Hi everyone! I was able to get into the online classroom for my newest class last night. I tried all day and it finally opened about 8pm last night. Now I can start reading the book so I can get the first week's assignments done before the class even starts. I already posted my introduction. My biggest concern is now that I am back in school I might not be able to spend as much time in here as I am right now. Fortunately, I only have to do one class at a time and each class is only 6 weeks. This means that while I still do three classes in an 18 week period, I only do one at a time so I can put my full attention on one class instead of three. I like doing classes online. Have any of you done classes online and if so, what did you think of them. If not, is there a reason why? Thanks.

Hi daeckardt, I have not but I have been researching this area, as I find that I would benefit more with my independent contracting work if I do. I have done a great deal of reading reviews and or complaints and it seems that I have found more positive reviews then negative. The negatives primarily were students who really did not prioritize and fell way back behind. It does take a great deal of discipline as a student will not be reminded and or encouraged to do well. I am definitely considering it, just trying to figure out the expense part as so far for the IT area is it way out of my financial league right now. Best of luck to you and well with myLot take a breather every now and again and come here to loosen up the thinking for a bit. Best of luck as I wish you a great success with that!

As far as the expense part, have you tried for financial aid? If you don't have a lot of money, you could get up to $20,000/year for student loans and if you are an undergraduate student, you could get up to $5500 for a pell grant. This could be used at any school that is accredited. There are many universities that offer online degrees (I mean like state schools if you don't trust the for-profit schools). You should still consider it if you want to make yourself more marketable!

Although my financial circumstances changed now from what it use to be, as in the past I have never qualified. That is one area I will explore as I am waiting to complete income taxes and am sure I will qualify then. I am so looking forward to getting started on this as it has been my intentions for so many years to go back to school and with the online convenience what better way. I was a tax paying citizen for so many years, so I figure it would be okay for me to get something in return. Thanks!

Hopefully you qualify now. It is really nice to be able to get money for education. I would go ahead and fill out a FAFSA as soon as you complete your taxes and see what you qualify for. Then you can look for a school. Or you could do it the other way around. Good luck!

Nope, I've not done any classes, well maybe modules for certain tech stuff from different companies when they have their new products being launched or about to launch. Other than, nope. I don't really like taking classes online as it's just one way & not really interactive.

I take it that the modules you did had no discussion boards. That is the one part of my online classes that I really enjoy because we not only get to know our classmates, but we can share our experiences as they relate to the material we are learning. It might not be the same as talking face-to-face with someone, but there is a lot of interaction. I have had classes that didn't have that part and it was a lot harder to deal with so I understand what you are talking about. Thanks for the response!

I have not done online classes. My husband did, several years ago. He is not that computer savvy and that was a problem for him. The other problem, in his case, is he is the type who needs the in class interaction to do well.

I have been doing online classes off and on since 2005. I find that I actually do better in this setting than in a classroom because I don't have to listen to lectures and try to figure out what is important. I get lots of interaction with students through the discussion boards, although I don't see them every week. I actually participate in online discussions whereas in a classroom, I was often afraid to speak because something I might say could be wrong. While it works well for me, it definitely is not for everyone. That is one of the things that was talked about in my last class. Thanks for the response!

I haven't done college online but my son is doing online college. There is good and bad about online college to him like there is with everything in this world. He likes not having to go anywhere to go to college and to be able to start at anytime he wants each day. What he doesn't like is not getting breaks like regular college. He only gets 2 weeks off for Christmas and goes the rest of the year. So, he gets burned out real easy.

I understand that. I got the two weeks off for Christmas also, but then they had to change my schedule because the class that was supposed to start right after the last one was canceled so I got another two week break. It's ok because I needed to rest. But I'm ready to continue. Even though this next class doesn't start until Tuesday, I'm already done with half the work for the week. Thanks for the reply!

I haven't had an online class ever.Because my school is lack of condition,so they can't support an online class. But it is really a good news if we have one.I'm a little bit lazy, having an online class then I can have a good rest. Now I have to get up very early to catch the bus.
