Time Travel Will Be Possible!

Hello everyone. Recently, I have learned something mind-blowing. In physics class this week, my teacher had been describing "time" as a variable in great depth. Later on, after the boring part of the lecture, he added that time travel will be possible. Of course, I instantly dismissed this idea as impossible. He then mentioned that you can travel into the future, but not to the past. I had no clue what he meant by that, but it got my attention. What he basically said: The speed of light in the fastest speed. Nothing can achieve a speed greater than that. It is approachable, but cannot ever be reached. When someone, or something, comes close to reach this speed, time ticks slowly for him, her, or it. I wondered what he meant by this. Apparently, Albert Einstein had discovered this way back. A human's biological system will slow down according to the speed they are moving at. So why doesn't everyone just stay in airplanes all the time? Well, airplanes go nowhere near the speed of light. It will only help you for a few extra seconds in your life. Anyway, I was beyond words at this point. I could not believe him. However, he told us that it was not possible yet, because no vehicle could move nearly as fast as the speed of light. There is a term called terminal velocity, which will be explained in greater depth if you google it. XD It basically describes your max speed. An example of what would happen is: -A person would travel into space at close to light speed -this person would come back with a round trip time period of 4 years -time would pass on earth, but your own biological system would be slowed -*mind blown* -When you came back, everyone could be so much older, you wouldn't recognize them. Personally, I found this amazing. I could not believe this. There is actually a hope of building a "time machine", the high speed vehicle. Well, actually, there might not be. However, were a vehicle to be made fulfilling these requirements, it would be truly amazing. What are your thoughts?

Its true the idea of time travel is possible the main flaw though is the fact that the energy required to propell you into the future you amy just destroy the planet . The required energy and vehicle are all that is missing in the jigsaw of moving forward in time as for getting back in time the theory leans towards suggesting it's not possible . So if time travel does develop initially then we will never be able to come back think about it though someone may have already accomplished moving forward in time the only problem though is they can't return home to tell us how

I had not thought of this. You bring up a good point. However, light travels at the speed of light, and does almost no damage to the earth. In fact, it helps the earth. Perhaps in the future, they will create a new material that can withstand the speed and will not damage the earth. If not, they can always ship the vehicle to the moon, then launch it from there. :3

It's not the light/lightspeed that does the damage in actual fact it's the potential energy needed which causes the problems . As for your solution whilst very possible it could just lead to further implications . So managing to find a safe way to achieve such a goal is near impossible unless they can get something to keep the energy contained .

Potential energy is the product of 1. Mass 2. Gravity 3. Height Potential energy doesn't really affect the speed. I think you mean kinetic energy, which the formula for is Half of mass multiplied by the velocity squared And I see what you mean. It will be very difficult, if possible at all.

yes!!! I accept that one can go to the future and come back with your explanation! I feel the going into the past is also possible!! there r several paradoxes which say about this!! Moreover, anything which our mind/ brain cannot imagine of becomes impossible to us!! Ones our inner mind accepts it, it becomes possible! One of such unacceptable fact is the presence of more than 3 dimensions!!

the entire universe is within your mind!... did THAT blow it enough?

ikr? It's not possible to travel back to the past. At least, it will be impossible for many millenniums. And real life is in three dimensions. XD

Looks like you're mixing-up "reality" and "perception." When I see my niece, I travel back in time to when I was about her age and was good friends (thru a chain-link fence) with the girl 'next-door.'

And exactly what does a time traveller look like? Just because you don't see time travellers from the future, does not meant that time travel into the past is impossible as there are several other possible explanations for why we don't see time travellers from the future. In the first place, the technology of might not be advanced enough to allow of travelling in time. In the second place, any such time travellers are not likely to be wandering about in silver body suits (or whatever) No, they'd look just like anyone else..

I mean that 'we are ALL time-travelers, making our way through the future together.' The light-speed travelers you mention: they do not actually arrive at a different point in time, they just (in their own 'perception') don't take as long to get to it. Kind of like Han Solo (of STAR WARS Millennium Falcon) bragging about how he 'made the Kessel Run in the lowest number of parsecs' (parsecs being a unit of length, not time). Maybe he arrived at the same time as everyone else, but he delivered fastest & used the least fuel! So we CAN evade the damage 'time' does, but we cannot alter it through anything but our own and others' perceptions.

