Sometimes I guess one needs a wake up call to put things in their proper place. To remember what one should really be grateful for and to not sweat the small stuff. We had had a lovely Valentine p arty here on the 14th and the next day was okay. I was stewing about how so ma ny times one day here is like any other day.So I was not really careful. I had my quad cane in my right hand and a small sack of potato chips and sodas in the other. I was hurrying to the elevator, bent of snacking on chips and rootbeer, and not looking at the floor.Suddenly painfully I thought of my God I have fallen, I still do not know what caused it but have a hunch there was something spilled on the floor. Blood was pouring off my face and I had more attention immediately. Finally after one very painful night they called my doc tor and I was admitted to CarehOuse. I had a fractured nose which was really the only place on me that did not hurt. My right knee was badly twisted and I could not bear my weight on it so the past 20 days I have been having physical therapy on my knee so I could walk again. Now I am back and using a walker finally. At last I can walk with very little pain but am going to be super careful from now on. I missed my computer and mylot so much. Have you noticed its the bad things that come up that finally make us notice how good we all really have it?

Oh Hatley I am so happy to see you back again, I missed you... A fractured nose sounds awfully painful, I hope you are more careful in the future, mylot has not been the same since you left.. To answer your question, yes I have noticed that when I am down and feel bad about my life that something happens to change my outlook..I think it's referred to a "wake up call" like you said..

hi carmelanirel oh I had been bi.tching about how so often one day seems like another here . so I was in a cranky mood and was not checking the floor as I usually do so I stepped into something slick and down I went and it was over in seconds. I was bleeding somethiong fierce from a cut above my right eye and one above my nose. oddly my nose was the one place where it did not hurt.I was in CareHouse 20 days counting today. I am so glad to be back.Although I had not fallen since 5 years ago I should have been careful to check the floor. mine is not the first fall that people have had here. a friend of mine fell and broke his wrist so badly he had to have a steel plate put in his arm.Residents carry coffee and water and splash it on the tiled floor. It should be mopped up at once but does not happen.Usually I have glanced to be sure I am not walking in a puddle of wet stuff but I missed that evening

yep all in one piece too thank Goodness. I did have to take one pain pill bu t as I had not had one all day I am so much better. the fall twisted my knee and since the bones were not broken nobody at the first ER realized I was really injured although I was in such pain. so Christine our medical gal here called my primary care doc tor and he sent me to Care house for therapy on that leg. I can walk again and bear to put weight on it which I could not do for ten days. so am really glad to be back here. I realized that the few things here that irritate me are small stuff. I am quitting sweating the small stuff and relax and appreciate how much I do have.I guess one just takes things like walking and moving without pain for granted until whop something happens

I was going to call your nurse again tomorrow, I was so worried about you in the last two weeks that I called your residence to make sure. You have a wonderful nurse there who when I mentioned myLot knew where I was talking about. After my call there last week I was so relieved I am so happy to see you back on the lot with your wonderful wisdom. Do take it easy so the knee does not act up.

hi hardworkinggurl I have been taking it pretty easy as theres still osme pain so if I take a pain pill when it first starts then I am fine. it is so good to be back a nd mylotting again. I missed that so much and it gets so boring in a hospital just sitting. thank goodness I had my own television there. we all three had these tvs in our room so I really splurged in watching all my favorite programs. lol I am only walking enough to get to meals for now.

I have been missing you and didn't know who to call and find out if you were all right. I'm glad you are alright, but sorry you took a fall and got laid up! broken nose! ouch! I can barely stand to have much touch my nose, probably part of those old shallow sinuses I have!

hi elic bxn oh I missed everyone and the net too. the funny thing is my nose is the one thing that does not hurt.also since my fall I can breathe better than I have for years. I guess it moved something as I can breathe now better than ever and I had a deviated septum.I do have two lumps above my right eye that are still swollen and sore. I had two huge shiners but they are gone now except for two small black semi circles under eaxh eyes. My right knee got twisted though and was so painful and now I can bear to walk on it again. This put me in a walker but it really does help as I feel more stable.I think the physical therapy was the bright spot of my day as I could feel my knee getting better. also the staff there was terrific also.It feels so good to get back here.

