I never experienced this. Usually I mistook a mannequin as a human. She must have stood still and have a very good complexion for you and your sister to mistook her as a mannequin. You could say to her: "You are so pretty I thought you are a mannequin."

Hi Dear fjclolazy! I am bit confused about your whole story! She was standing there with the clothes on and standing! Was she standing therefor display? If yes, then I think such persons are also refered as Mannequins! She must have been a mannequin but not the inanimate one! In fact if you refer the dictionary you will see the word Mannequin is used for a woman who wears clothes for display as well it is used for a dummy which is used to display the clothes! from your discussion it seems that you have mistaken the live mannequin as the dummy like one! This must have been a terrible situation for both of you. But one thing is not clear for me, if you liked the dress you could have asked the salesperson to show the similar piece from their stock or could have asked him to help you to have that dress removed from the mannequin, instead you directly removing the dress! Well when you were approaching her still didn't say anything to you! Perhaps she was not suppose to do anything like that as she was a mannequin! Then, what happened next? Having shouted was she angry at you ?How did you react to the situation? What was the reaction of the on lookers? anyway,though it was an accident, it was real life comedy encountered by you! Please elaborate so that we can get exactly how you have misjudged a living mannequin as Dummy! Thanks for the discussion! It was funny but interesting one!

I can't picture trying to take a dress off a mannequin. Usually, I just look for the same thing hanging on the rack. I think I'd be really embarrassed if I were in that situation. I don't know if you could have tried to explain that you thought she was a mannequin. I think that would be enough to make me not to want to go shopping any more. Sorry it happened to you.

It happened to me once when I was in a bus returning home and I was seated near the window as I like looking outside and see things happening, that day I was next to my colleague when the bus stopped at a bus stand and I saw a little mannequin, it was a child, a little boy I would say who looked exactly like a mannequin I called my colleague just to tell her this when the boy turn to return in the shop. We continued to talk about this for a very long time as we both were baffled as to how alike he looked like the mannequin. Well in your case I would probably say that "oh I am sorry but I thought a mannequin, you looked so beautiful by the way" just to make her feel a bit praised and forget what I was doing.

OMG, how did you think that she was a mannequin? Did she look that plasticy, wow. I'm so sorry that happened to you though I can only imagine how awful that was! Wow, i'm so sorry. I hope she didn't keep yelling at you or anything. are you atleast ok?? I sure hope you are that can be so traumatic .

haa yes I have a few times, but never for more than a moment. I'm sorry that happened and I've never heard of that happening before. I hope the person was understanding. Was she standing still like a mannequin? That situation would be great for a comedy show.

Hi. fjcololazy. I am wondering why was this lady standing still like a mannequin anyway?? I would have been ashamed if I made this mistake too. I have been ashamed many of times in my life. Especially when someone calls my first name. I then found out that they was calling someone else. This makes me very ashamed.

That is really funny and no i have never done this before. After three hours of shopping i would be mad if i didnt find anything either and its funny you went up to a person to start undressing her because you liked the outfit she had on. I would feel totally embarrsed but maybe she souldnt stand or sit in a window of a shop to have people think she is a manequin. I dont have any shopping experiences that are funny. Probably only trying on things to try them on and when i get them on i cant move because there to small. I actually was by myself about a couple weeks ago in a platos closet in Florida where i live and i went to try something on and i got in but wasnt sure how i was getting it off and no one to help me but myself and i eventually got it off but my gosh it was hard.

This can be an embarrassing shopping moment! I can not tell you the number of times I have said excuse me for bumping into someone in a store. Then i find out I have just apologized to a mannequin. Quickly, i look around to see who was a witness to my folly. I can usually laugh about it later, but not at that moment. I just want to hide my shame!

That is some situation you got yourself into. If it were I, she may have called the police on me for molestation or something like that. LOL I think you will be recalling this incident for many years to come. It was funny I think. lol

It's hard to believe this story! I'm very surprise if you can't know the different between a true woman and a mannequin?

Thank God that didn't happen to me. Good thing she didn't hurled you with bad words for that. So what happened after that, did you apologize profusely and did she accept it? If i were in your shoes, perhaps in order to appease the lady after apologizing, i would ask her for a snack then maybe you could talk and just laugh at such mistake !

OMG! that's one of the funniest things iv'e heard in a while lol!!! but as i allway's say, " don't sweat the small stuff". I think everybody has had an embarrassing situation at some time in there life but it's not the end of the world right? Some day year's from now it will be one of those funny things in life that you can look back on and have a good laugh. I had a really bad day today, so thank's for your story. It acually made me feel better.

Well you didn't try to tell her, Oh I thought you were a mannequin. That's a really nice dress you have on, and your hair, your body, PERFECT! Sorry I thought you were a barbie! LOL Yeah that was kinda funny. Lesson learned. :)

now this really has put me in a great mood today after reading this. It sounds so funny. I would have loved to of been there and seen this happen, how did the lady react? how did you react? Was anything said after she shouted at you.? I have no idea as to what i would have done had this happened to me. Luckily this has never happened and a hope that i could tell the difference between a person and a mannequin. I guess the resemblance must have been amazing. Well, i guess you never bought the dress afterall? . Are you going to be more careful the next time you go shopping? Here we would not be allowed to remove items of clothing from the mannequines, they are for display only, if the clothing was to be removed then it would have to be by a member of staff so luckily i doubt i would ever experience this problem.