What do you mean by "mixing-up "reality" and "perception"? Time travel to the future will be possible, eventually, I hope. All it requires is the speed. It's not that simple, but close to it =P It's also not possible to travel back in time. We would know it by now, because people would be traveling back in time often. Nothing now, so nothing in the future. It's a very confuzzling theory.

This type of stuff amazes me, but seeing close to reality it's quite scary. Theres so many floors to time travel, every action you make in the past would have huge impacts on the world going back forward in time. Time travel could be disastrous.

Definitely! However, remember that you can't travel back in time. You can only "travel" somewhat into the future. Were we able to travel back in time, we would know by now. People from the future would be seeing us, from the past. Or maybe we have been watching too many movies. XD

I cannot rule out this idea of time travel yet. I think the speed of light is the highest speed known to man in today science, however there might be greater speeds than light waiting to be discovered by other Einstein's and more shocking revelations will be unveiled. However, if we could have vehicles at this speed, we would still need to tackle the problem of G-forces that will severely damage our brain!

It is true that the speed of light is the fastest speed in the universe. There is nothing faster that exists, or at least that we know of. Were we to create a vehicle that could travel at these speeds, the inside must obviously be made carefully so that we will not be killed while accelerating.

For me, i have only one thing to share that time travel is impossible. Why? because now is the present for us right? so we are the future of the past... so if time travel is trully possible, there should be a person now to testify that he traveled from the present..because his/her present is our past and our time tody is their present..

Hey, I don't really understand what you are saying. Perhaps you are trying to explain how there is never something called the "present". It is a very confusing theory, as I have said before, but will make sense after you wrap your mind around it.

What he describes is time dilation not time travel. It just means that time for the guy in the space ship is slower then the time on earth. Instead of the guy on the space ship teleporting to the future he just fast forward time which makes it look like he time traveled. Time only goes in one direction. Going to the past and future is impossible. To go to the future you have to skip time otherwise you aren't time traveling. Its no more the same then you being in a room where you have fun while your friend is in the waiting room. Time goes fast for you while for your friend time goes slow.

Thanks for clearing it up. My physics had only used the term "time travel" to capture out attention. However, remember that time is not slower in space. Time is slower when moving close to the speed of light; you can be on the earth provided you can navigate around things at that speed. I only used earth as an example because there are not as many things to hit in the outer space than on earth. Thank you for bringing in the word "time dilation." It was in my head, but I couldn't quite place what it was, until you posted. =D

time travel,i only know of soul travel that is happening now and constantly, this practice is taught in eckankar, and u visit the past, present and future, lets think logically here about time travel where is the the future, this is the future here and now u mean if we could c what the next generation is going to b like u r looking at it creative, anyway if u do want to travel in the future check eckankar and get the discourses,

Wow! That's quite a very interesting theory/ fact you've shared with us. It was nice to know about this information on time travel. I think it could be possible when man's intelligence would be able to comprehend how time travel works and build something that would make it possible. Maybe in a few decades or so. it will be plausible. I wish though that when they'll build such a time machine, I' still be around and that the machine they're going to invent would also get us to travel to the past and not only to the future.

Most people cannot comprehend this. Most people think of time traveling from movies. While movies are not always 100% fictional, most of it is. I believe that this type of technology will not be available for decades, centuries, or further. Definitely not with this rate of growth in the modern world.

Physics can really be amazing sometimes. It was one of my favorite subject when I was at high school and was actually considering to major on it but I did not. The time travel my teacher told us before was different from this. What my teacher was focusing back then is how can you reduce or increase the speed of time. According to him, and which we are all familiar of, time reduces its speed whenever we are doing nothing. You would always say when you are bored or just staring at walls that time seems to be so slow. On the otherhand, When you are busy and have ma lot of thing in hand, time ticks faster. Of course, this is just what you call the illusion of time. Since you are not doing anything, time appears to be slowly moving and you could feall that. And when there's a lot of things to do, you do not feel the need to be concern at the time so time appears to be running faster.

In my opinion Time Travel is possible if we could make large amount of energy, as much as the sun have. Only then it would be possible to travel through time. Secondly new research is that Einstein was wrong, light is not the fastest thing rather Neutrino is the fastest thing in this universe. That create a hope that in near future we can travel through Time.