Oh, Patsie - I am so sorry that this happened to you. What a nightmare it must have been for a short time. Was the blood from your nose? I can only imagine how much you're hurting, but THANK GOD you were somewhere that help was almost instantly available!! And, yes - without the bad, we take the good for granted and lose our appreciation for it. There is an odd sort of balance in the world, isn't there? We might not realize it, but without it, everything would be so bland.

hi jerzgirl oh yes it was scary and I kept thinking because my right knee hurt so badly that I had broken my leg but no just my nose. oddly my nose is not painful.Oh the blood was from two cuts one of the bridge of my nose and the other right above my right eyebrow. I didnt know anything like that could bleed so much. once I got into bed in the rehab hospital I found my nose was full of dried crusted blood. I' really did luck out as only my nose was broken.Oddly just before it happened I had been grumbling about every day being the same and nogthing interesting ever happened. well I just did not realize how good I had it. thank goodness no more surprises like that. yes I had plenty of help. unlike five years ago when I fell beside my favorite restaurant and broke my shoulder. five people just gawked at me but one couple came over and called the paramedics for me as they saw I must have broken something as my left arm was just dangling. also they stayed with me and kept talking to me until the paramedics arrived.

I'm so sorry you had that experience. I can sort of understand not knowing what to do for you directly, but to not even call paramedics is totally unacceptable. How people can sit and merely observe is beyond me!

Oh lovely! What would he have done if you'd said yes, I wonder!?? It's possible that the diabetes is causing just enough neuropathy that you feel the pain more intensely. I know it's like that for me these days. Just get well, Patsie! We want to hear more from you!

Hi Hatley! It is good to see you back here again. I was worried that something had happened to you as I had not seen you here for such a long time. I am sorry to hear about your fall and the pain that you have been in, but I am glad that you are on the mend and back to your MyLotting self again. Yes, sometimes we have to smell the manure first in order to be able to smell the roses. I went through some stuff last year, which made me realise just how much of a rut I had gotten myself into. I needed to enjoy what I had more and not stress so much about the little things. This is something that I continually have to work on to avoid the big issues hitting me again.

hi Rawbill yes indeed love your simile and yes sometimes we need to smell the manure first so we can enjoy the roses. Sometimes life seems to happen to teach us not to stew and sputter over every little thing. I was grumbling just before the fall about how bland and uninteresting life at Gold C rest was. Now I am glad that it goes along smoothly and even mundanely as thats a log better than smacking the floor with one's face and getting hurt and all.I also find that sitting here mylotting makes me forget my aches and pains too as I am concentrating on what I am doing and on other than myself too. I also have been a stewer and have sweat so muc h over small stuff. I need to buy that book and reread it occasionally.

Hi Hatley, I just sent you a long message and mylot threw me into a new registration for some reason. I've been out of commission too but am backnow. I am so tickled you are up and about now. I had two falls too after my heart surgery and scared the living day lights out of me. I understand how you feel and I know too that every day is more precious now than ever. We see things much more beautiful and loving don't we? We have great friends and girl, we are older but much wiser. I hope you stay UP LOL and me too for that matter :) Glad you are back and I am back with mylot too if they just let send his message without a lot of hullabaloo LOL So thankful you are back ! hugs, quita

hi quita don't those falls really scare you and then you get a fear of falling again. Heart surgery wow. Yes after that kindof surgery it would make you look at your life more carefully but hope you are okay now. falls are so scary and you just feel so helpless like thinking how come I cou ld not have saved myself from this.this life itself is more precious than ever to me now and I am so grateful I did not break my leg or my knee. I know in time my knee will be fine again and I think being back here and non mylot will help speed up the process.Hope you are okay now with your heart. I have been so lucky to have not had heart problems as being a diabetic and overweight makes one more prone to have heart problems. I am so glad to be back and glad you are back too.

