I mean , Thinking back, I think i was much happier person living in my own, that there is a god who protect people. Do you miss the comfort feeling that religion offers? I know that religion caused war, violent and many more. But the good side was that you was involved with community, festival and many more? Do you miss it?

More and more people are God-less these days... But when the going gets tough many remember God.

It is the first time I have said this sentence anywhere :) But there may be other people who share the same opinion :)

God is always with us. He loves us so much, so belief and faith in Him is the most important thing of all.

I miss being religious the same way I miss my very early childhood. Around the age of 5-6 I had everything figured out, except not really I only thought I did. When reality sank in and I understood the world didn't conform to my ideological preconceptions I became "pissed off" for the lack of a better word. I may have perceieved things to be easier in those days but that was simply not reality. I like to think of it in terms of Plato's Cave analogy in that I may be easier to have stayed in the cave but that was a false reality.

No one really knows the truth here, what we are talking about are beliefs. If you are an Atheist you cannot within your belief system believe in God, if this is so than you don't feel the possibilty of protection from another source. You are in this life on your own with only other humans to help. It's not as if you have a choice to believe or not to believe in God. God just doesn't exist. As an atheist you can devote all of your attention to the community of man and the good that you can do just for yur own satisfaction. Blessings are positive energy so I give you Blessings

I am still not sure that I am atheist. I miss the sense of community that was found in the church i grew up in. I guess more than anything, I am searching for that along with a way to reconcile what I personally believe in with what a church community believes in.

Not really. I haven't been religious since I was about 10 and I'm not a big fan of the dominant religion in my country. But I sometimes envy people who have something in their lives that they truly believe in. I sometimes long for certainties and absolute truths, although I know I could never accept them. Unlike some atheists, I don't think there's something intrinsically wrong with religion (although many atrocities have been committed in the name of God), just that it's not for me.

Buddha - Buddha image in Sukhothai, Thailand.
Being a Buddhist I am in the happy situation of being religious and having no obligation to belive in or worship an individual god. Since I live in a community that is predominantly Buddhist I participate in all the festivals and rituals without the need for an underlying belief.

Hi mathikyu!!! Well, to talk about myself, I am spiritual but not very religious. Like you said, dividing of people in the categories of religion only brings war and violence. In the name of religion, people commit things that are worst than sins. It only surprises me why human beings being the most civilized being in this universe don't use their common sense. By this, it doesn't mean that I am against being religious. I am only opposing the negative sides of religion. I stated above that I am not religious. But still I born in a religious family and no matter what I need to undergo the formalities. At least it makes my mother happy though sometimes I get irritated. I am closer to the festivals, customs and traditions. So I don't really need to miss it. Festivals are the opportunity to meet the relatives and have some fun forgetting the busy schedule of life. Happy mylotting...Nice post...

not really, but knowing that there is someone higher that is taking care of you, it gives you the comfort or assurance that whatever happens in your life, everything would be fine.
