Being able to travel

People with school children in my home country are expected to take their kids on vacation during the school holidays but prices are so much more expensive then. If the head teacher agrees permission for up to ten days off school for a vacation. When my disabled son joins school I am going to have to book my flights very much in advance and use some school holiday time and some term time if I can get the head teacher to okay it. Have you ever booked a trip months in advance? Would you be happy to book a last minute flight because it is cheap? Are you restricted to travel only at particular time of year?

Yes, at times I need to book a trip especially accommodation months ahead. My husband bought time sharing accommodations which we need to book at least 2 months ahead. We did that for our trip to Malaga, Spain. Recently I just reserved a trip for June 2011 to Singapore. That means I am booking 3 months in advance. It seems the ticket for the Universal Studio Singapore is also very fast sold out. Many tourists have to book months in advance to secure the tickets. I normally have to travel during school holiday since my son is still schooling. The disadvantage of traveling during school holiday is it is peak season (more expensive and crowded). Happy holiday :)

I generally only travel during school holiday periods, which makes the ferry with my big van astronomically expensive. I try and book as early as possible to confirm a cheaper day, but I don't think it makes much difference.

I usually book my travel when I see a good deal and then work out my sons holidays accordingly. I do not need to get permission from the school, just as long as I let them know.It is usually only a matter of 10 days or so he will miss ,so thats o.k.I could not afford to travel in school holiday time as it is so expensive, except we may go to sunny Queensland and stay with my friend there .Cheers SUE

Hi, Going for family holiday is always feel great, but most of the time the air ticket may not be that cheap when come to school holiday time. Unless there is an advance sales for certain budget airlines, then you need to book the flight few months earlier and get cheaper fares. For me, my husband always plan for holiday trip in advance,by the time we got to know there will be sales on ticket air fares, then we will make an early booking, and we managed to get cheaper fares. Or else, without those air fare promotions, the ticket price are extremely very expensive. I don't like to book air ticket on last minutes basis and for sure, there won't be any cheaper fare left. I am fine to travel on certain times only as with kid around, they need to go school on certain times too.

My kids go to a semi-private school. So there is really no problems if they have to miss school for a period of time because we want to go on vacation. I know that it might get more difficult as they get older, but as of now we take advantage. We would book vacations way ahead of time, and get permission from the school when the day of travel gets closer.

Booking in advance can give us a lot of savings because of the fare promos that some airlines are giving, but sometimes, you will be constraint to travel on certain days.

Well India is a free country, and nobody can stop people from travelling any time of the year. Of course some schools do not allow the children to travel, when the schools are working. But then the parents have so many ways to get over it. As far as India is considered, it is a must to book your tickets either in the train or by flight, if you want to travel. Usually none of the trains have seats or berths, and most of them run fully. Usually at times, when we were not able to get the seats in Trains, we used to travel by bus, but even that has become a problem. If this is the case during the ordinary days, you can imagine, how it will be during the Annual, half yearly and quarterly school holidays, and they during our main festivals like Pongal and Deepavalli, and then of course during the Christmas and the New year.

So far I've been booking trips in advance. I would like to try out spontaneous trip at the last minute if possible. The only restriction to travel is my work.

Unless a student is ill and has a Dr's note, all reasons for missing school are considered illegal absenses here. If I wanted to do what you're doing and had a child, I'd have to home school.

I think every time, I always booked in advance. I think I would like to book at last minutes so I don't have to anticipate it long ahead.

In my country things are different id you go to a government school than if you go to a private school. And private schools have different rules also. I had my children in private schools because during Pinochet times, government shools were terrible. I jumped over all rules then to have each one of my girls go for one year to another country. I´m sure ther elarned a lot more than what they "lost". At a private school you can take the children away from school for one to two weeks if you talk with the teacher and promise to turn in some homework when they arrive. That is not difficult because I have found that I´m able to teach a lot quicker that at school. I like cheap advance flight but those can be taken at certain times of the year.

I think this is a good form,if can attend, children should be very pleased. So many children together, atmosphere must be very very cheerful ,that kind of happy atmosphere is difficult to use money to measure!

With the advent of the low cost carriers, I have learned how to plan trips in advance. Most of the low cost carriers release their much awaited promos at a certain month and have the flight dates 6 months to 1 year after. I don't mind though if it is a long wait because their fares are so low that you wouldn't mind if your trip won't push thru in the future. But it would be better if it goes on as planned. I would be very much pleased if I can book a last minute flight that is cheap because it rarely happens. As for the time of year when I travel, it would work for me to travel during the lean season since it is when the prices are at its lowest.

well,I like travelling. But I can't take a vacation until the school holiday. So I ONLY have time rest in summer and winter. However there is the Spring Festival in winter holiday so it's hard to get a ticket because many people return to home in this festival. Thus i can only plan my travel in summer. Usually, I don't have a plan and I often travel by train.

In my country the students are also supposed to spend their vacation during the school holidays, but if the parents ask the head teacher for permission the children might be able go on a vacation before or after the school holidays. I once did that when I was a student, because my parents and I were going to a big birthday party in another part of the country. When I am going on vacation I have to plan it some time in advance. My husband and I have many pets and we have to find petsitters when we are going away. We also have to take some time off work, so there are several things that we have to plan before we can leave. Sometimes you can get a cheap last minute flight, but we have never gone on that kind of trip, because we have to plan our trips in advance.

I have booked 2 years in advance and I would never do this again as I cpuldnt travel and had to give my tickets away. When I booked I was only 17 and thought 2 years time I should have enough savings for a truley fantastic holiday woth my friends. I then met my husband about 6 months later and fell pregnant about 5 months after that... I now have 2 little girls who arent yet school age and we always book last minute. We go on many weekend trips to all sorts of places and its always a last minute decision, normally on the Thursday before. We all like it this way. I have no patience and hate planning things because they always go wrong! With last minute you have no expectations and it can be done when everyones free!