I was what I thought was a healthy person and when the heart attacks...two of them hit me in four days time, you really do get to thinking about life in a better light. My mama had just passed with lung cancer that had spread to her brain , so life took it's toll. We moved back to Oklahoma and I had some more troubles with breathing and went to my new cardiologist and then to a heart surgeon.......a double bypass surgery. Now, that is something one will never forget....... I am great now. I feel as tho God has plans for me to do yet and my time has not come. I think God wants me here for my three grandsons but who knows. Last week I had the colonoscopy I've been afraid of for a long time, but with the plavix for my heart I couldn't do it...............yuk but after mama dying of cancer, and I'd had some changes, I knew I'd better get my bottom to a gut dr. My cardiologist took me off the plavix for only five days and I'm doing great now. I had great news on the colonoscopy too ! Nothing that couldn't be fixed.Just a change of diet :) and I do not have to go back for five years ! As to the falling, I understand completely. I have taken a few falls myself and believe me it's the feeling of being totally out of control isn't it? You can feel it coming and for a split second, you think, oh my God, but you hit and somehow you live........pain and all, broken or not, but sure gives one new sense of life around us ! You take care, and I am glad to be back too. It's so good to have friends like you !!! quita

Oh my goodness, gee whiz. So sorry to hear that you hurt yourself. Glad that your on the mend. Could you have tripped over the cane? My mom tried to use one of those quad canes, she kept tripping over it. I hope you heal fast and your knee and nose feel better. You are so right about not knowing how good you have it until something happens. Take care and be extra careful, no more falling. Happy to see you back..

I am so glad to be bac k and able to mylot again. I am now very careful I wondered too if I had tripped over my cane. there is a deep grove on the floor where I fell and am now wondering if maybe my cane hit something solid and thus caused me to lose my balance. anyway all is well that ends well. Hi again, Hatly Buena means good, so it´s good life. It is the name of my small business and as I work with health products and other positive things, I thought that name could cover a lot of things.. Have to be flexible as I may have to change the things I work with.. It is a good thing that you are feeling better. Yes, continue being careful.. And please try not to walk with your nose any more, it is not made for that purpose..

Wow Hatley, you're lucky you weren't more seriously hurt! I fell three times last year--twice in the shower in June and down entire flight of wooden steps last July 5th. I was frightened after falling the second time in the tub because I fell forward face first and nearly hit the faucet with my face. The steps just plain hurt--my butt isn't very fat, so I felt each and every step! Thank God I had the next week off to rest--I could barely move for two days! Glad to see you're back--get well soon!

hi se7enthbird you are so right as I was hurrying along bound to get upstairs with my sack of potato chips and soda. well tonight I finally get to eat them. I have learned to slow down and relax and not fret small things. I am so grateful that I did not break anything else but my nose.I twisted my knee badly but no breaks there. Oddly my nose has never given me any pain at all.Usually I walk slowly through the hall as so many carry cups of coffee and coke and spill drops along the floor. they seldom mop up their spills either. So I am back and my black eyes have pretty much faded out.

just lost my response.ugh. copy paste. my nose really does not hurt now but oh how it bled and I had two horribly black eyes. yes here where there are so many people with varying stages of health physical and mental you must be careful and watch the floor. I kid you not I almost stepped on a large turd and it sure was not a dog turd, and people behind me were going hey move it and I am yelling just wait theres a turd on the floor. oh my g it was huge too. so who knows what can be seen so yes I have to be a lot more careful.I check the floor all the time now as I do not want to do this again.

Oh Hatley! That is just terrible! I'm glad you are doing better and back on now. I think there are things that happen that make us see how good we have it. I know that I often think and pray...I know how good I have it...please...no wake up calls. I've had enough of those for a hundred years I think. I think its a shame that sometimes people never get wakeup calls when they should and then some people get wakeup calls all the time. Take care Hatley and be careful.

