I'm sure you're right that there's more formality among the older couples but I still don't think you're a weirdo *grins*

I think it's cute. I even have special names for close friends, it just makes things more interesting. I call my boyfriend by his full name and nobody else does.

haha....i wonder what my hubby would say if i randomly called himm by his full name. he would probably look at me like i was crazy lol. but i thought i was the only one who had nicknames for like everybody...i am seriously known for giving people nicknames and calling them that even in public (no matter how stupid lol)

My late husband and i always had pet names for each other. We used to drive family members crazy with it. I don't really use pet names in any other relationships that i have. i guess that is something I shared only with the one i have lost.

well i guess that just means that your late husband was very special to you and you wanted to keep what you and him had separate from any other relationship
