My mum used to tell me that it was bad to sleep with your hair wet, she said it would give us very bad headaches when we were older and she was an example. Could this really be true?

Yes my mum also tell me that. I did that everyday when I was a kid now I wait until my hair dry then I go to sleep. Its uncomfortable to sleep with wet hair though.

I am a boy and I don't have a problem with that because i have short hair. But my wife is always drying her hair before going to sleep because she is not going to like her hair in the morning.

Guys always have it easy...it's also cheaper to get their hair done as well!

I heard this saying before, and sometimes after I washed my hair and didn't get it dry, I may feel cold on my head and even a little headache afterwards, guess it is true. Better not sleep with wet hair. Also, it would give you a terrible hair style after you awake the next morning.:) Take care.

Thanks for this, I've actually slept with my hair wet quite a few times, and usually I feel more tired in the morning - probably you would get a poorer quality of sleep with the cooler temperature disturbance from the wet hair...

I've heard many stories about catching a cold while sleeping with wet hair. From my own experience I think it's true. If I do this, I wake up with a stuffy nose and all. I know that would naturally cause a headache. Now as for getting them when you get older, I'm not sure that's true unless it has something to do with recurrent colds or something.

That's true. Bellapop. I used to sleep with my wet hair when I was teenager. But after I graduate from university,I often feel not good in my head.Sometimes when I in my office,I will feel the headaches. Now I am only wash my hair in the morning before I go out.And if I have to wash it before go sleep,I will wait until it was dry. Good news is I'm feel better now,no more headaches. At least not so much I think.

I have only heard it could give you a cold, but since we now know that you cant get a cold just from wet or cold...that kicks that to the side! I do it all the time, have for years. My hair is long and to wash it in the morning and spend so much time drying it nad using the hair dryer and all the damage that can do to the hair and having to get up 1/2 hour earlier and all...I just wash at night and it dries just fine, then a curling iron, flatiron or electric rollers make it great in the morning!

I don't think that it's necessarily a bad thing to do. It's something that I do a lot. Actually, I don't even own a blow dryer. It's not really something that I use a lot, or anything like that.

Hi bellapop, i do not like to sleep with my hair wet. Even if it does not give me a headache, the hair still looks awful after waking up in the morning, then I have to wash it again to straighten it out. I think the older people have more experience in this matter. Personally I think it is ok to sleep with your hair wet, as long as you do not switch on the fan or the air conditioner.

For me yes but only because I have really long and thick hair and while it is wet it weighs more. So to an extent it does give me headache because I feel the pressure on my hair when it is wet.

I have heard this as well, but I have never managed to find out if it is actually true or not. I think it's not, but I am not completely sure...

I don't know if it's bad or not but for me it definitely is bad. I think what your mom says is somewhat true. If i sleep with my hair wet, the next day i have an awful headache. So i really avoid sleeping with my hair wet.

Sometimes it's true but I think it depends mostly on our organism. For example, I've been suffering severe headaches almost every day or every other day and no pill can help. But exactly the mornings after I went to bed with my hair wet, I'm OK, no headaches. I love going to bed with my hair wet, especially in the summer. In the winter I'm more careful for reasonable motives, I don't want to get sick. And there is another reason I like to go to bed wet haired - in the mornings my hair is dry and CURLY! So, probably for some people who are predisposed to having headaches due to various causes, going to bed with a wet hair could be a problem and could cause headaches later. I think a neurologist can give you the best professional answer here.