I'm so sorry to hear that you've been through this the last several weeks. However, I also think that you really are onto something here about how something bad does have to happen to us from time to time so that we are able to fully realize how lucky we are with those things that we have in our lives. For us, things have been going generally well recently, but a friend of mine's cousin is in terrible shape right now and really has got me both praying for the cousin and also counting my blessings.

hi dorannmwin I have found out something this week, I am not ready yet to resume my old schedule so I will just not do anything but take pain pills amd stay off my leg. the pain must be telling me to slow down and let nature heal me. I am really lucky as I look back because falling face down I could have broken a hip or fractured my skull. my nose is broken but it does not hurt in my nose just above my right eye.I think sometimes wrenching a joint like your knee actually takes as long or longer than a clean break to heal. but the pain pill worked so am okay for now. and mylotting really does relax me too.

First off, thank goodness you're back! This fall would explain why you were not in here for quite a while. You've been missed. In fact, a discussion was even raised about your absence. Thank goodness that one angel in here made sure that you were OK. I think we need those 'bad things' once in a while to truly appreciate where we are and how much we really have.

So I am not going to complain any more but juist be glad its all calm and no bad things happening. lol

Garden Gerty doing happy dance as we finally know what happened to Hatley. I am glad that HWG had at least done some investigating. I was imagining the worst. I even tried to explain to someone that we had misplaced you once before and we certainly do not want to do that again. So do I understand that now they want you using a walker, not a quad cane? hi garden Gerty yes I just did one in my head when I got back here and everyone was asking if I was okay. my broken nose does not even hurt andf my knee is so much better. when I went to Care house I could not bear to put my weight on that knee and now with my walker I can again walk. Its just a tiny bit sore but nothing at all like when I first hurt myself.one thing about the walker it does slow me down so I actually check the floor for obstacles of any kind.Yes I will have to have a less painful way of seeing the stars. lol lol

I am so sorry to hear about your accident and I hope you have a speedy recover. I slipped on my kitchen floor 5 years ago and was not found until 3 or 4 days later. I was given three hours live and then as I did not die was told I would never walk again. After 4 months of intense rehabilitation and a lot of praying I was allowed to go back home. So I am very much aware of how good my life is and I thank the Lord every morning and every night for my wonderful second chance at life. I shall pray that you do not suffer any lasting effects.

Hatley I too have a family member who does not believe. I have tried to explain just how much and full my life is knowing I have a an all loving Heavenly Father who has protected me, provided for me and have performed so many visible miracles for me. I shall pray for your son as he is missing so much in his life. I think there was a reason or a lesson to be learned why the one kitchen person whom you used to get irritated at was the first to actually come to your aid.

hi whitefeather oh wow that would be so awful to fall and not be found. so my complaining about being just one of many here came home to roost. within seconds of my fall I was being helped by some of the kitchen staff and fellow residents and C hristine our medical person called the paramedics as she wanted my forehead X rayed. I had a broken nose but no other broken bones. My right knee however was twisted and was so painful I could not walk on it. I prayed that I would not have any lasting effects and outside the bruises and a now just sore knee I think I lucked out. my biggest fear has always been a fall that would cause my bionic shoulder joint to separate but this fall just made my left shoulder ache. its not broken.I am so sorry you had to be all alone for so long. so again I have all these people arou nd me to be thankful for instead of grousing about them.Like you I did a lot of praying and I know He hears us. My son does not believe and I am so sad for him as how can anyone not believe? so I am back and hurting a little but not a lot. The one kitchen person whom I used to get irritated at was the first to actually come to my aid. She kept mopping up the blood from the two cuts on my brow and my nose.

Yes, I have noticed. I'm sorry to hear that you have been so badly hurt! I'm equally as glad that you are better now. I know that must have hurt so bad. The physical therapy they put you through hurt too. But that all behind you now you can watch each step now....oh an no more rushing to get around and slipping in wet stuff. Hind sight is always 20/20. lol I have always been doing the most simple things when I have gotten a broken ankle (3 times) and a broken wrist (on both sides) I was in a contraption that I call robo-cop. I was not allowed to put my foot on the floor to step down the first time for fear of snapping the tiny little fraction of bone holding the foot onto my ankle that was the same thing with my hand and the reason for the contraption. If either of those slithers of bones snapped I would of had to had surgery and pins to put them back together again. So when I do something I do it good. The thing is I was just walking when it happened the first time, down the steps and there I go, head first down the steps to the ground. So crazy things happen to us all.

hbi moondancer yes I was thinking as I realized I was about to hit the floor face first about the fall that caused me to have to have a shoulder joint replacement. my son said you would have been better off not to throw your arm out and just fall on your face. He admitted now seeing the damage that falling face down was horrible. My eyes were really blace and blue and I broke my nose.oddly it does not even here. I have two painful welts above my right eye though. I was just hurrying to the elevator . the fall that broke my shoulder was beside my favorite restaurant , just going about eating out. So now my fear of falling has doubled but I am now using a new walker

I hate it that you got hurt so badly . I mean you really got it!!! I hope you heal up real good and real soon. I learned longed time a go that those elevators go up and down and they come and go. I can wait a couple of minutes or even if those doors have shut and I push that button the doors will open if it has not left yet and I will be able to get on the one that is there ans the doors just shut. I learned not to be in a hurry. I was listening to a song I don't know the name of it but it says something like why do we rush, why do we hurry do to the things we do. Why don't we just slow down. I also have that thing in my head stop and smell the roses. I use to rush all the time to do everything. Now I have slowed down and it took some doing for me to do that but I did it. But I get hurt less and I am at ease much more.

I know I had to use one for awhile. I did not like it much because I could not get use to it, lol. Me and my not having patience at that time. I wish you luck with that. WWith I was trying to learn to slow down I would take my mind to that song, I told you about. What's every body rushing around for, why can't they just slow down. I did slow down but it took some doing.

Oh, gosh, I am hoping for a speedier recovery for you, Hatley! You really should be careful next time. I got this feeling when I lost my phone. You know? This adage, "missing the water only when it's gone". Not that I wished any harm for that phone but I admit I had been negligent not just on it but on so many things. Now that it was stolen without any chance of getting retrieved, I kinda miss that old, faded and overused, but highly functional cellphone.

hi theresaaiza yes me too but I am much better than when I e ntered' Care House. my son loves his cell phone but somehow over this past year he has lost four cell phones. and had one stolen but he had some sort of thing that pinpointed the theft and made his stolen phone unusable to the thief. I am getting better slowly but steadily and thats good. I miss not being able to just walk swiftly like I used to but know I have to be more careful so I am slowing down and looking on the floor now. lol lol

hi theresaaiza I am getting better and better, but usind the quad cane is out as it hurts my knee so much now that I am glad to have the walker nowl. I am trying now to get off the Pauline pills but its hard when I keep getting little sharp nagging pains beside the knee cap. But I am down to two pain pills a day and will cut down soon again,

Unfortunately my phone doesn't have that feature. But it doesn't matter now. What's important is that I never really lost much. About you, I am really hoping for your speedy recovery. Just balance rest and therapy and you'll be up and about like you used to.

we do relly miss the things we do or someone when something happened to us. like praying, we remember our lord when we are in pain, when we are experiencing difficulties, when we lost someone, when we are sick, when we ask for help... etc. but in good times or when we are ok, we could even seldom pray and thank Him for the blessings that we receive. i do remember those days when i was on top... even some friends i barely communicated with. but when i lost my fortune, i realized i needed someone to talk to, someone to be with me and most of all, a shoulder to cry on. then i realize, i still have my mom who is always there for me and shares her unconditional love. now, whatever comes... i am more appreciative of little things and the people who are dear to me. hope u are well and take care... you will heal with God's graces.

send2Noel hi I remember when I was sitting up and scared and hurting I prayed that I would not be badly injured and I know he listened. as hard as I fell I could have broken a leg or arm or worse a hipbut although my nose is sore and my knee much more sore I am so lucky and I know He did watch over me.odd as you say when we are in any kine of trouble we do pray, so sometimes I realize I can pray for ]others when my life is going good not just pray when I am in trouble. thanks to all you mylotters prayers I escaped any really bad injuries. I am in pain but its much better than it was and I am healing.
